Is 34 too old to start TTC for baby number 2?

I feel like I've left it too late. The age, the risks, the age gap between first and second (first born is 5 and a half) But I just didn't feel ready until now. Now I'm ready but I feel like I've missed the boat 🥺

Had first at 34 and second at 36 - no major issues!!

Gronkle · 30/11/2022 22:43

I had my first at 34, second at 38, I'm 55 now. I'm really close to them, I'm certainly not too old to be their parent at all.

Well aren't you a delight?
I was asking a question, no need to be so rude.
It's not about being fertile but the risks that supposedly come with having a baby after 35 as per the nhs website.
But thanks for your input 🙄

Secondary infertility is a thing though, OP.

For me - first at 36, second at 38. Also 3 MC and borderline for secondary infertility markers. These are some of the risks!

Marshmallowmountain · 30/11/2022 22:30

Do they have Google where you live OP?

BiscuitLover3678 · 28/11/2022 21:22

Dw op. When did you have your first? It doesn’t where you live what is normalised. But no it’s not too late at all.

SueVineer · 28/11/2022 21:19

Are you joking?

jaxwax · 28/11/2022 21:18

Sorry Op but this does sound a bit silly you're 34 not 44 and it's your second baby. If you had a healthy pregnancy before the risk are actually pretty low at your age. Try your best to relax 34 is no age at all. It sounds like you maybe a little anxious. Maybe a chat with your GP will help put your mind at ease. Good luck.

Anonbaby · 28/11/2022 21:08

Another point of view, I had two easily at age 29 and 31. Been trying for a third since I was 34, for almost two years, and it’s never happened again for me. I think I’m in the minority, however

amonsteronthehill · 28/11/2022 20:40

I hadn't even had my 1st by that age, and I have 3.

Go for it!

roarfeckingroarr · 28/11/2022 20:39

Oh don't be silly. It's practically young these days! I'm due my second in January at the ripe age of 34 and 10 months!

Best of luck OP

qpmz · 28/11/2022 20:21

What planet are you living on to think 34 is too old in 2022!

behappy1736 · 28/11/2022 20:19

name985 · 27/11/2022 22:01

Yes don't bother you are fuking ancient.

Honestly what a stupid question. Women can be fertile for another 10 years after 34 ffs.

Well aren't you a delight?

I had my third and final at 36. He was my easiest pregnancy and by far easiest birth. I think as long as you look after yourself, age is just a number. We did pay more for all the scans/tests while I was pregnant with him though, for peace of mind.

FishnetsNightdressCrisis · 28/11/2022 20:03

Everyone had their own opinions on what age is too old or young or young for having a baby, for various personal reasons. But I'd have thought 34/35 is in no way controversial.

But on Mumsnet you'll get posters telling you that having a baby at 24 is far far too young but it's the most normal thing in the world at 48 🤷‍♀️

thejadefish · 28/11/2022 19:51

Oh good grief of course its not too late. I met DH late in life so had DC1 at 40 and DC2 a few months ago at 45. Whilst it took a while to get there (probably due to my age) both are healthy and when I mentioned my age to my midwife not only did she not bat an eyelid she said that 35+ was by far the majority of her workload, she only had a handful in their 20's, a few in their 30's but something like 80% of her ladies were 35+. Might just be the area I live in though!

H1Drangea · 28/11/2022 19:50

I hadn’t even had my first at 34
second at nearly 37
conceived really quickly both times

Frazzled2207 · 28/11/2022 19:48

Course not I only started ttc 1 at 34. Had him at 35, second dc at 37.

miltonj · 28/11/2022 19:46

It's personal! I wouldn't but that's just me preference of having them in my 20s and being lucky enough that it worked out. But in your situation, wanting another id go for it!

somuchtolearnabout · 28/11/2022 19:41

What?? 34 too late?? This has to be a joke right?

MaverickSnoopy · 28/11/2022 19:29

Not too late at all. I gave birth to our third age 34. It never even crossed my mind. My sister is 32 and doesn't plan to have children for a few more years yet.

Kerryw93 · 28/11/2022 19:16

Wow this thread replies are shocking!!!
@behappy1736 , not too old. It's totally your choice and only you can decide when is the right time. Good luck!

LT2 · 28/11/2022 10:45

I was am planning on a TTC a 2nd when I'm 33 or 34. Never even questioned that it would be considered late. Now you've made me feel like I possibly should be😵‍💫

BrizzleMaverick · 28/11/2022 10:33

No 34 is not too late!

I have my daughter at 37 and there is a 7 year age gap between her and my eldest.

Happy trying 😉

Isthisexpected · 28/11/2022 00:12

You must know of women having babies older than you? I don't understand threads like this. Do you live under a rock?

simbobs · 27/11/2022 23:35

I hadn't even had my 1st at 34, so definitely not too old. I think your general health is more important when considering risk.
