Hey,

It's my second cycle if ivf, I'm on Bemfola 225 iu and it's day 4 of my cycle. Last time I was on Gonal F 150iu. Was wondering if it will produce more eggs now.

Just wanted to ask anyones dosage, the name of their ivf medication and the egg result, home many were retrieved?

Hello just started looking into IVF and wondered if, in England, they would put more than one egg back in, as I saw on a tv programme that they only put one egg back in a cycle. Are there pros/cons to having say 2 put in, as hopefully double chances?

Guidelines ant my clinic are to give you the option of putting more than on embryo in if you’re older, but I can’t remember the age exactly, and it’s your very last cycle.

@Hyppyb thanks you, we were really pleased with the outcome, I so wasn't expected the results we got. From my experience less follicles shows better quality, however, everyone is different :)

We went in with 8 follicles showing on the scan, all 8 were collected , all 8 fertilised and all 8 made it to day 3. We managed to get 5 to blastocyst which i was gobsmacked by.

As for grades for some reason my clinic never ever gives us the grades when after I question them, all I know is that the previous 2 transferred were both B's, one was hatching and one slightly behind. This time they said the 3 to be frozen were on par with the previous 2. The 2 we implanted were really good quality (that's all I got from them).

I done just that! Stupidly tested tested day 4 (yesterday) which was negative and I broke my heart all night, I've now convinced myself I'm out of the game this time. I've had no symptoms apart from a few little niggles the day after the transfer. Absolutely nothing since then. I really cant remember what symptoms I had from my last positive apart from I had very little symptoms.
Did you have early symptoms? If so what days? Pregnancy tests positive days etc?

Wow, still bleeding 12 weeks later, your poor body has really gone through the mill hasn't it. How are you feeling emotionally, it must be so hard to move forward still dealing with your loss. I really hope you move on with this and can look forward to your next transfer - I'm not sure I used the correct words there, 'look forward', I'm not sure anyone looks forward to the next transfer as the fear and stress sets in pretty much as soon as the transfer is complete.

Hyppyb · 28/02/2023 11:59

@SH998 wow you did have really good results! That's amazing news! See I told you!

What was your count? How many retrieved? Fertilised? Made day 5 or 6? What were your grades?

Two week wait is not fun...some people start testing 4 days post 5 day transfer. If you're pregnant with twins more hcg! Mine was negative 4 days post but the line of the 4 days test got darker a couple days later. I got my positive 6 days post but I knew it was a true positive because it was getting darker. A fresh you have to be careful because of the trigger shot hcg in your urine.

I'm OK. Today is 12 weeks bleeding. Its very light so soon over. Then will wait until my first period, then will call to have a scan, then nurse consultation, then second period, that cycle have my transfer.

@Hyppyb morning, how are you feeling? I'm hoping your all healed and healthy :)
We did have collection and transfer was on Saturday. We had really good results from the collection and decided to place 2 back in with 3 left to freeze. I'm now in the TTW and panicking and googling everything which as you would know will not be helping my frame of mind lol.

Hyppyb · 27/02/2023 22:12

@SH998 how did you get on? Did you have the egg collection and transfer?

OP posts:
Hyppyb · 15/02/2023 22:25

@SH998 so 8 were collected and classed as mature eggs, 6 fertilised, usually its 90 to 80%, day 3 I had 5 that were grade 1 8 cell embryos and 1 grade 2, day 5 I had 3 blastocyst and day 6 1 blastocyst so 2 were deemed not good.

@SH998 Hey, day 9, wow youre almost there. Reading your follicle sizes and the day of your cycle I feel like you have ok results. I don't understand why your clinic would want to cancel. Is that there policy? There are still days for your eggs to mature. Its 2mm on average a day they can grow even bigger. My scans started earlier, day 5, day 7 and day 10. I will try to upload the sizes, ignore the top of the page that says the cycle day as in the app i put my period was the day I started bleeding oppose to when I was in full flow and full flow is day 1 according to the clinic.

I guess you can compare my day 10 to your day 9 but decrease it by 2mm according to how big they grow. Ideally they want 18mm to 23mm at the last scan but as you can see my last scan day 10 I only had 4 follicles that fell into that size range and at egg collection they got 8 mature ones. My prior cycle they got 2 mature follicles at 14mm of the last scan. So it is possible. You definitely have 5 potential mature eggs there. Again I don't understand why the clinic would cancel it.

As you know it only takes one egg. Try to be positive.... go with your gut. If you don't want to cancel I read they have to listen to you.

I'm OK. Had my last hcg test was 16, got discharged. So I should ovulate soon. I'm spotting now. I realised depending on how my period falls I could try to conceive next month, the end of March as my injection was in December so that was a nice realisation. How soon.

