Experiences after chemical pregnancy

I tested positive last week but unfortunately turned out to be a chemical pregnancy. I'm still getting faint positives but have had normal period bleeding since.

Just looked for other's experiences on how long you may have continued to get faint positives? And also how long after a chemical you ovulated? I was ovulating pretty predictably beforehand.

Sending love and baby dust to everyone TTC x

@Yolo23 i think my 2 chemicals I implanted late as still got my pre AF spotting on and off so know it didn’t happen before that whereas this time I had no pre AF spotting so think I implanted earlier this time round. The fertility specialists I spoke to told me that it’s not impossible to implant late and be ok but it’s very rare. The majority of the time implantation CD11 or later does end in a chemical. Not always just usually.

Hello everyone! A question from me really - I had a chemical in November. I see many here have also experienced chemicals 😪 but I’m wondering if you knew what dpo in your cycle you implanted? Implantation for me was 11dpo roughly when I had the chemical which doesn’t give many days to raise HCG levels and postpone AF … I’m just wondering if this was similar for others because research suggests that a later implantation is more common to end in a chemical or miscarriage generally (apparantly..) x

Not always true. I had implantation at 12dpo and all was okay. My first chemical I felt implantation at 6dpo with the second I didn't. I think my lining wasn't right as my first period and first chemical was so light but second chemical was really heavy.

@SillyOldBear3 thank you 😊 I’m really hoping for the best. I hope you have the same experience as me with the cycle after the 2 CPs to be the one

SillyOldBear3 · 19/01/2023 20:38

@allgoodthings84 wishing you a healthy pregnancy 💛

I had a chemical at 5 weeks in December and had another at 4 weeks this month (faint positive but then period arrived on time). Really hope for a sticky this month 🤞

allgoodthings84 · 19/01/2023 12:12

@TulipVictory nope I didn’t do anything different. I was seeing the GP about fertility and speaking to the specialists and had the initial tests as I was really worried that there was something badly wrong. If I lose this one I’ll be referred to recurrent miscarriage specialists but hopefully things are all ok in there I’ll find out Sunday at my private scan.

TulipVictory · 19/01/2023 11:11

@Emmamoo89 I breastfed for almost two years (she was two in December and stopped in November). My periods didn't return until 14 months pp. They have still been really heavy periods though so I'm not 100% sure that would be the problem for me. The only thing I am finding more recently with my periods though is that they seem more pink and mucousy when I wipe sometimes (sorry tmi) but almost like they are mixed with EWCM.

@Smophette I don't think I'll consider investigations. I'm lucky I already have children so I may just not try again it's too heartbreaking. I didn't stop completely breastfeeding my daughter until November so I'm wondering whether it's my hormones that have caused the chemical pregnancies. I've read lots online that progesterone is vital in sustaining a pregnancy in the first weeks but if it is low then a chemical is more likely to happen. I've read that prolactin (needed to produce milk) and progesterone use the same receptors in the brain and that the body prioritises the prolactin. I'm wondering if this is what happened for me.

@allgoodthings84 did you do anything different the month that you fell pregnant and it stuck?

Have you had a period yet? I'm breastfeeding. Period came back at y months pp. I've read once past 6 months prolactin won't have much affect. I've had 2 chemicals but think it was down to my lining not thick enough. As my first period and first chemical they were so light but second chemical was really heavy so think my lining should be thick enough now to hold a pregnancy.

@TTCBabyG Hiya, I had a chemical last month, starting bleeding on Dec 8th (at just less than 5 weeks). I ovulated on CD29 which is about normal for me (have longer cycles) and I have had 2 BFPs this week! AF would have been due yesterday. To be honest trying not to think too much about it until I hit the 5 week mark (which would be a week tomorrow) in case the same happens again. But I know 3 people who got pregnant the month or second month after chemical who now have their babies.

On the day of my chemical I actually went to hosp (which in hindsight I didn't need to) and they took a urine sample and it was negative that day

@Yolo23 I had a chemical in October and another in November and am now around 9 weeks pregnant. I felt the same each time it was just the tests got fainter then started bleeding with the chemicals. I don’t think I felt any different this time round at those stages.

Yolo23 · 18/01/2023 23:32

Hello everyone!

I was just wondering how you we’re all getting on? I had my first chemical in November, BFN in Dec and AF due Monday for Jan cycle.. hard to compare symptoms as I’m assuming each time you get a BFP it’ll be different but would like to hear if anyone has experienced the same if you’ve had multiple chemicals, and the other side of it - where you’ve had a chemical and then a BFP - were there key differences to your symptoms?

thank you and wish you all best of luck 🥰

Smophette · 09/01/2023 20:25

@TulipVictory So sorry three in a row must be absolutely awful. Have you though about any investigations when you are ready to continue your journey ?

@TTCBabyG Oh no that must be a kick in the teeth. I hope it all goes back to normal soon and you can get trying again!

@SillyOldBear3 There has been so much talk of bad indents/ evaps on different forums lately!! I wonder if they are just having a run of really bad batches. But 8dpo is still so early so fingers crossed it's an early BFP. Did you get anything on a test at 8dpo with your chemicsl because mine was stark white!

Over here things are ok. I am waiting for AF to finally get it's arse in gear so we can start trying. Although this month we DTD two days after I got my peak and now I keep symptom spotting although I know the chances are low!

Babydust and supportive thoughts to all of us!

TTCBabyG · 09/01/2023 18:20

Ah good luck @SillyOldBear3 , have my fingers crossed for you! I'm still testing positive two weeks since first positive 🤦🏻‍♀️ blood tests show low HCG though so just a waiting game for it to leave my body. Frustrating though as just want to start trying again.

How is everyone getting on?
I had a very, very faint line on yesterday's cheapie test at 8dpo, although I only saw it after the development time passed so it could be an evap. I feel pregnant again, but scared of another chemical ☹️ going to test again...either tonight or tomorrow night (my tests always seem stronger in the evening).

My experience of chemicals is recent and I have had them for the last three months consecutively! Going to take a break for a bit as don't know what's going on 😩

Sorry to hear this, once is hard enough so three must be really heartbreaking. Might be worth speaking to a doctor about?

allgoodthings84 · 03/01/2023 21:58

@TTCBabyG i think in my case it definitely made me more fertile or a massive coincidence as happened twice.

oh and I knew from around 5/6dpo this time and I know everyone says it’s impossible but I had the tingling boobs/nipples and creamy CM which I only get in the 2ww when I’ve been pregnant and the slight pulling down one side of my lower abdomen at that time.

Fingers crossed for this cycle and I’m very sorry you had to go through a CP. It’s really not nice to go through 😞

Thank you ❤️

Thanks for sharing. It does seem like you can be more fertile in the cycle/s following. Wishing you all the luck with this pregnancy and that it sticks for you x

@TTCBabyG I had a CP just before 5 weeks in October and then another one also at just before 5 weeks in November. I tested negative on the day I started bleeding with both though and ovulation was same time as normal after the first one and then 2 days later the second time

I’m pregnant again though (so 3 cycles in a row getting bfp after 5 cycles of nothing) and now 6+5 so past the chemical stage. Still very early days but I’ve got to stay hopeful to not go crazy. I just knew I was pregnant this time round after the previous 2 cycles.
