Preparing to TTC in 2023

Hi,

I'm part of a lovely thread which was started in 2021 for those planning to start TTC in 2022 and it was such a supportive group! we've now seen lots of positives and given each other a lot of support and tips through ups and downs.

I'm now 'pausing' TTC until after my wedding in 2023 and thought it'd be nice to start up a similar thread to see if there is anyone else now prepping and getting excited for next year!

On the last thread everyone introduced themself by saying their age, what they're trying for and when they plan on starting - I'll then keep a list up to date and post so everyone can easily see others who are at the same stage as them!

I'll go first:

Age: 27
TTC no: 1
Starting: Sep 23

Between now and then I'm going to be taking folic acid, try and loose some lbs to get closer to a healthy BMI, save some money in a baby pot and enjoy some 'baby free' activities (i.e., wine, gin, sushi and surfing!). I have endometriosis and PCOS so going to try and get my periods more regular and pain management via diet.

@Hopingforno2in2023 how old were you TTC your first DS?

I think I’m younger than most on here!

happyfeet5 · 30/12/2022 17:11

@Mushroo that is so annoying! Hope you’re enjoying family time nonetheless! One month isn’t a big deal I guess in the grand scheme of things

@Hopingforno2in2023 very true! Thank you. DP already does most of the housework to be fair, I do much less but then every so often I do a huge blitz of the place ha ha. I feel very lucky as read lots of threads on here where men think it’s not their job to clean! We spread it evenly between us on the whole.

@LeopardLover that’s so lovely and reassuring! I bet it’s really exciting for you thinking of a sibling for him, and you’ve all the benefit of your experience this time round so you somewhat know what to expect! How old is your DS now? I’m sure you’ve mentioned somewhere but it gets lost within all the hundreds of comments.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 30/12/2022 17:08

Ha same leopard! When we TTC DS I was young, slim and so fit. Now I am heading for middle age and overweight. Nothing I can do about my age but I will be a healthy weight by March!

LeopardLover · 30/12/2022 16:58

@Hopingforno2in2023 These are the two we used last time - excellent! We were at peak health and fitness when we conceived baby #1 so we really need to make the effort for #2 as well 🤣

@happyfeet5 I feel like that's totally natural. It's a big deal! I'll say it hasn't affected our relationship negatively, it's just brought us together even more - we're a proper team! But we always agreed to do everything 50/50. We've stayed sharing a bed, he helped in the night despite working etc. Doesn't work for everyone but did for us. Honestly it's the most incredible experience - grueling for the first 6 months and hard after that too, but so worthwhile. I had a traumatic birth (still recovering physically to be honest) and my son has never really slept (we still co-sleep) but I'm so in love. I'm definitely not the same person, it humbles you! I think my body didn't feel like my own until my son stopped drinking breastmilk! Xx

leopard I am taking folic acid currently which is the essential one. Will be moving onto pregnacare conception soon and getting DH onto the mens version as we need his sperm nice and strong as they are at a disadvantage due to the vasectomy.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 30/12/2022 13:36

Being a parent changes your life happy but for me it has been such a positive change. The first year was crazy hard but since then I have loved it so much and feel that these are the best years of my life.

I found that things were difficult with DH in the first year as we were both so tired but our relationship is now stronger. I love him so much more for seeing what an amazing dad he is. Make sure any imbalance in housework etc is sorted before you have baby though.

kiwifruit1234 · 30/12/2022 12:16

Hi all - I'm coming of bc pills just now, giving myself at least 3 months to prepare for TTC this year :-) looking forward to doing some research and preparation!

Age: 34
TTC no: 1
Starting: April 2023

Babydustthisyear · 30/12/2022 11:57

@happyfeet5 i totally get what you mean, it’s our first month trying and I don’t ovulate until next week but now we have decided I still have times when I’m like shall we wait until later in the year, but then I’m also so impatient and want to be pregnant now….I guess it’s a mix of emotions and it really is a journey xx

Babydustthisyear · 30/12/2022 11:53

@LeopardLover I have been taking just folic acid for past 2months, I’m looking at other multi vitamins but there are so many, very exciting xx

happyfeet5 · 30/12/2022 10:56

@TrudyProud that sounds like a good idea! Strength to you for having the motivation during Twixmas!

happyfeet5 · 30/12/2022 10:55

I have always yearned to be a mummy but I still have waves of feeling really indecisive! Does anyone else? I think it’s the unknowns that niggle me, such as how it might change our relationship. I’ve heard so many couples struggle and resent each other and I saw a very unhelpful (but possibly true) post earlier saying the woman is not feeling her usual self for at least 2 years post birth!

