Is 34 too old to start TTC for baby number 2?

I feel like I've left it too late. The age, the risks, the age gap between first and second (first born is 5 and a half) But I just didn't feel ready until now. Now I'm ready but I feel like I've missed the boat 🥺

You tick a couple of risk boxes when you hit 35 but if youre healthy weight etc it wont affect too much. But higher risk isn't actually considered till over 40 now. I'm 35 and having my last.

It's not too old. I had youngest DC at 35.
Pregnancy and birth were straightforward.
I know that medically you are ( or used to be) considered to be an older mother from about 35-36 from a biological sense. Its true peak age biological to have a child is late teens early twenties but honestly not many woman are ready for that. 35 is absolutely fine and still very low risk

huuskymam · 27/11/2022 22:29

Nope. I had my last at 39.

I've just had my first at 38 and will try for a second in a year or so hopefully. 35 is when fertility starts to decline but lots of women have babies with no issues, took me 6 months and we started trying when I was 37

Congratulations 😊 What did you so while TTC? Any apps or ovulating sticks? X

You can't seriously think that is too old. For goodness sake!

I've just had my second at 41 with a 7 year age gap, we decided at 40 to try for another, so 34 to me is young as thats the age I was with my first :)

Congratulations 😊

Honestly baffled how you could think it's too old. Several of my friends have had their first at 38/39.

@behappy1736 I had my first at almost 36 and will probably be ready for baby no 2 at 39. Youve not left it too late. All the best 😊

Thanks so much, I know deep down I am not too old for a second I just read too much into the 35 and over rubbish and it makes me worry. But the more I hear the more it seems that nowadays people have children later on in life and it's all good 😊

I've just had my first and I'm 34 in a couple of months.... you must think I'm geriatric!

If everything else is right then go for it, don't let being 34 be the reason you don't do it

Congratulations and thank you. It's just a lot of my mum friends who have children the age of my child have second babies already I felt like I had missed the boat.

Rude. It's not in any way goady, I'm purely asking if it's common nowadays to have a baby or a second over 35.

I'm 30 and my mum had me at 39. My nan had my aunt at 45, 55 years ago.

What you are suggesting is not in anyway unusual or dangerous. It it pretty much a normal average age.

Wow some harsh comments 😳
I was asking because if I start trying at 34 I will be 35 if and when I possibly conceive the second. Everything you read online says 35 onwards is a risk for high risk
Pregnancy etc.

Yes, you're practically dead 🙄

I'm older than you and don't have a first.

DarkKarmaIlama · 27/11/2022 22:03

I’m 34 and I think it’s too late. No way!

Heyahun · 27/11/2022 22:03

What the fuck have I just read. I don’t even know anyone who had a baby before 35 in my whole group of friends and close family 🙈
