Hi can you tell me if a GP can prescribe letrozole please or does it have to be done through a fertility specialist? Thank you x

I know this is an old thread but it's so reassuring to see the above post. I'm 39 almost 40, had my first at 37, not ttc without much luck and feeling like I left it too long, knowing I wanted two and having been with my DH for over a decade. We just weren't ready before due to living in a tiny flat and my doing a long postgraduate degree (now I wish I had prioritised baby making). I'm so in love with my son and incredibly grateful but worried I won't have another.

MaculataO · 05/08/2023 11:00

Hi all long time no chat. Just wanted to not abandon the thread and spread some positivity. So up on the chat here, I had just found out I was pregnant and was treating it all like I was holding a tray of precious porcelain while wearing clown shoes! Just to say at 43 years YOUNG I gave birth to my son back in May. Absolutely healthy lovely babe at 8lb, born by c-section and he's doing great. almost 3 months old now. It's knackering and exhausting and like nothing else but I love him so so much. So here is the success story I was desperate to find when I was TTC. Sure it's a little harder as you get older but my advice is that we are all 'realists' at our core and we know this, but what we truly need in the TTC stage is hope, positivity, and a bunch of success stories that make us cry with joy. So this is mine. Read it and may it make your day better and your TTC journey feel a little easier. Love to all. Don't let our patriarchal, negative societal expectations get you down. As my midwife told me when I told her I was old, 'you're absolutely not the oldest woman I'm seeing by a long shot. And the oldest was 50'. x x x

@MoonlightDreamer I'm currently taking ubiquinol for egg quality so that might be worth trying. I'm also have fertility acupuncture. I unfortunately had 2 x MMC's before having DS and I believe acupuncture really helped.

MoonlightDreamer · 04/08/2023 14:21

@Rainbows121 thankyou that's reassuring . It's hard to stay calm. We've been trying since our 20s but didn't get the referral process going until 4 years ago and it's taken this length of time for nhs to get the ball rolling. I have pcos and I'm currently on ovulation induction medication. Ive done 3 cycles on it but no luck.i did have a chemical in december, by some miracle after a dye test, which was the first time weve ever had a postive pregnancy test but nothing since . I think egg quality is quite a problem for me given the pcos and age creeping up . If it hasn't happened in the next few months I think its onto ivf for us as he has morphology issues alongside my pcos. I'm currently 15dpo and AF is due tomorrow. I haven't bothered testing this month as bbt has dropped and pms symptoms have kicked in so I'm certain I'm out

Rainbows121 · 04/08/2023 14:06

@MoonlightDreamer Hi, I was 38 when I conceived my 1st and 39 when he was born. I'm now 43 ttc #2

MoonlightDreamer · 04/08/2023 13:37

Would you ladies mind if I joined ? I'm technically not 40 yet but I'd love a bit of support and know that it's still possible at an advanced age. I'll be 38 this year and I'm ttc#1 . I have no friends that are actively trying or have had children at this age. All of them being 20s / early 30s.

Rainbows121 · 04/08/2023 13:25

As this chat started nearly 1 year ago, I was wondering if anyone was successful in falling pregnant x

@meetmeintheautumn No I don't, I find it all to stressful and all consuming. DH then feels the pressure and DTD just feels forced.
Having a 2nd child is pretty much all I can think of. My little boy is 3 and hardly uses his pushchair and the thought of it never been used again breaks my heart.
I know I'm extremely lucky to have 1 child as there are many women on here desperate for a child. I had 2 MMC's before him but I just don't feel done with one x

I feel the same about baby/toddler things.. TTC takes all my mind as well..

I’m 43 in October, don’t think there’s much chance as DH doesn’t often ejaculate any more (he’s in his sixties), but we DTD frequently so maybe, just maybe. Good luck everybody.

There's always a chance. Fingers crossed for you x

Rainbows121 · 31/10/2022 22:35

GingerFox2021 · 31/10/2022 21:35

I’m 42. Trying for a second over 2 years now although with gaps.. feeling very sad for myself..

It's so hard to stay positive isn't it. I don't know if it's just me but there seems to be so many pregnancy announcements/ births at the minute x

@MaculataO that’s brilliant news.

Bluelightbaby · 24/09/2022 00:53

42 3/4 lol I have two teenage daughters from a previous relationship (fell of instantly with both).

been ttc for I think 8/9months. Had two miscarriages - from instantly falling pg. last one was December last year - since then nothing !

periods are regular, all blood tests/scans/seamen tests are normal

using OPK but tbh giving up hope now :(

Rainbows121 · 23/09/2022 19:24

That's wonderful news @MaculataO congratulations. It's so difficult not to worry when you've had losses. Positive thoughts! x

MaculataO · 23/09/2022 18:13

We have just had a positive test. I'm so glad but so apprehensive given the previous miscarriages. Got everything crossed. Feel like I need to wrap myself in cotton wool but I know how daft and not realistic that is!! Really hoping this can work out this time after such a wait. How is everyone else doing? x

Rainbows121 · 23/09/2022 15:17

Hi, how is everyone doing? x

Rainbows121 · 16/09/2022 14:38

@kirinm My little one is at the stage where I need to have a good clear out of all the baby toys, books, clothes etc. When I try to process the thought of not having a 2nd and say to DH that we need to get rid he responds with "no let's put in loft incase we have another".

Fingers crossed to us all that we get a BFP soon x

When my DD was that age I felt exactly like this. Didn't want to take her pushchair out of the house or throw / give away any clothes.

It basically felt like grieving. I'm not even sure why I've decided to try again because it is all just a terribly upsetting and painful process.

meetmeintheautumn · 16/09/2022 10:45

@Rainbows121 I feel so grateful for having DD1 but I also feel like I cannot stop thinking about having another.
I tried a few months ago to just think if it doesn't happen then it's just meant to be one.... I can see so many positives to having one but I have such a draw to have another....