@Hyppyb how are you feeling, hoping all is back to normal and you can start to look forward to your next cycle. I had my first scan today, I don't think it went particularly well.
Today is day 9 of my cycle, day 8 of meds and also my first scan day. Results were 8 follicles measuring between 10 and 18, with a further 2 showing under 10. Measurements were:
2 at 18
1 at 15
1 at 13
1 at 12
1 at 11
2 at 10
A further 2 under 10.
At this stage on my last cycle I was showing approx. 14 follicles but I'm pretty sure they weren't as mature as they are now at this stage. I have another scan on Friday but I have that feeling the cycle will be cancelled (the nurse was lovely but didn't seem that optimistic although she didn't say as much). She did say my last count was better and that there is still time for the smaller ones to catch up.
I expected my body to react pretty much the same as last time but it hasn't so now I'm frantically googling all sorts (this is something I promised myself I wouldn't do this time around) :(
Do you mind me asking what your day 8 scan count and size were? Did the count remain the same on collection day, if so, how many were retrieved, fertilised, made it to blastocyst etc? I've been so clam until now but after this mornings scan I'm back to being a mental woman frantically googling everything I can x

Hyppyb · 10/02/2023 07:48

@SH998 My first cycle was Gonal F 150iu. It wasn't a good experience. They could only get half because of not being able to access my left ovary due to a fibroid and the ones they got weren't good. Bemfola was better for me, the eggs were bigger quicker and more grew. Hope thats your experience.

I found my second time injections so easy. 21st, that's soon, hope it goes well. Sleeping is definitely a good thing. Will be interesting to hear how transferring the two embryos go. If you have top graded embryos if you end up with twins, could happen with a mismatch too. Two over 3Bb you may be having twins for Xmas. If one is top graded and one includes a CB, BC or CC then the chances are a lot lower but not impossible. Once you get that positive result its like a 70% chance of a healthy pregnancy, its hard when your in that 30% or 2% with etopic pregnancies.

Yep still bleeding, coming up 9 weeks, 7 weeks from methotrexate injection. Still low key pain in my hip, I did have a bout of pain in the week but now if I take painkillers the pain goes. Before the pain was really bad heard people say it's pretty much the contractions of childbirth. Last week my hcg was 25, today I'm going to test but if it's not under 10 I won't be going back as I really want to move on. Plus I can take a pregnancy test at home if I'm still bleeding in a week.

I can't wait to try again. Yes the fears are still there but thats human. The medicated frozen transfer in August really messed with my hormones, the eostrogen, but I've had worst. Hoping I start treatment with my second period post hcg at 0. My first period I'm guessing will be early March.

I'm newly 40, my embryos are 39, so really hoping my baby is one of them.

@Hyppyb I was on Gonal F 175iu to begin with which didn't sustain the follicles as they should, once the meds were changed it worked a charm :)
Injections started last night so providing all goes to plan collection should be on 21st February. I feel a lot calmer this time around. I know what to expect this time so that's something less to wonder, also home life is much better and work is less stressful. I am excited but also trying not to think about it so much, I'm actually sleeping at night, whereas the last time I was constantly stressing and only managing about 3/4 hours sleep a night, the lack of sleep really played havoc with my body. I was fine on the injections last time, no bloating or side effects so hopefully ill be lucky again. The injections don't even hurt this time around lol :)
We have made the decision that 2 will go back this time if we have them, as I didn't react well to the frozen transfer I cant help feeling I wasted the last one so I'm not doing that again.
I cant believe your still bleeding and in some pain, it shows how much your poor body has been put through. Take a few weeks out to relax and get your body healthy again, although I know how difficult it is just waiting for the time to pass until you can try again x

Hyppyb · 03/02/2023 19:10

@SH998 That's great. That's exactly the medication and dosage I had and got 8 mature eggs collected. Bemfola is a cheaper drug but worked a lot better than the more expensive drug I was on. Are you excited? Hope you get some good results. Youre having a fresh transfer? Did you have any bloating after your egg collection last time?

I had a watch on YouTube and many videos said transferring one embryo rather than two embryo you're more successful. So it's definitely something you should weigh up.

My HCG is 25. It needs to be 10 to be discharged from the hospital. I'm still bleeding and still having bouts of pain. I won't contact the ivf clinic until I start my period and that I estimate will be early March so got a long time until then. Need to have a follow up scan and then nurse consultation. Still looks on track to have a frozen transfer end of March.

