Help..don’t seem to be ovulating and GP reluctant to refer

Hi, I am wondering if anybody can help me/recommend herbal meds or give me success stories .

I have not used contraception since March 2020 and not had a positive. I am 41 and have 2 grown up boys to a previous marriage however my now husband is younger than me and has no children and we would love a family. I have always wanted a third child.

I had my bloods taken in June 2021 and everything was ‘normal’, hubby is going for semen analysis but can’t get an appt until Dec. I’m just hoping that in the meantime anybody can recommend some herbal medicine to help me ovulate as it seems I’m not based on my LH strips. They are so faint and today there is not even a second line on CD19. I have been taking folic acid, Co-q10, Vitamin B6 and have just this week introduced Maca Root in tablet form. I’m desperately at my wits end and my GP has said there is a very slim chance of me being referred for fertility treatment due to my age.

Thanks for reading of you got this far!

I'm currently taking conceive plus ovulation support and conceive plus fertility support vitamins! I don't ovulate till around CD 30 every month, so I'm going to start soy isoflavones next month, which I took when conceiving DD they brought ovulation forward about a week xx

You take 4 a day and can either take them throughout the day, or 2 in the morning and 2 at night.

I took 2 in the morning and 2 at night because I found it easier to remember, I kept them on my bedside table

Thanks@NalaNana they should arrive tomorrow x

Recommend inositol too! Also a multivitamin (without vitamin A)! I'd also ask to see your actual blood results.

At my GP the receptionists sorted results into piles of abnormal and normal and the GP only reviewed abnormal ones. They missed my PCOS because although my FSH and LH levels were both within the normal range, my LH was double my FSH and they should be more of a 1:1 ratio, it turned out it was a sign of PCOS which I was then diagnosed with after some more tests. A gynaecologist at a completely different procedure picked it up and my GPs had completely missed it. After that I was put on metformin and on it ovulate regularly (before I had not ovulated in over a year!)

Could you buy a natural cycles subscription (I think 30-50 a year) and comes with basal thermometer. Start tracking your temperature each day to spot ovulation and understand your cycle better.

@Blueberrywitch i have just started trying to temp this month. Amazon delivered my thermometer with a low battery so it’s not working properly, just my luck x

@Khanny I wrote a post on here about them before I think they're great. Here's my LH chart before I started using them (up and down spikes) and after a couple of weeks of using them. Made a huge difference!

@NalaNana Fingers crossed they are something that works me also. How many times a day do you take them?

Do you have a healthy bmi? Sometimes if you're overweight it can help to lose weight.

No I’m not overweight but I’m sure a bit of exercise wouldn’t harm x

I swear by inositol! I have PCOS and was having extremely irregular periods so probably not ovulating, taking this since April and I have monthly peaks and periods now. Obviously can’t say 100% that I’m ovulating but it looks good!

I use this brand Here

Good luck x

Read ‘It starts with the egg’

I credit that with finally getting my rainbow baby a week before my 43rd birthday after 7 miscarriages in 4 years.

If you can find a private clinic doing a timed cycle with monitoring then I’d really recommend it. This will help you maximise your chances every month and is far cheaper than IVF. Try to get a faster SA for husband too.

Hi OP I started using Conceive Plus Ovulation Support in August/September and conceived on the first cycle! I was ovulating (I think) but my cycles were all over the place following an ectopic pregnancy and those vitamins seemed to sort it right out

@NalaNana just ordered some!

@NalaNana thank you. I’m a bit put off using those types of vitamins as I once tried the seven seas trying for a baby and they totally messed up my cycle. May give them a go though😊

The co-Q10 needs to be at medicinal doses. My friend took it after 5 failed IVF procedures (poor egg quality) and got pregnant naturally. She said it cost her around £6 per day for the doses required.

@ClaryFairchild I just read about this over the weekend. I’ve been taking one tablet per day of a low dosage and when I worked out how many I should be taking for the recommended dosage it is about 6 a day! Took my last one today too x

Sorry for the multiple replies however my other bit of advice would be not to stop with the ovulation sticks. As in - you might ovulate late (how long are your cycles?) so keep checking every day even when it seems far too late just to try to get a sense of what's going on.

@WonderWoop i think that’s where I’ve possibly made mistakes before, I get to around now and stop tracking as I presume it’s too late to ov but I’ll just teach everyday. Also just bought a bbt thermometer too which I’ve not used before now x

Potatomashed · 03/10/2022 22:34

OP have a look at aviva rom, she’s an American doctor and herbalist.

Theres heaps of reasons people don’t ovulate so just cos something works for one doesn’t mean it works for you! I have PCOS and firstly did some liver cleansing and support (I think milk thistle and something else, and spirulena) and then used vitex agnus castus in the first half of my cycle.

It’s definitely worth looking at other factors before or along side trying herbal medication. Stress management, nutrition, movement, adequate rest, addressing any relationship issues or concerns you might have about pregnancy or mothering again which could cause underlying stress.

I wish you the best good luck!

@Potatomashed brilliant, thank you. Will have a look at aviva rom x

Hi @Khanny have a look into inositol. I'm not sure if I can post a link but best place I found for it is bill powders. It helped me to bring forward ovulation significantly so may help to induce it for you... definitely worth a try

Brilliant, thank you @WonderWoop i will search it up x

The NHS will fund ovulation induction if you already have a child. However it depends what the age limit in your CCG is. Referral times are also very long at the moment.

ClaryFairchild · 03/10/2022 22:40

advancedfertility.com/2020/09/18/coenzyme-q10-and-fertility/ - mentions possible dosages.
