Hey,

It's my second cycle if ivf, I'm on Bemfola 225 iu and it's day 4 of my cycle. Last time I was on Gonal F 150iu. Was wondering if it will produce more eggs now.

Just wanted to ask anyones dosage, the name of their ivf medication and the egg result, home many were retrieved?

@Hyppyb after reading the above, it does make you wonder if its worth doing the testing. I would definately think twice now and will be doing more research into this if its needed, by the look of it there's more negatives that positives. I personally wouldn't be doing any testing on my existing frosties I wouldn't want to risk them at this stage.
Lets hope you hear something soon, the wait for the next stage is bad enough but when your waiting feedback from the clinic its even worse. Luckily I haven't got to chase up anything right now. Providing all is OK transfer should be third week of June, I have a week off booked first week of June but will push this out to maybe the third week. My manager is aware of the situation so very accommodating.
What a nightmare potentially having to change jobs in the middle of all this, as if this isn't stressful enough for you. Are you still going to be OK proceeding with your work issues? Financial worries can be even more stressful than IVF.

@SH998 I've had a change in Patient Co ordinator, the last 3 months, first was great, 2nd was brief now on maternity leave, current one she just sent template and not heard from her since so i hence me phoning.

I've read pregnancy from tested vs untested the stats are only slightly better with tested, that they take cells from the placenta, it could be abnormal cells but the rest of the embryo is normal woukd go on to healthy baby, but also normal cells can be taken but rest are abnormal seen as normal goes on to not implant. There's evidence for and against. I don't know how I feel about potentially healthy embryos being discarded don't want to regret that. It takes 4 weeks after testing for them to get results. I don't think I will with these 2.

So doc sent info to patient co ordinator yesterday so should hear shortly, the costs then treatment consultation. Mid June my next cycle. So I think your transfer will be before mine for sure. Fingers crossed.

I'm having some stuff going on at work which could mean I change my role or have to leave so financially its something need to think about. But it's all happening November maybe.

@Hyppyb your coordinator sounds fantastic! Taking so long to reply is ridiculous, they are meant to be making your life easier not stressing you out further. That's goods news about the anti clotting treatment, at least now you feel another course of action is being taken and gives you that little bit of positivity.
Have you been given a treatment date? We shouldn't be too far apart starting now should we.
It is difficult to know what to do for the best, I will 100% do the tested on my next fresh cycle as I will be paying so will have more say in what is being done. There is a possibility that they will rectify in the womb but there's no way of knowing that. Its all still the unknown with IVF and we have absolutely no control over it. Any closer to making a decision on whether to test? I know the testing isn't cheap either so that makes the decision even harder. How long do the results take to come back?
My only fear with unfreezing, testing and then refreezing is would the second unfreezing for the transfer weaken the embryo?

Hyppyb · 21/05/2023 14:25

@SH998 I've been mulling over everything, part of me is like should I test these current embryos, it would save me money in the long run if I do. However my issue is there are experts who recommend to their patients not to do testing as there are abnormal embryos that will self correct in the womb and imagine destroying those? So I don't know, there's no wrong or right way. Just want to bury my head sometimes.

@SH998 so had a consultation today, on a Sunday with the clinic. It was OKish. He said at 39 to 40 they only expect 1 out 4 embryos to lead to a live birth. That I could have the frozen embryos unfrozen, tested, refrozen but he would only really recommend that if there were at least 4 embryos. I think I might think about doing that next collection if i have to do another one. He also said my embryos are superficially OK graded.

He then said it's fine for me to do the anti clotting treatment but it sounds like it would stop if tests came back as negative to clotting issues. The anti clotting starts post transfer, progesterone injections is also possible, they will now test progesterone levels 2 days before transfer, if low then would start injections. He said there's no real evidence the anti clotting it would help but it can't hurt.

So now waiting on treatment consultation.

Hope you're OK.

