Hi Everyone, still relentlessly chatting I see!

Kay - glad things were not as bad as they seem. Often low self esteem makes people say things like that from a "noble" point of view. It just seemed a thing to say, but I understand it more in context now.

Cosmos - I understand exactly how you feel, I would be completely devesated if I did not "produce" the first grandchild. I am the eldest in my family and the only married "kid" on both sides of the family, so therefore by "rights" I should have the first chil . My SIL acts as if she doesn't want kids (I think she might actually but that is another story) and is highly competitive with me. She can actually be a bit of a bitch (to DH as well) so I try to let it go over my head but know I would find it very hard if she had kids first. And.. I always thought I would have a boy first, dont know why, would not be bothered either way, but I have always just assumed it would be a boy.

kayzr · 06/02/2008 09:32

I always knew I was having a boy. All the prediction things said girl, everyone said becouse of what my bump looks like it will be a girl but he wasnt.
So a mothers intution(sp) is right

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 09:29

£30 a week?? I might have to look at it again

Cosmo, you're feeling aren't bonkers. And FWIW I'd say your 'feeling' that you will have a girl first will probably come true, though obviously don't bank on it too much.

I always knew I'd have 2 boys, from wayyyyy before we even discussed having kids.

Wish I'd have 'known' we were going to have 3 kids, I might have had a heads up on what this one is likely to be!! But having said that, it doesn't look like any of my family can carry girls, so maybe there is my answer right there!

Cosmogirl · 06/02/2008 09:27

Bookwise I have only read the Jools Oliver one - was pretty good.

Cosmogirl · 06/02/2008 09:23

Thanks girls. You are right, BB. MIL will see more of our DCs {if and when they arrive}. She will mostly see theirs on the webcam.... Now, this is going to sound even more bonkers but I am secretly hoping they have another DS because it would be lovely if we could give MIL her first grand-daughter. It might sounds weird but I have always thought I would have a girl first.....I realise this sounds crazy....feel free to say so....I was really happy when they had a son first (would not mind either sex though - just a feeling I have)

kayzr · 06/02/2008 08:55

No I didnt know that. I might have to have a look at that.

BeMyLilBaby · 06/02/2008 08:50

you can get 30 per week offa most councils for using re-useables too did ya know?

BeMyLilBaby · 06/02/2008 08:48

He he i admit they can get a bit boring but the best friends ones by vicki iovine are so funny there almost like fiction...the rest are boring tho but its my lil ineffective attempt at some control... lol

kayzr · 06/02/2008 08:48

Its kinda part the money factor after the big pay out for all the stuff, it'll be much cheaper in the long run. Also its greener, Im trying to do things as green as possible.

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 08:42

Kay, glad you and DH are OK. My boys do exactly the same, I have trouble getting them out of bed at 7.30 for school, but then at weekends they are both awake at 6.30!

I don't think I have ever bought and read a baby book all the way through, I get bored! I remember when we got DS1 home from the hospital, DH and I sat in the living room looking at each other, looking at DS in his thingymebob, and I said, so what do we do with him now? LOL We had no idea....

Kay I looked into re-usable nappies with DS2, I decided against purely for selfish reasons, I read loads of reviews and they all said they leak, and knowing how bad DS1's bum used to explode behave (), I decided against using them for DS2. Though must admit, DS2's bum is nothing like DS1's used to be!

kayzr · 06/02/2008 08:30

Yeah, I've been looking at the book you get from the mw. I feel like that even though ds will be about 2 when fingers crossed I'll be having #2 I will have forgotten everything and we're thining of using re-usable nappies this time

BeMyLilBaby · 06/02/2008 08:28

i think everythigns worth a read whilst you have time or at least thats my excuse!!

kayzr · 06/02/2008 08:21

I was looking at my Yoga for pregnancy book last night. I'm not sure how pretending I'm a tree will help pregnancy but I might give it a go this time round.

BeMyLilBaby · 06/02/2008 08:11

Morning all!

you have all been busy!

Cosmo i can completely sympathise my lovely, when i thought i would have to leave this job and start from scratch i was heartbroken, but like NJ says we are all doing what is best for us and our families, thats an important point. SIL sounds a right one, i think perhaps by all the boasting maybe she is trying to convince herself?? i would worry anyway because if she is halfway asccross the world then MIL will natch be closer to your kids so nurnur!!

On the baby front i have just started re-reading my baby books :
Rough guide to preg and birth
rough guide to babies
best friends guide to preg
best friends guide to motherhood
NCT book of sleep
Gina ford ( i am not sure ill use her ways but ill read it anyway!)
etc... im so sad ha ha!

kayzr · 06/02/2008 08:01

Yes we are. Except he gets up at half 5 for work and whenever I manage to get back to sleep ds wakes up at 7. But if I dont go back to sleep ds sleeps til half 8

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 07:58

at Kay's example, what a bitch! I thought some people were very rude when I had my MC but that is.... god awful!

