Preparing to TTC in 2023

Hi,

I'm part of a lovely thread which was started in 2021 for those planning to start TTC in 2022 and it was such a supportive group! we've now seen lots of positives and given each other a lot of support and tips through ups and downs.

I'm now 'pausing' TTC until after my wedding in 2023 and thought it'd be nice to start up a similar thread to see if there is anyone else now prepping and getting excited for next year!

On the last thread everyone introduced themself by saying their age, what they're trying for and when they plan on starting - I'll then keep a list up to date and post so everyone can easily see others who are at the same stage as them!

I'll go first:

Age: 27
TTC no: 1
Starting: Sep 23

Between now and then I'm going to be taking folic acid, try and loose some lbs to get closer to a healthy BMI, save some money in a baby pot and enjoy some 'baby free' activities (i.e., wine, gin, sushi and surfing!). I have endometriosis and PCOS so going to try and get my periods more regular and pain management via diet.

@Betsy21 quick response as I am rushing out…. But I had my period on the 1st too and I ovulate on day 18 (regular 28 day cycles no PCOS), so a chance you could be ovulating late. But OPKs don’t always show you’re ovulating. even if you get a peak, with PCOS you still might not ovulate.
I do BBT as well and the temp rise is a way of confirming you did ovulate retrospectively so might be something to try xx

Betsy21 · 13/01/2023 17:11

Hi all 😀A bit of a long one here, please bare with me. Currently on cycle 1 of TTC with PCOS. I am hoping someone may be able to shed some light please.
I had bloods done on 23rd December due to my PCOS, they measured my PCOS and progesterone levels, however I'm slightly confused.
When they took my progesterone levels on 23rd Dec they stated I was borderline ovulating and advised to get some further tests done (1 week before my next period) I'm due these bloods next Friday. My period in December was 6-8th December and Flo app states my ovulation phase was 10th - 19th Dec (ovulation day the 17th). Is it possible I ovulated late?
My Jan period was 1st - 4th with ovulating phase of 8th - 14th (ovulating day being today the 13th). I've been taking OPK's since the 9th and these are all coming back low and yet to reach peak.
Again is it possible I am ovulating later or is this just my PCOS playing up?
Thanks!

@DanisEndo There is one super mum in our NCT course who is still doing ALL the things so you'll probably be like her! 😍 So cute. It's true, it's exhausting but so incredible! I loved being pregnant too.

@Mushroo Oh it's so lovely that your DH is getting really into it. I love glass storage! I guess I need to stop buying prepackaged meals in plastic too 🙈

Mushroo · 13/01/2023 15:27

@DanisEndo huge congrats! It sounds like everything is lining up perfectly for you.

@LeopardLover Ive just finished ‘it starts with the egg’ too and found it really interesting. I’ve bought some glass containers to replace our old plastic ones (Aldi special buy!) and DH has started taking folate as well (he previously discounted it as ‘something for women’).

We’re both doing dry Jan, and normally DH doesn’t stick to it, but he went for lunch with work today and didn’t drink because ‘he knows how important health is for fertility’. I was so happy, he’s really getting into it all now.

DanisEndo · 13/01/2023 15:22

@LeopardLover I really will !! 😂 I get really itchy feet if i dont have a few things on the go + a healthy to do list to work through. Although i anticipate a newborn comes with plenty to do 😂😍 even thinking about the busy stressful smelly crying tired parts gives me butterflies! I want it so much!

@DanisEndo Ahhh, you'll love research during the pregnancy phase then! I read lots of good books haha. Knowledge is power and all that 😉

Honestly enjoy multitasking and getting everything done. I love it and respect it. I was once like you! Hopefully you'll get a sleeper and it'll continue. 😉

DanisEndo · 13/01/2023 15:11

thank you @LeopardLover !!

Im defo going to put some of these books on order in the next few months. Me and OH are defo 'research' preparers :')
Trying to also get lots of the 'odd jobs' at the house sorted as well as wedding planning and now building a client bank ahahahahah insert manic laughter Anyone worry about trying to do too much at once and being stretched too thin?

LeopardLover · 13/01/2023 15:06

@DanisEndo Ahhhh, congratulations! That's great news and well done for keeping up with the fitness and healthy eating.

We've always found girls names super easy, really struggled to find one for our son (spent over 10 years picking a name)... I suspect will have another boy but he'll probably end up nameless for months haha.

I've started reading "It starts with the egg". It's so interesting, I did most of the things it suggests when having my DS, but it's a nice reminder to eat well and give yourself 3 months of doing so for optimum egg health! Also the science encouraged my DV to commit to daily vitamins etc too haha.

DanisEndo · 13/01/2023 14:54

Soooooo many of us now its getting hard to keep track!! 😂

How are all our BFP doing?? @marleyandme @babybrainfart @LisaJor22 @becomingfall @Foreverhope82 How're you feeling? Any due dates in the calendar yet?

I got my big job promotion at work !!!! 💖 so gradually ticking off all the ducks i want in a row pre-TTC. Elbow deep in wedding planning. Still in a good gym and swim routine, slowly loosing weight, and cut back significantly on alcohol. Will add folic acid in soon im just sooo crap at remembering every morn.

OMG ahaha i dont have a single boys name but i have 3 girls names. If we did end up having a boy i'd just need to let OH pick (with oversight of course)😂Speaking more and more about being parents and it makes my soul so happy to see that in OH!

