I don't know if there are any threads already started but I've just officially found out I've got PCOS this morning - I've always known deep down. Please tell me it's not all bad I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
We've been TTC for 6 months - only 3 cycles. I supposedly ovulated on CD36 (now CD43) this cycle. Gynae reckons not preg cos uterus lining would've thickened. (Had a scan this morning)

Any hints/tips on treatment/TTC?
How to deal with symptoms?

How did Posh spice and Jools Oliver manage to fall preg?

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

Before i was going to the gym 3 times a week and i lost weight but then it came to a stand still and no more weight lose. I have been to see a dietican and she was honest with me (at least someone has been) she told me that she does not see me skinny as i am big boned, i have lost weight and i can wear size 12 tops comfortable it's my thighs and bum but hey we can't have it all...
I will keep my head up thank you guys hugs MWAh xxxxxxx

Hi Cam

Am glad you did not mind me asking questions.

If there are no male factor problems at all then I have no idea why IVF is being suggested as an option if PCOS is indeed the only issue. You are certainly correct in that there are other treatments that may actually be more successful.

Why exactly did the cons at Kings not want you to take clomid? (I can understand this scenario as my cons did not want me to take this drug either. In my case I was not suitable to take it, he told me "it would not help me").

I would have a word with your GP again if this person have been helpful before.

Do keep us posted.

Hi Cam75,

I understand your frustration. We have been TTC for a sibling for my DD since 2006. My Gp kept on sending me back and saying 'it will happen'. Then I got more pushy and said I need help, so she put me on Metformin, saying it could be my weight. The weight was coming off slowly but not significantly enough to make a difference, so I went back and demanded more tests and my DH's sperm to be checked. My blood works were all normal, however my DH's were not. I am totally pissed off, because why the hell did it take 2 years for his tests (which I asked for!!!). Anyway, with the farting around with my referral to the fertility unit, I decided to take matters into my own hands in July and have lost 7kg so far. I did strict Atkins for two weeks and then just kept my carbohydrates and milk consumption to a very low amount, with 4 miles on a treadmill daily and I was taking; multivitamins and 1500 of Metformin daily. DungunGirl is my inspiration.

After all of this my Cycles has completely regulated and I feel great! So hopefully, my chances of getting pregnant have improved. Although my DH's results are a bit worrying.

So the moral of the story is, don't loose heart!

Attila,
Ask questions please.
that is what my consultant has said to me?? my partner is ok has had it tested may times since we have been trying and b4 i started the clomid tOO. I think it is there way of trying to eveything without taking a closer look at things that can be cost effective.
I heard of clomid before i even got onto the ivf waiting list, but the consultant at kings did not want to give me the clomid??

All else fails i will go to my gp who will sort me out, she is the best really am lucky to have her(she is the bbc 1 dr). Anything problem i have i go to her, the last gp i had was not really that helpful.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/09/2008 14:20

HI cam75

Am glad to read that ovulation had taken place.

Why is IVF again being proposed?. Are there male factor problems as well as PCOS?. This is usually why IVF is cited for PCOSers (PCOS on its own is not an immediate indicator for IVF as other treatments can be tried).

Sorry for all the questions.

Attila

cam75 · 04/09/2008 13:43

thank you so much honey. When you see the scan i guess that is when it will hit you that you have a baby.... Ahhhh bless.

i am trying to keep busy and not really think about it. I have an appointment in oct to see my consultant so if the 2 cycles fail then i will give my body a break from the drugs and look into other treatments.
And please let me know how ure friend gets on

DungunGirl · 04/09/2008 13:16

I am just about managing to deal with it all. Nausea ALL DAY LONG is really really a bore and really tiring.

The worst thing is I also have bloating, indigestion and some constipation - sorry for TMI!

Appetite is all over the place- I want to eat as I enjoy the relief from the nausea when I eat, but then the indigestion that follows makes me feel more sick...viscious cycle!

Anyway, yeah read up about the guys in Oxford....they sound really good. I can always give you more insider info as well after my friend starts seeing them!