OP posts:
SH998 · 03/02/2023 13:32

@Hyppyb how are you feeling? Are your levels finally at zero and your starting to feel normal again?
Ill be having 225 Bemfola same as last time. They did start me on 175 but cancelled first collection at scan day 12 as the follicles weren’t where they should be. The 225 worked well, I’m hoping it will work just as well this time around. Periods due to start Monday so providing it does I’ll be starting meds on Tuesday.
Im happy with twins, that’s always been my dream, my partner not so much lol 😂
Have you been given any further feedback as to your next appointment etc? X

Hyppyb · 26/01/2023 19:55

@SH998 happy to hear your appointment went well. Do you know what fertility drug and dosage you will be on? My two cycles I had different fertility drugs and dosage and the cheaper meds with a higher dose I got a better result.

Are you OK risking twins with two embryos? I've thought the same thing. So my next transfer will only be one embryo because its a good quality embro but the two others are poor quality and have a lower chance of pregnancy so I was thinking of transferring both.

Today every time I stood up I've had heavy bleeding and with clots. I had clots once at 7 weeks and now 6 weeks later. Hoping it means it's soon over. Etopic pregnancies for anyone are hard going because you know your life was at risk. Work don't know anything about mr trying to conceive or the etopic pregnancy. I work from home most the week and I had the methotrexate injection over xmas so the bad side effects I was at home.

Most sites say don't try again until 2 periods, Infertility TV on YouTube says try straight away, women who had a miscarriage in test trials more got pregnant, had live births and less miscarriages than those who waited over 3 months. So I should be trying 2 months from hcg at 0.

I hope you are more successful this time round. Still can't get over how badly my first round went with just one embryo not even a day 5. Got my fingers crossed for you

OP posts:
SH998 · 25/01/2023 18:24

@Hyppyb oh I really hope the pain and bleeding subsides soon, I can’t imagine how it must be, it was bad enough bleeding for 2.5 weeks so you must be completely and utterly fed up by now. On the plus side there is no long term damage caused, I suppose it could have been a lot worse (trying to make you feel better) 😘.
Such a drag having to wait until the end of March, if your anything like me you just want to continue immediately. Has your work been supportive throughout it all?
Wow, that’s amazing, 4 embryos from 1 cycle, very impressive. I managed 2 which isn’t too bad after I read and stressed over the statistics.
My appointment went well, planned start date 7th Feb, providing my period arrives on time with an estimated collection date of 20th Feb. We have already decided if there’s 2 available we will be putting both in. As I didn’t agree with the frozen transfer I can’t help feeling I wasted a perfectly good embryo that I wish was transferred with my first pregnancy. Time will tell, I just hope I’m more successful this time around x

Hyppyb · 22/01/2023 14:53

@SH998 Thanks...they say if you've experienced one etopic pregnancy your chances of experiencing another is higher by 10% compared to a person who hasn't. The hospital thinks it's to do with my IVF as it increases your chances of etopic by like 6%. As you say it's still all very unlucky as the chances are in your favour of having a healthy pregnancy.

My last cycle was very successful, they got 3 x5 day embryos and 1 x 6 day embryo. So I have frozen embryos. My next attempt will be a frozen transfer. I have to wait until end of March because the methotrexate injection you are not allowed to conceive for 3 months. I read frozen decreases the risk of etopic. I'm still having on / off pain with the bleeding 6 weeks later which I've been told is normal.

I am so the same! Googling, youtubing, forums. It's hard not to. I also think it helps with anxiety stress not having it bottled up. I've had two egg collections and I would say the hardest part is was waiting to find out if the embryos make it to day 5. My first cycle I had only one embryo, it was only a day 3 and they transfered it failed. My last transfer it was a 4Bb, got pregnant, my next will be 3Bb so same chances like 50/50. The 2 others are lesser graded quality.

Yeah fingers cross it happens for both of us.

OP posts:
SH998 · 22/01/2023 13:43

@Hyppyb hopefully you will be fine next time, you’d have to be very unlucky to suffer 2 ectopics in a row. Unfortunately you will have that worry, it’s difficult to enjoy any pregnancy when you’ve struggled so much to get it.
I say I’m chilled now but I know as soon as those injections start I’ll be a mad woman again, constantly Googling and overthinking everything. On the plus side I now know the process so hoping that will take a lot of the anxiety away. My period started about 2.5 weeks after I stopped bleeding, it was a normal period as I was expecting the worst.
If you start Feb time we should be very close to each other, did you say you have to start again or do you have a frozen? Let’s hope the next round for both of us will be the final one with a very happy ending x

Hyppyb · 20/01/2023 14:41

@SH998 Sounds like everything will be pretty straightforward for you. The second time you know what to expect and makes it so much easier for sure. Numbing cream was a Godsend for me. Yeah I didn't have side effects from injections, I found a fresh transfer so easy, but prior I had a egg collection but couldn't have a transfer days later because they couldnt access one ovary, so the enlarged eggs left behind and the created bloating and that was uncomfortable. But ivf isn't as scary as I thought.