@Mummymidwife33 that’s great news! How long is the recovery for your partner? And when can you start TTC? I’m sure he can’t even think about that right now 😂

We have 2 weeks A/L in August when DD is off school, so might go abroad depending on finances. If we are lucky enough to conceive in April, I could be 4 months. I wouldn’t really want to be 6+ months as I was big with my last 2 and don’t fancy waddling in the heat 😆 Then a UK break in October but less risky, so don’t mind if I am further on in PG.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 13/01/2023 12:06

I have a girls name I really want but no idea with boys. Used the only name DH and I agreed on with DS!

Just spoke to the path lab and my blood test has been moved forward to the 23rd Jan as I don’t need to leave a gap so hopefully I have all my results by the end of Jan.

Chooba · 13/01/2023 12:00

@123ROLO we had a looooooong chat about it last night! We already have a boys decided if it was the case, but girl names are challenging us...

Mushroo · 13/01/2023 11:20

@123ROLO haha yup! We have loads of
girls names but really struggling with boys!

I need to book some holidays in, has anyone looked at travel insurance? As in, do I take out normal travel insurance now and change it if I’m pregnant? Is it easy to do?

123ROLO · 13/01/2023 10:55

Definitely don't hold back on booking things. Ttc can be stressful and dominate your time/headspace thats all fine if it only takes a couple of months but you dont know that. I spent time with my friend at the weekend who has been ttc for 2 years, she feels really miserable that she's put her life on hold for so long, she has now booked loads of events for the first half of this year.

I have a notes page with a list of baby names. It's now getting very long 😂. Anyone else do this?

Hopingforno2in2023 · 13/01/2023 08:31

So glad it went well mummy! You have made me impatient for ours. Going to call the two clinics today and get quotes.

Mummymidwife33 · 13/01/2023 08:19

Well we are all done! Both sides were reconnected and the surgeon was very positive of our chances.

Re booking things. I'd like to get a little holiday in this year. It would be nice to get some time before a baby hopefully comes along! We're looking at maybe going in September but we'll wait until the spring to book in case I'm pregnant, obviously can only fly up to certain dates etc. I've been away on holiday in both of my two previous pregnancies- I think around 30 odd weeks. All was fine but I would say that the heat exhausts you so I wouldn't be booking anywhere massively hot in the later stages of pregnancy. Also get flexi tickets just in case anything crops up that means you would be safer in the U.K. There are many countries I wouldn't want to give birth in, not to mention the expense!

Chooba · 12/01/2023 19:05

We're booking things too. We have a couple of short breaks in April and July, but don't want to put everything on hold but are trying to find a balance. We'd like to do New York in December but it's definitely too soon too book that...just in case!

Hopefulhoney6 · 12/01/2023 18:11

@happyfeet5 absolutely I am booking holidays - been TTC since last May so don’t want my life to be on hold.
and if I have terrible morning sickness etc I’ll hopefully just be happy I’m pregnant and then change the page of the holiday (from friends it mostly ebbs and flows). Obviously if I was crippling ill then we’d have to rethink, but the money would be spent either way.
We’re most likely going to the Caribbean for a wedding (I know some people may worry about Zika, but I’m not) and then Europe in June. Not booking anything more than 9 months away!!

CRbear · 12/01/2023 17:56

Congrats @becomingfall - may you be the precursor to many more BFPs!

@PeopleAreToads - I’m with you- we still need a life!! It could take over otherwise and that’s no good.

@Hopingforno2in2023 sounds like things are going in the right direction! It feels good to be “doing something” towards the end goal I think.

@Summer022 you’re not out until AF shows!

Summer022 · 12/01/2023 16:56

Congrats @becomingfall 😊 I am due AF any day now, have tested today and BFN again despite BD’ing on the right days etc. Feeling hopeful for cycle 2 now, just want AF to hurry up so I can start a fresh cycle. Love seeing all the positive stories, gives me some hope x

Hopingforno2in2023 · 12/01/2023 16:52

Just booked my AMH test to be done in person. Went for 6th February as I have my bloods for my tiredness this month so decided to space them out a bit. Just want to get the reversal booked but need to be patient and line everything up.

PeopleAreToads · 12/01/2023 16:52

@happyfeet5 holidays is a hard one when you have no idea where you'll be up to or how you feel. I've taken the 'you can't put your life on hold approach' and booked centre parcs with friends for April, which I may regret if I'm in the first trimester. But equally I might need the break and distraction if we haven't conceived by then

CRbear · 12/01/2023 16:45

@happyfeet5 i don’t think it can be a bad thing at all!’

holiday wise we’re just coming home from one now - hence my temping being so erratic - and we have a trip booked in April. If I have been lucky enough to get pregnant this time I’ll be just before the cut off for going all being well!

i bought a souvenir for a baby today. I figured if I got pregnant here I’d like to have something for the baby and if I didn’t- I’ve got plenty of friends having babies who it can be a present for! I woke up with some cramping on 7DPO - I wondered if it could be implantation, but most likely it was my bowels 😂 tmi but they’re never quite right when I’m away. I’d be lying if I didn’t have a feeling like I was pregnant - no symptoms just a feeling- but I’ve no doubt everyone on their first cycle TTC feels that!

Hopingforno2in2023 · 12/01/2023 16:43

Many congrats fall!