@SH998 so I sent the blood test request to my GP on Monday, didn't hear anything, today thought let me check my junk emails, the GP had responded 2 hours after I messaged them. So annoying. They will do some tests, some tests are too specialised. I also called the clinic as my patient co ordinator hasn't realised in 7 days so I called the clinic I'm having another consultation this Sunday.

OP posts:
Hyppyb · 18/05/2023 19:58

@SH998 so an FET it's 3 appointments 2 if you are lucky in that your lining is thick enough, day 10, day 14 and day 19 usually. It can vary. Yeah I always want to book a holiday as work don't know, but I always end up saying I have dentists apps because my bosses boss has said we have to give a month's notice for holidays, which isnt practical because you can't control when your period is or what days your apps will be. FETs are way more straightforward at least. I think it's just the eostrogen that gives you side affects.

I emailed my patient co ordinator around 8 am. Pretty much saying I need to know what's required for me do the FET with the aid of anti clotting treatment, if I need appointments prior, im hoping its just the treatment plan to go over the new meds, if I don't hear anything by Monday then I will call. The GP say it takes 6 working days for them to respond so will see, also don't know if they will do these tests. Saying all that the clinic may say I don't need the blood tests now that I'm choosing the anti clotting treatment.

My next period is around the 11th June. This current period I'm not in pain and the clots aren't painful. When I saw the clots I thought this looks similar to my pregnancy loss then I thought wonder If it a chemical pregnancy, sometimes they don't show on the pregnanct test, but from reading I read it could be my extra thick lining from the eostrogen and the delay. Who knows.

OP posts:
SH998 · 18/05/2023 11:50

@Hyppyb I thought it was something like that, I went for 2 scans last time. Trying to work it out so I can book a week off work to make things easier but I think its best I wait until my appointment for a more firm date to be on the safe side.
When is your next period. I would advise to push and push some more, you don't want to be missing next months cycle due to the clinic taking a while to come back to you.
Hope the clotting hasn't been too bad and painful for you.

Hyppyb · 17/05/2023 15:17

@SH998 So if your clinic is the same as mine day 2 you start eostrogen, day 10 scan to check your lining if it's not 7.5mm or over then you go back day 14, then if that's OK then you start taking the progesterone to mirror the days of your embryo, so a 5 day blast you take the progesterone for 5 days, then on the 6th day you then have your transfer. So usually a 5 day blast the transfer is day 19 to day 22. It's flexible because the eostrogen suppresses your period, the main stipulation Is the number of days before the transfer has to be 5, also that your lining is optimal as in the size.

That's great though. At least you are moving forward.

No not heard anything. This is a new patient co ordinator. Will chase during the week. Not heard from GP about blood tests. Hoping June as in next cycle I can go ahead with the FET.

My period I've had many clots wondering if it's my lining being thicker because of the delay in my period.

OP posts:
SH998 · 17/05/2023 14:39

@Hyppyb its to discuss my treatment plan and collect meds, I know what the plan is as it was also mentioned in one of the emails. My period is due that day but I cant remember how many days after the period date they look to do the transfer, its in my head 20 odd days but not sure, can you remember? I cant see any reason why they wouldn't start it next month.
Let me know what they say about the blood clotting without bloods, I asked to go on this a s a precautionary and they refused point blank. I was willing to try/take anything new to make the next transfer successful.
Have they got back to you with a firm date yet or you still waiting feedback form your coordinator?

Hyppyb · 16/05/2023 16:34

@SH998 what's the appointment for? Is it to start your FET? That's good news.

So the clinic want me to have the blood test at my GP to save on the costs. I've posted an online request to a nurse at my GP so just waiting. The list of bloods weren't just to do with clotting, full on, I'm hoping my anaemia is fine now as I didn't tell the clinic that my periods had lead to that but I've been on iron pills so hoping its OK now.