Grab poorly blanket, big bar of Galaxy choc, big glass of squash, sit, eat, drink, watch telly, and don't move (except to check MN!!!

You and DH OK today?

(I might not answer for a while, I am getting them ready for school.....)

kayzr · 06/02/2008 07:53

Hello All.
I know someone similar, she has 7 kids now expecting her 8th and 9th and when her best friend had a mc she said "Oh well its not that much of a big thing, Just try again" She said it at the mother and baby group and all of us were like
Needless to say they aren't friends now.

I feel really sick today, would it be wrong to get the duvet down and stay on the sofa all day?

NatalieJane · 06/02/2008 07:16

Hiya Cosmo

Agree with Diege, sounds like she has a few problems of her own. She doesn't sound happy in herself from what you've said, at least you are. I know the waiting thing is a complete PITA, but you are doing what is best for you and your family. I wonder if she can say that hand on heart?

I have a sort of similar situation at school. One of the 'mothers' (call me judgey and bang out of order, but I use the term mother VERY losely) she has 3 kids already spends the whole time I see her smoking right outside the school gate (where everyone has to walk past to get into the school ) and when she doesn't have a fag hanging out of her mouth she is swearing, effing and blinding at her kids, I think their ages are around 6 years, 4 and 3. She is pregnant with her 4th. She and the kids are always filthy, greasy haired, muchky faces, she is about 25-ish, and only has two very blackened disgusting teeth in her mouth. She doesn't seem fit to look after a gold fish let alone 4 kids. I could go on telling stories about her, but I won't. I stand far away judging, when I probably shouldn't , whilst thinking how come she get's pregnant and get's to keep the baby, while I had to watch mine being flushed away down the toilet?

So you see how bad all of that sounds? Your feelings are completely normal compared to mine! I feel bad for even writing it down, but, I can't help the way I feel, or the way I see her treat her kids. Strangly enough her eldest is in the class below my eldest (they were in the same class last year though) and apart from the smell that comes off of him, he does seem a really nice kid, sad thing is, she doesn't seem to see it

Cosmogirl · 05/02/2008 23:15

Thanks Diege. Her and BIL have emigrated to the other side of the world so luckily I don't have to face her. She does have serious jealously/competitive 'issues.' The only thing she said to me on my wedding day was 'put your shoulders back'.....what a biatch....sorry but I can't forgive some of the nasty things she has said and done to me and DH.

Sometimes I wonder whether the envy and anger stems from the fact that I should be trying now but keep delaying and delaying when others would have followed their gut instinct. [I joined mumsnet back in June 07.....)

Diege · 05/02/2008 23:06

Oh and I bet your feel
ings of will lessen over time, and you'll be able to get soemthing positive out of it too - you're going to be an auntie again! (and then a mummy )

Diege · 05/02/2008 23:04

Hi COSMO While yes, it is irrational and all of the rest, it is perfectly normal to feel the way you do - you're only human! I don't think there's one of us who wouldn't at least feel a twinge of what you do, if not totally fall apart for a few hours at least! Feel free to rant on here, remembering that when she's at the sleepness nights stage with new baby, you no doubt will be the glowing pregnant one! (for what it's worth, sound like she has 'issues' as they say in then US from the comments she's made!)Probably best strategy (in front of her) is serene smiling, nodding etc...[through gritted teeth - sounds like she'd love a negative reaction!

Cosmogirl · 05/02/2008 22:40

Why can't I be happy for them? Why does it always have to be ?

Cosmogirl · 05/02/2008 22:34

Hello all, wowzer you've been busy today! I can't keep up...
Feeling a bit down tonight.... Feel free to call me an irrational jealous person but here goes. SIL has just announced she is pregnant with No.2. We have never got on well and in fact shortly after she started seeing BIL she told me 'we will be giving MIL her first grandchild y'know"...charming. Well they were right - they did and now no 2 is on the way. Just feel bit pissed because thought it would be our turn next. I know if prob doesn't matter but they've been together less time than us too and that also winds me up.
I really hate feeling so bitter but I don't know how to shake the feelings of resentment off.....Any thoughts?

kayzr · 05/02/2008 20:32

I am going to go on a healthy living diet thing. I might have a look at SW. I used to weigh 8st when I was about 18 and I looked awful. I'd hate to look like that again

NatalieJane · 05/02/2008 20:03

I'm back, am sooooo loving the quick bed time routine

DH just rang he is still another hour and half away, looks like I'll be having this bottle to myself tonight Though wish I'd have had my dinner with the kids I am starving!!

Oh well, will get to watch the soaps in absolute peace

Might be back in a bit, will see what else is on (also watch Mistresses, but so does DH - wonder why? - he will be pissed off if I watch it without him!
