GPs have never looked at why periods are irregular because it's easier to prescribe a hormonal contraceptive. It's a quick fix. They don't want to spend money on investigations. This is why I go private.

Aardbeien · 06/05/2023 10:20

Hoping I can just hop in here, been TTC for 14 months or so. I have Type 1 diabetes so I imagine that's not helping despite having excellent blood sugar control most of the time (all other type 1s I know all got pregnant in 3 months though 😢)

I'm so frustrated at my GP/nhs, I asked for blood tests for hormones because my period is irregular since coming off the pill 14 months back and he said "that's not something that's offered, the pill will fix your periods" and I said I don't want the pill so 6 months later I finally get a.....phonecall appointment (in a couple weeks from now).

I don't know how they can get to the bottom of my hormone imbalance over the phone. I just want to cry so hard about all of this. Support very much appreciated.

lemons44 · 06/05/2023 10:05

Thanks @Carla2601 and @Koalie

Sadly our second embryo didn't make it so we have this one chance 💗🤞🏼

I am so grateful we have one 💗 but also so sad this round hasn't gone as expected. I have cried most of this morning. I'm still so disappointed 10 of my eggs were unusable due to being immature. I can't help but wonder if we had more mature eggs we may have had some spare embryos now. I'm staying hopeful for this one but mentally preparing for round 2 ☹️

Just preying this little one inside me makes it 🤞🏼 and trying to be positive!

@lemons44 well done you! Sounds like you’ve had a day of it. Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend and will be hoping so hard for you over the next two weeks. You so deserve for this to be simple from here!

TheBirdintheCave · 05/05/2023 17:34

@Koalie Eh not too fussed really. I've been knocked out a few times (admittedly general and not deep sedation) and that was fine so hopefully it'll just feel like a nice long sleep.

Koalie · 05/05/2023 16:29

@TheBirdintheCave hopefully lots of eggs and blasts though 🤞🏼 how you feeling about retrieval? X

Koalie · 05/05/2023 13:28

@lemons44 oh gosh, what a palaver! Did you have a mock embryo transfer before you started stims? At my mock transfer they couldn’t get to my cervix either because it was pointing down so I had to have gas and air too, as it felt like she was going to rip my vagina in half 😆 luckily, my cervix was playing ball at my real transfer. How exciting for you! The TWW begins 🥵 did you get any maccy’s fries after transfer? 🤭 fingers crossed for your second little blast 🤞🏼x

TheBirdintheCave · 05/05/2023 13:24

I had my second scan today. I've got 44 follicles now so it will definitely be a freeze all cycle 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ Egg collection is Tuesday morning with two trigger shots on Sunday night.

lemons44 · 05/05/2023 13:14

Hi @Koalie

We did lose one of our embryos as it didn't divide at all. But as of yesterday (day 3) we had two top quality little embryos. We decided to have the best one transferred into me yesterday as a day 3 embryo and we are giving the other embryo a chance to see if it survives to a blastocyst on day 5, which is Saturday (tomorrow)🤞🏼 it was a gamble as we could have frozen the second one on day 3 but decided to see if it will go to day 5, even though we may lose it.

The embryo transfer yesterday was a bit of a dramatic day 😅 in short, it very nearly didn't happen. The doctor just couldn't access my cervix as it was too high up and at a funny angle. We very nearly ended up having to
freeze both our embryos and I would have needed to push the embryo transfer back 6 weeks and have it done at a different clinic under general anaesthetic. To cut a long story short, after everyone had a break and the doctor rang some other clinics for advice, the doctor managed to do to the transfer with me sitting in an upright position. It had taken about 3 hours in total. Everybody in the room (the embryologist, doctor, three nurses and my husband) all clapped and cheered when the doctor finally said 'we've found the cervix!!'. I didn't cheer as I was high as kite on gas and air🥴

Trying not to get too hopeful.

How are you doing?

Xx

@lemons44 how are your embryos doing lovely? Xx

Koalie · 03/05/2023 11:39

@TheBirdintheCave I can understand that. Being over stimulated isn’t a failure at all though, just a bump in the road. Keep going! You got this 💪🏼

TheBirdintheCave · 03/05/2023 11:21

@Koalie I know, I'm just so disappointed as it feels like I can't even do IVF right. There's just more failure and more waiting and each month I get older and the gap between my son and a potential sibling gets bigger 😢

Koalie · 03/05/2023 11:05

@TheBirdintheCave but your body will be completely ready to accept it so you won’t end up wasting an embryo. People who are over stimulated also tend to have hormones all out of wack. You will get to go into a frozen cycle knowing you’re giving it the best shot you can. X

TheBirdintheCave · 03/05/2023 10:49

@Koalie Yes and no as it's looking like a freeze all so, even if I get any embryos, I won't even get to try one until July 😭