TrudyProud · 30/12/2022 10:37

@PeopleAreToads you never know. August 2021 I felt the same . Cut to 2 weeks later I had my BFP and now my 8.5month old DD is having a nap.

Baby dust in 2023 to us all!

I'm off to the gym now to ready my body for an April/May conception 🤞🏾

LeopardLover · 30/12/2022 10:19

@PeopleAreToads Eeeek, so exciting!! It really flies by doesn't it? I remember being really nervous on month 1 just in case it happened straight away!

@Babydustthisyear @Notyetamother @TheUndoing here's to a positive 2023!

What vitamins are you all planning to take? I'm going to take Pregnacare, but last time remember reading about separate magnesium tablets so wondered if anyone is taking anything different!

Firsttimetrying2022 · 30/12/2022 10:16

Thank you! Just had a static face on clear blue advance OPKs so hopefully this will be our month

Hopingforno2in2023 · 30/12/2022 08:57

I ordered the AMH test yesterday and my BBT thermometer arrives today, feeling very real now!

PeopleAreToads · 30/12/2022 08:55

I'm due to ovulate this week for cycle 1 after 6 months of tracking and preparing, suddenly all feels very real! But need to try and avoid getting my hopes up. I can't help but be looking at dates for how many weeks I'll be at different things we have planned if it happens this cycle, even though I know its fairly unlikely

Hopefulhoney6 · 30/12/2022 08:52

@Firsttimetrying2022 that is hard…. I find it’s always hard and a shock when your loved ones / close friends get pregnant with a click of the fingers (my sister was the same, pregnant first go, whereas we tried for 6 cycles and then had a miscarriage so are now trying again), but I think people talk less about the struggles and time to conceive and I hope you get there in 2023!

Hopingforno2in2023 · 30/12/2022 08:28

That is really hard first. Fingers crossed you are closely behind them ❤

Firsttimetrying2022 · 30/12/2022 08:19

Hopingforno2in2023 · 29/12/2022 18:57

Hugs First but try and remember that the average is 4-6 months and up to a year is completely normal Flowers

Thanks @Hopingforno2in2023! Trying to stay positive but as we get closer to the 6 months mark it's getting a bit harder.

We're also quite close to my sister in law and see her almost every week so it's just going to be hard seeing her go through pregnancy this closely

Babydustthisyear · 30/12/2022 07:23

Hi all, Just found this thread and would love to join, I am 32 and hoping ttc in January, first time trying x

Notyetamother · 30/12/2022 03:36

I'll join!! What an exciting and also at times tormenting thing we're all doing! So interesting to read everyone's stories!

I'm 29, first time TTC, had coil out in November so this is the first full month of trying but last month I was still super hopeful even though it was super unlikely! Hard not to want it so badly!

So glad theres a place we can all share and feel heard without sounding like a broken record IRL.

Wishing everyone lots of luck and love xx

SweetLion · 29/12/2022 23:42

I would really advise anyone planning to try later in the year who is on hormonal contraception to come off sooner rather than later. It takes women's bodies quite a while to settle down - they say 3 months but it's often quite a bit longer.

123ROLO · 29/12/2022 23:31

Hi @TheUndoing

Very similar position to me! Getting married October then planning to start trying straight away.

Going to get coil removed August(ish) time, but going to work on getting to optimum health between now and Oct and start taking supplements in the next couple of months.

Even though its a while off, I don't know about you but it feels like an exciting stage to even just start the prep!

I'm just gonna try really hard to not wish my year away. Going to fill it with lots of exciting things

TheUndoing · 29/12/2022 21:30

Very late to the party but I’m hoping to start TTC #1 after my wedding in August. I’m 30 (will be 31 by the wedding) and keen to make sure I have my ducks in a row re coming off contraception (currently on the pill - microgynon) and folic acid etc.

LeopardLover · 29/12/2022 21:01

@Foreverhope82 When I got my BFP with my son my temp went up at DPO7 too and it's positive you definitely ovulated. All good signs so far! 🙏
