This is utterly ridiculous but Google is shit at 'advice' and I need some real people..

How long did it take you to conceive first time? Google sets unrealistic expectations and I'm sick of feeling crap because of it..

I am TTC baby no1 and I need some real answers in how long it took, or if you are still trying?

✨Thank you

One more thing @MK85 - IVF success at 37 is most definitely a very really success at your age! So don't despair. Pregnancy rates at my clinic for my age group are 30 - 35% - so far far higher than the success rate each month if just trying to conceive naturally. Sending positive thoughts your way 🙂

Wagsandclaws · 17/10/2022 16:51

My last ds aged 40 - took 27 months. We'd given up tbh.

Otoh my eldest Dd is 30 had her coil out Last month in preparation for ttc and has just found out 2 days ago she is pg.

She did use preseed and a clear blue fertility monitor though so they might have helped.

countrypunk · 17/10/2022 16:50

@MK85 Apparently there is research to show that coenzyme q10 can improve both egg and sperm quality, so we're both taking that. There are two forms, ubiquinol and upiquinone. Look for ubiquinol.

I'm also taking the Wild Nutrition fertility supplement, vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium, evening primrose oil, vitamin B6, magnesium, l-arginine and royal jelly. I know it all sounds ridiculous and I'm probably clutching at straws. Oh and I'm not boozing! I'm sure you will, but please do your own research on all these supplements rather than just taking my word for it. I know some women don't get on with evening primrose oil at all, for example. And good luck. You'll probably be fine - we're in the unlucky minority. The vast majority of people our age will conceive within the first year.

Sorry to hijack thread!

@countrypunk
I know there's nothing that improves age related egg quality but have they given you any advice regarding this ?
Have they advised you to take any supplements or given you any real statistics for the age bracket ? I'm about to turn 37 and I have pcos so I know its going to be difficult to produce a quality egg. Currently waiting for ivf but question weather success is even a reality at this age

countrypunk · 17/10/2022 15:36

Still trying after 2 years, now going through IVF. I am 38 though. Doctor thinks issues are a combination of ropey egg quality and fluctuating sperm quality.

I'm not sure how useful this exercise will be for you. All it will show you is that TTC is different for everyone.

oobeedoobee · 17/10/2022 15:34

Both times I came off the pill to TTC, I was pregnant literally straight away.

I know I'm definitely in the minority, as my midwife jokingly compared my 'reproductive' capability to those of a rabbit ! She hadn't heard of it happening so immediately to anyone twice !
( Not a 'brag' btw. It actually made me absolutely panic if I was unwell with vomiting etc, and I simply refused to have any sex at all if my coil was coming up for renewal etc !)

Everyone is different though, but I believe the 'average' is 6 to 12 months ?

NCFT0922 · 17/10/2022 15:24

dC1 - contraceptive failure
DC2 - 16 months after last depo injection
DC3 - 1st cycle after breastfeeding for 11 months
DC4 - 2nd cycle after stopping the pill

with a MC in between 3 & 4 which was also 2nd cycle.

MK85 · 17/10/2022 15:14

17 years and still trying lol

Lineeyes222 · 17/10/2022 15:05

3 cycles - DS1
1 cycle - ended in MMC
6 cycles - current pregnancy (fingers crossed it sticks...)

It's a game of luck. If you TTC in your fertile window, assuming no fertility issues, you have 20-25% chance of conceiving. And then it's estimated that 20-25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.

Nicklebox · 17/10/2022 10:55

4 months first aged 30
ist month second aged 32
4months third aged 35

polkadotpixie · 17/10/2022 10:22

11 cycles - DS (aged 32/33)
4 cycles - MC (aged 36/37)
12 cycles & counting (aged 37/38)

There's technically nothing wrong with either of us...normal AMH/USS/semen analysis/HyCoSy but I just don't conceive easily. I have just had a lap for suspected endometriosis though and she's tidied everything up in there so hopefully I'll get pregnant now 🤞

BackOnTheBandWagon · 17/10/2022 09:58

8 months for DC1, age 33
2 months for DC2, age 36

H1994 · 17/10/2022 09:49

I've been incredibly lucky to fall pregnant on my 2nd cycle! Currently 10+1 <3

muddybootx · 11/10/2022 10:38

16 months to get a BFP that ended in MMC. On cycle 7 since and nothing yet.

I went into TTC thinking it would happen quickly (partner has a daughter from previous relationship - unplanned). We had tests done after a year of trying and turns out there are issues on his side - so you really can't call it but I hope things are quicker for you x

Belladonnamama · 11/10/2022 10:35

First month on all of my three children. I was late 20s early 30s. Non smoker, non drinker but I was overweight conceiving all three.

Chaoscontrol · 11/10/2022 10:14

@Puppers i just wanted to feel less alone.

'averages' are not helpful and can be a little sole destroying.

Sorry if this isn't what you think I should do, but as this is my very first time it's nice to know real people and real answers, regardless how varied.

Thank you for everyone's reply. It really has made me realise I need to not put so much pressure on myself for it to just 'work' straight away ✨

OP you won't get any useful information from a thread like this. There are so many variables that can have a massive impact on fertility. If you want to use other people's fertility history as an indication of your own, then you need to be asking for information solely from women your age, your height/weight, with the same cycle length etc as you, same history of smoking/drugs, same diet, same stress levels, the same medical conditions (if any), the same family history, with a partner the same age who shares the same risk factors as yours. Even then it's unlikely that the information will be of a quality that will allow you to make assumptions about your own fertility.

BoudiccaVibes · 11/10/2022 09:46

First month, I was 21.

LT2 · 11/10/2022 09:12

First try when I was 30

TheBirdintheCave · 11/10/2022 09:07

15 months for DS1.
3 months for the baby we miscarried.
Now six months on from that and still waiting :( My husband has low sperm motility so things are even more difficult for us.

Poweredbyteaandcake · 11/10/2022 08:59

Second month of trying but had been off the pill for a year beforehand. Was convinced it would take much longer!

FirstTimeTryer93 · 11/10/2022 08:56

3 months xx

crossstitchingnana · 11/10/2022 06:32

3-4 months both times.

WDWY · 11/10/2022 06:29

Thought you'd find these NHS stats (attachment) useful on how long it takes on average!

How long did it take the first time?
LizaSimpson · 11/10/2022 06:29

First time with both my children, for some reason.

DS wasn't really trying but knew I was ovulating that day.

DD tried every other day for a week in the ovulation period.