Koalie · 03/05/2023 09:54

@TheBirdintheCave ooooo so exciting ! Keep us posted! Xx

TheBirdintheCave · 02/05/2023 19:00

First IVF check-in scan today. I'm looking at 30 follicles currently. Next scan was meant to be Thursday but they moved it to Friday to save us a train journey on Saturday too which was nice. No idea when the egg collection will be. I guessed maybe Coronation day (CD13) but judging by what the doctor said on the phone it'll be a while yet 🤷🏻‍♀️

Koalie · 02/05/2023 18:41

@lemons44 how are you feeling? Were you given twilight sedation? That does seem like quite a lot of eggs to be immature, I think maybe they triggered too early. I started my stims on 2nd Jan, triggered on 11th with collection on 13th but I can’t remember when I did my last stims shot. Did they tell you the size of all your follicles on your last scan before trigger? Either way, 3 fertilised eggs is still good - it only takes 1 ♥️ please keep us posted. I have everything 🤞🏼 for you! Xx

lemons44 · 02/05/2023 18:30

Thanks @Tinkerbell098 it was moved from Wednesday (tomorrow) to Monday (yesterday). They got 13 eggs but 10 were immature ☹️ the three they did have all fertilised so we are just preying for those three. Just not sure what went wrong. I think they maybe collected them too early or I didn't respond very well to the trigger? I was on stims for 9 days. The embryologist even said to me today she was surprised we had so many immature ones. I need to speak to a doctor to understand more. Just so so so so hoping these three make it now.

This journey is so hard.

@lemons44 how are you getting on with stims? Hope it's not been too bad. Assuming your egg collection will be this week? Good luck hope everything goes smoothly X

SarahShorty · 26/04/2023 14:11

Hi ladies xx I hope it's okay to join. It's been about 14 months of trying for me. One cycle was IVF and that also failed. I'm currently in my fertile window of a natural cycle before the next IVF round. DH has low sperm and every conception we've had has been a chemical. TTC is really, really tough. It's a numbers game and it sucks. I hope you're all doing okay xx

Tinkerbell098 · 26/04/2023 13:57

@lemons44 aww glad to hear everything's going well so far with stims, follicles and lining. you'll be done soon, so just hang in there!

@Koalie glad they found the cause of the bleeding, I can imagine it being such a scary experience. Fingers crossed it will sort itself out. I've been on threads where similar has happened to so many ladies, but everything's turned out fine with the baby, so I'm sure your little one will hang in there nice and cosy. Sorry don't have any tips on sickness as I escaped all of it luckily. Didn't feel that lucky at the start as having no symptoms in my head meant something was wrong. Hope it eases off for you take plenty of rest when needed X

Koalie · 26/04/2023 13:38

@lemons44 haha! Well done mate! I did the same, but two smaller walks a day and every time I got up from my desk to go for a wee I would do some hip circles to get the blood flowing lol. & yes I was pretty uncomfortable by the end. I don’t remember it being crampy, just really bloated and full. I was tip toeing everywhere cause I was petrified they were all going to ovulate early and I even put a sign at the bottom of the stairs saying WALK to remind myself not to run up them 😂 x

lemons44 · 26/04/2023 13:29

Omg @Koalie was you not super uncomfortable with that many follicles?! I already feel so uncomfortable. This might be TMI but for me it almost feels crampy like you get with trapped wind 😳
Yes that is very true about the numbers. I am eating the best I have ever eaten so hoping my eggs get big and juicy.

Oh I forgot to say! I was so worried about my lining as when I had a scan as part of our fertility assessments last year it was 5.1 on day 27 (day before AF!) so should have been at its thickest! So for the past 10 days or so I am having a daily power walk for one hour to boost circulation and my lining today was 7.2 😊 i felt really proud of myself when she told me that as I sat in the chair legs akimbo grinning at my own power walk success haha

@TheBirdintheCave oh noooo that is SO annoying. I totally get your frustration. It seems silly but I guess they have to put the cut off somewhere.

@TheBirdintheCave I think I have polycystic ovaries too .. I have been told once before in the past. I also must say that I don’t think my body was ready for transfer after all the stims. My clinic would have gone ahead with the transfer if I hadn’t asked for a scan to check for OHSS just before they were due to transfer. I was in a bit of pain so I asked them to check which they did and found fluid around my ovaries. During the scan I asked what thickness my lining was and it was only 7.5mm (they like it to be at least 10mm) so I do wonder whether the transfer would have been successful if they had transferred straight away - I may have ended up wasting an embryo due to my body not being ready so even though I had to wait longer, I’m pleased that I did xx

TheBirdintheCave · 26/04/2023 12:47

@Koalie It's cos I have polycystic ovaries so they expect me to over respond to the drugs.

Turns out I can't start tonight as the clinic said my period started one hour too late yesterday for them to consider it CD1. They're calling today CD1. I am cross. Feel like I should have just lied about it now.