I'm also waiting on my new patient co ordinator to confirm that I can be moved back to my old clinic to have the anti clotting treatment with my next FET which I want in June. I asked that on Friday. Will chase this Friday if I don't hear anything. I did ask the question if I go ahead with the anti clotting does that mean I don't need the blood test as that was the point of it to see if i need it.

I do still believe its down to the actual embryo being abnormal why I've not conceived rather than my womb, if the blasts tested normal then that's another story. Also it shouldn't be seen as my 3 embryo transfers were all perfect but failed. My first was a 3 day so not even a blast, my second that was a success but lead to etopic, only my 3rd was a blast and a fail. But of course up for trying something new.

@RedPandaFluff thank you for your well wishes, its always goods to have feedback from someone who has experienced what we are first hand. Massive congrats on your pregnancy lets hope that me and @Hyppyb can follow suit soon :)
@Hyppyb FINALLY! An appointment for 31st May so hoping I can start the FET straight away. No doubt will be the longest 2 weeks experienced yet lol.
Absolutely shocking costs for blood work but if you do have them it will put your mind at rest that you have covered all aspects, have you had any further feedback on this or dates been given for your next transfer?

RedPandaFluff · 12/05/2023 13:01

Ahhh sorry that was for @Hyppyb!

RedPandaFluff · 12/05/2023 13:01

I think that's a great decision, @SH998. An unexpected bonus for me was the psychological boost of knowing I was trying something new, something more. Delays are so hard to deal with though - every week seems like a month in the IVF slog!

Hyppyb · 12/05/2023 09:01

@RedPandaFluff and @Sunshine2243 after a night's sleep I've decided my next FET to do the anti clotting. I've emailed my patient co ordinator see what they say. Something different might be what I need whether it works or not. So it means it won't be next cycle but the one in June as its moving back the sister clinic and will need to go over meds etc. Should be simple, because I started during covid I learnt to inject from YouTube videos so sure this will be the same.

OP posts:
Hyppyb · 11/05/2023 18:16

@SH998 8 weeks wait! Oh boy. Guess how much that blood test cost with the clinic £550! That's crazy! My new patient co ordinator listed it like i had to go do this test before i start treatment and i was like the nurse made it sound as non essential but nice to do. Will see if i can make an appointment on Friday once i get the GP letter. I'm the same, 2 collections and 3 transfers, 1 pregnancy loss, are stats are pretty similar.

Sorry I didn't mean would you consider testing now if you had to do a 3rd collection? It's actually not that expensive. In America I've seen it can be like 6k. In the UK its 1k. I don't want to do it in case they say some or all are abnormal and when they would correct themselves later. Tested embryos can fail too. I've seen that a lot.

It is hard to fully believe the next FET will be successful after failed attempts. I do think it's pot luck like the right healthy embryo out of the rest. I think I'm going to take the baby asprin next cycle. I did it a little last time but not post transfer. This time will continue. There is some evidence it helps with clotting and prevents some miscarriages. Fingers crossed for us.

@RedPandaFluff thank you for your kind words. Me and @SH998 we do have a very good natter on here, through the trials and tribulations of our journey and as you say it's a lot but we are hoping it will happen for us. Hoping to help other women who stumble on here. 😀 So exactly what you said is what they are offering, well not my clinic but the sister clinic of steroids and blood thinners. Itd mean a delay. I'm now having second thoughts after you've shared your story. 🤔 I'm thinking I will go ahead as normal and my last attempt try the clotting meds. Thank you so much. So happy it worked for you.

@SH998 wishing you lots of luck - you've really been through the mill too. It's very hard to keep going but then again you just don't know - the next cycle could be when it finally happens for you Flowers

RedPandaFluff · 11/05/2023 15:21

Hi @Hyppyb - I hope you don't mind my chipping in at this point, I've been following this thread and I really admire how strong and logical you are, after the failed cycles.