Keeping fingers crossed for the last 2 cycles!

cam75 · 04/09/2008 13:08

dungungirl,

thank you. how are you doing? hope all is well with you. How is baby? hope your not being too sick.
I am going to have a look now at the link.
I still have 2 more cycles to go!!!

watch this space

cam75 · 04/09/2008 13:04

attilathemarket,
i went to have a scan on monday my womb linning is thicken and i had bloods done which confirmed that ovulation had taken place. Everything that showed up she said was good and it sounded very +.

I had a failed ivf back in 2005, so if this does not work for me then they said i would have do ivf but i will have to fund it myself??? Last time i checked it was alot on money. I can hold my hands up and say that it is very stressful, all the injections i had to give myself i was bruised. The most amazing thing was i did fertilze 3 eggs!!!! the 2ww was crazy because i felt pg everything was good until test day when i had slight bleeding b4 and then on test day it was AF. I was so devasted and could not cope and i think it would send me on the edge if did it again.
I am on metformin losing weight so maybe it will happen naturally if i lose weight like the dr's keep telling me. My consultant said to me that i have a window as i am still youngish!!!!
My main problem with the pcos is weight and not ovulating so if i manage the 2 then who knows???????

DungunGirl · 04/09/2008 13:03

cam75

oh sweetheart.....don't tear yourself up. I know easier said that done but please please don't start losing hope yet!

After all, you know that you DID ovulate...so it is down to whether timing of sex was right and whether it sticks!

Maybe it is worth looking into what your next step could be if come the end of clomid still no joy. A friend of mine is seeing someone in Oxford about IVM.

She doesn't have PCOS, she has early menopause - at 30! Heartbreaking..

Read this!
www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/a-cheap-painless-alt ernative-to-ivf-397797.html

It seems that they highly recommend it for women with PCOS!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/09/2008 12:34

Hi cam75

Did either an internal ultrasound and or blood test show ovulation?. If not it sounds like the clomid is not quite doing its job (which is to make the ovaries work harder). Clomid should in any event be given with a degree of caution to PCOS patients as some can become clomid resistant over time (clomid can also encourage more LH to be produced).

Have they discussed what is next in terms of treatment in the event that clomid is unsuccessful?. I would ask them about this as a matter of course. PCO/S is not an absolute barrier to conception; hard as it is try not to be disheartened.

BTW legs in the air post sex is not necessary. Enough sperm will get to the cervix from where it won't escape.

cam75 · 04/09/2008 11:26

it's too quite here!!!!!

Ladies where are you?

I am in a state of confusion here someone help me please. I am waiting to see it i am pg or not but not testing till next friday.
Now my nurse says that women who are on clomid experince breast tenderness and bloating feeling, I tick all the boxes as this is the norm for me when af is due.
How am i suppose to tell the difference as every month i feel like this? i have ovulated had a sex marthon at the weekend so i guess i will have to wait and see.I even had sex when af left which, i have read that after a period you are fertilte. I even have my legs in the air tired dp? i am out of position now!!!!
It is hard but i am losing hope and i don't think i will be pg i have 2 more cycles to go?? my dp sperm is good maybe it's not to be??? how can i live with the fact that i maybe childless? I pray on it but maybe sometimes things are not meant to be?

DungunGirl · 29/08/2008 14:16

cupcakeandtea

It is enough to make you crazy! Isn't it!

As long as the bleeding stopped I guess all should be fine.
I was holding my breath when I started the bleed and could just see it all going wrong...but luckily it lasted 3 days each day getting less and less until it dissappeared.

Then once I had the scan and saw that all was fine, it is just onward and upward!

It is good that you have another scan in 2 weeks just to be sure and to reassure you as well!

It is a real relief to see a heartbeat, I am sure you will see it beating away when you have the next scan.

Look after yourself ok!

cupcakeandtea · 29/08/2008 13:24

Same happened to me this week DungunGirl. Had a small amount of bleeding, tore up to UCH and my blood tests are all good and I got to see the little blob on the monitor. It's too early to detect a heartbeat so going back in two weeks. I was so bloody petrified. Thought it was all over and I'm still being realistic and not getting over excited but it's hard isn't it?

cam75 · 28/08/2008 10:30

dungungirl,

i am ok getting there slowly but surely. Glad everything is ok with you. Are you resting?
I am good staying focus i am so happy that lauralou is pg it seems that prayers are being answered.
I had a scan on tuesday, waiting to ov now as i have to nice size follices. Just holding out for the little swimmers to attach!!!!
Just hoping that i can give some good news too and join the club for expect mum2b???