Please do stay chilled. I was so chilled last time and I got pregnant.

My hcg is 118, so slowly decreasing now. Nurse says early Feb she thinks I will get to 0. Then period should start 3 weeks after I was confused when. I've read women say straight their period started straight away. Still bleeding over 6 weeks.

I'm hoping the etopic pregnancy doesn't cause too much of a cloud over me. It was very scary. The hospital wanted to admit me over Xmas incase I collapsed and bled out alone. I declined. So next pregnancy it's a worry. Its not just a fear of losing a baby but losing your life. Hopefully doesn't happen again. I read frozen transfer is less likely decreases risk of etopic pregnancy and methotrexate injection does too. Will think like that.

SH998 · 20/01/2023 11:50

@Hyppyb i have my appointment Tuesday to discuss my treatment plan although the consultant on my call this week told me what we would be doing so I’m just picking up the meds really. I’ll be on the same meds as last time so hopefully the results will be just as good. I can’t believe how quickly it’s moved this time around.
This time around I feel a lot more chilled than previously, I’m sure that will change soon mind.
The injections and meds dont bother me, I’ve had no crazy side affects by them.
How are you feeling with it all? I couldn’t even imagine bleeding for so long, you must be so drained by it all. It’s so difficult to look ahead while your still recovering from previous attempts/issues. Hopefully your plan can start again in Feb, it will be here before you know it. X

Hyppyb · 15/01/2023 10:25

@SH998 that's good you have a video consultation Tuesday. Get things moving. How are you feeling about your next ivf round? Are you pretty chilled about injections?

I'm still bleeding 5 weeks later and having side pain on / off. I feel like if the hospital did their job properly, didn't send me away for weeks, monitored my hcg, they would have been able to pick up the etopic pregnancy earlier and I would have got the methotrexate sooner. Then the miscarriage would have ended sooner. Had weekly blood test Friday, hcg was 221, so I am getting there needs to be 0. Then I think I should stop bleeding, then start period bleeding soon after. So no, miscarriage not complete, my first pain was like 7 weeks ago.

I can't wait to try again. It will be easier on my body just a FET. I emailed my clinic they gave me the steps to proceed, some I will do before the 3 months. Like a baseline scan because my last scan will be 3 months old, nurse consultation over the phone and then start FET. Will book scan maybe mid Feb once I have my first period.

OP posts:
SH998 · 15/01/2023 09:00

@Hyppyb sorry about the delay in replying, how are you feeling now? Are things more settled and the miscarriage complete? Hope you didn’t suffer too much:(
March might seem a long wait but will be here before you know it, at least by then your body would have had time to recover. Video call on Tuesday and I assume they will then book me for a consultation to discuss/pick up meds. All a waiting game at the moment x

Hyppyb · 05/01/2023 20:58

@SH998 Forgot to say that the nhs kept saying that ivf patients are at a higher risk of etopic pregnancy. I've looked into it and there's no definite answer why. One place said its the embryo being transfered to forcefully, another said if its a 3 day (mine wasnt), that it's all the fertility drugs so a fresh transfer its more likely.

OP posts:
Hyppyb · 04/01/2023 22:54

@SH998 I was advised that as I've had one etopic pregnancy, going forward the nhs would monitor me ASAP, so the moment I find out I'm pregnant again I'm to call the hospital and book an appointment at 5 weeks. I doubt a scan that early would show anything but the hcg testing is what will be relied on.

@SH998 Hey, hope you had a merry Xmas too! 2023...let's hope this is the year we get pregnant🤰🏼🤰🏾🤰🏿🤰, stay pregnant and deliver healthy babies.

So my hcg was 4600 at the time of the methotrexate injection, day 4 it was 4000 I think then day 7 it was 3000. Was so relieved...the methotrexate is a form of chemo, a toxin, it really affected my body, I was very dehydrated, exhausted, no appetite, bloating, not myself at all. This took over my Xmas period. Hard. So didn't want another injection and the decrease in my hcg says I shouldn't.

Initially I feel I was affected only physically by losing the baby but as time has gone on I now have a sad ache to be pregnant again. Etopic pregnancy is hard because it takes so long on your body to go back to normal. I'm nearly what you'd say is "10 weeks pregnant" I'm still miscarrying. Still bleeding. Then I guess 4 to 6 weeks until period. I really don't want this again. A miscarriage would have been better, not nice still.

Back at hospital on Friday for hcg test but it will be 2 months and 2 week to go. So it's going quicker. Yeah I said to the hospital at 5 weeks I think I am having an etopic pregnancy and I was told your miscarrying come back in a few weeks. How dangerous was that?

How are you? Any news on what's next? When you will speak to clinic? My plan is early March to have follow up, get meds, so by 23rd onwards I can have FET. Can't wait.