I had three frozen embryo transfers (frozen as they were donor eggs - I don't produce any) and they all failed, with one chemical pregnancy among the three. I then had a fourth FET where I asked them (following my own research) to put me on progesterone, blood thinning injections (Inhixa), steroids (prednisone) and low-dose aspirin, and they agreed on the basis that there was no clear evidence these would work, but they wouldn't do any harm. It worked. DD is 3. We had an embryo left and did the same meds regime - I'm now 25 weeks pregnant with DD2. No history or hint of any blood clotting disorders or anything like that, and of course it could absolutely be coincidence and regression to the mean/law of averages, but in my heart I'm convinced that it's the meds that made the difference. I wondered if maybe asking for similar meds in your next cycle might be worth a try? They're not expensive medications so there's nothing to lose, and you never know, there might be a minor autoimmune issue that the steroids help with, or the blood-thinners might make it easier to establish blood flow etc.

SH998 · 11/05/2023 15:13

@Hyppyb those are the additional blood tests I had to wait 8 weeks for! I hope yours are quicker than me. In my case, I really hoped something would be found, no such luck. I requested blood thinners as a back up but my clinic flatly refused this option if they weren't required due to possible additional bleeding. If your sure noting is up then have the bloods but still continue with the transfer of your CB. I've read that C's are OK too, you might be lucky :)
I think testing is out for us this round as I've read the treating needs to be done on a fresh round, also I'm not sure that comes under the NHS. This is something I will look into should I need private IVF.
Your at the same stage as me, you just want to proceed asap, I'm so afraid that these next 3 frozen embryos could take me another 8/9 months to get through. Its taken me a year this month to get here - 2 collections and 3 transfers. I really cant afford to wait that for another fresh collection. I feel absolutely terrible talking about them as if they have already failed but I've had so much disappointment and upset that its difficult to be positive. Obviously I would give anything for them to succeed so I have everything crossed for us both x

Hyppyb · 11/05/2023 15:03

@SH998 she did say she's just looking at their policy rather than actually looking at my case.

OP posts:
Hyppyb · 11/05/2023 15:02

@SH998 I said 12 weeks, it was 12 weeks bleeding but I was pregnant in total for 19 weeks and had to have the injection to aid the loss. If there was problems with the baby sticking that would never had happened I would have been pregnant for a lot less time and without medical intervention. I do feel like sometimes you have to remind docs of common sense and the basics.

OP posts:
Hyppyb · 11/05/2023 14:56

@SH998 so just spoke to the nurse specialist for the follow up, she said because I've had 3 failed FETS they would recommend I see a doc for blood test to see about clotting issues. I was like the 1st was just a 3 day embryo not a blast chances werent great, the 2nd was etopic that held on to my body for 12 whole weeks clearly no clotting issues there, 3rd yes it's a blast but it's untested we have no idea if it's even normal. So I'm waiting on the gp letter to have the blood test, the other option which I won't do yet maybe round after this if it fails is injections and blood thiners. I still feel like they're trying to blame it in something it's not. I get it's good to see other options. But I truly believe its down to how strong the embryo is.

So yes it's agreed I do another FET once my period starts. She said 4CB is an OK embryo not what I've read. She recommended just one embryo transfer and I agree as i don't want to risk paying for raising triplets if it splits. I feel fine. I think I said before I'm quite a logical non emotional person. There's emotions but they're managed by my brain. 😆 plus I knew it'd be negative days ago!

Humans as species I think I said before our fertility is not the best. Put 100 women under 35 in a room, all women attempt to get pregnant once, only 30 will get pregnant, 70 won't. In a year if the women continue trying 8 women will be left not pregnant. When we ovulate the dominant egg may be normal or abnormal when we are young or old. It's just as you get older more are abnormal. The batch per cycle there will a mix. More will be abnormal if older. Would you think of genetic testing? It's a risk tho.

Fingers cross you can start soon. Hopefully the nhs hurries up. I feel a little crazy jumping into another cycle! But why not you know.