I have to go for anothe scan monday. I think because now i am on 100mg she wants to make everything is good with me...

DungunGirl · 28/08/2008 09:54

Hello ladies

Sorry I have been absent for a while!

OMG!!! Cupcakeandtea we are due in the same month! My EDD is 13th April!

I can't believe I will be 8 weeks on Saturday.
I had a little scare on Friday - some light bleeding and thought it was all over, but thank God it has all worked out ok.

I was seen at the Early Pregnancy unit and had a scan...got to see my little bean and a little flickering heartbeat!
Nice to actually 'see' the little one, makes it feel more real.

So for now all is well - nausea is well settled in and bloating/windy tummy is now my new best friend...urghhhh....

Cam75 - How are you holding up?

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 13:50

Oh best of luck then cam just keep at it!
I'm quite pleased I didn't get as far as Clomid as I've heard the side affects aren't much fun but it will be all worth it when you see that tiny little bundle in your arms

cam75 · 27/08/2008 13:34

fruitynnutty,

how are you? i am on 100mg clomid and the hot flushes are crazy. i went for a scan yesterday and i have to good follices so sex all the way now although i am getting a bit tired but it will be worth it in the end eh....
I have to go back to the hospital monday, hope to ovulate 2moro!!!!

cupcakeandtea · 27/08/2008 10:58

Morning

According to my doctor, I'm due on 29 April which seems so far away. It was a bit of an anti-climax actually and when I told him I was staying on the met until the 12 weeks he didn't seem that fussed!

I'm 5 weeks today and at the moment I don't feel too bad but I've got all manner of aches and pains. Keeping my fingers crossed that i'll reach the 12 week stage without too many problems. Problem is, I've had an incredibly stressful two weeks and I just hope it hasn't affected anything!

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 09:27

Morning all,
Thought I'd pop in to say hi

WOW another BFP!!! Well done cupcakeandtea congratulations to you lady! When does that make you due then? Or will you need a dating scan? I'd push for a dating scan, blame the pcos and long cycles that way you'll get to see little beany on the big screen early

Moonlit what fantastic news! That's a huge weight loss I think I need to take a leaf out of your book I'm already a stone heavier than I was at this time when pg with DS Must be the middle aged spread getting me early as I turn 30 next year

Dungun Nausea is not fun I think I'm almost out of my nausea phase, at least I hope I am anyway . Fast approaching 11 weeks now Got my 12 week nuchal scan next Thursday I can hardly contain my excitement! Forget the gym! ut your feet up woman! Are you showing already? My belly popped out at about 6/7 weeks I didn't show until I was a good 25 weeks last time Maybe it's all the carbs I'm eating. I've had to tie a hairband around the loop and button on my jeans today as they are so uncomfortable.

How's everyone else? Attila? GYo? How's the preg going with you?

to Booge, cam75 , and Tigerschick I hoe you're all well

Moonlit · 21/08/2008 21:13

Hi DungunGirl - I am so glad you are well. Have you had a scan?

I am exhausted. Looking after 4 kids is hard work . I am going on a proper holiday in October, trust me, I need it!!

I am pleased, I have finally managed to shift some weight. But I still need to loose loads. Which is quite frustrating!!!

Listen, you enjoy your pregnancy ok. I am sure you are far from looking like a whale

x

DungunGirl · 21/08/2008 09:13

moonlit

Wow can't believe you are on your way back already.
Great news about the weight loss - that is excellent!

I am feeling like a real whale this week as I have stopped going to the gym for now - want to take all precautions this time!

Nausea has set in this week too, so I am stuffing my face all day long trying to make myself feel less sick...urrghhh

DungunGirl · 21/08/2008 09:11

cupcake

Yeah, I think it is smart to be pleased but still be realistic as it is still early days.

I am only just about 7 weeks...so also very very early days still....but have already started to get nausea...uurrghhhh

Got real craving for dried mango today! weird

cupcakeandtea · 20/08/2008 14:07

That's exactly how i feel Dungun plus all that stuff in the press about being over 35 and having PCOS terrified me to the point where I was really getting quite scared. Still, it's easy days so we'll see what happens.
