Anyone else trying to get pregnant and want to talk about it?

I thought I'd start this thread as monkey and I have been talking about getting pregnant on another thread. Is it just the 2 of us? Anyway, this might be a good place to talk about it before (and if) we can add to the expecting in 2003 thread

My ds is just 5 so if I do get pregnant soon-ish he will be 6 when any half sibling is born (separated from his father). I feel ambivalent about being pregnant again, as I've said elsewhere. Some days I feel excited at the prospect, some days I think Oh No, no sleep, ever again...Anyway, I thought we could all (or both if it's just the 2 of us!) chat about ttc, pregnancy tests and feelings here. For me I have to say that starting trying was strange (sorry if this is too much info) as it's the first time I've ever had sex whilst deliberately trying to get pregnant, as ds was a happy mistake. Very odd...

bluestar let me think mmmmm yes! I'm not 3 or is it 4 weeks late. I've lost track now. Still got symptoms, but it's got to the point I can't decide what's a 'syptom' & what's normal. Do my boobs feel funny or is it just the cold? My appetite's all over the place, but maybe it's just cos I'm tired & lazy. aha! tired!!!!! You see, I dunno whether I'm coming or going.

I felt the way you do when I was a few days late. Now I'm a few weeks late I just feel fed up.

The test should show up pos (if you are) say a couple of days late. Then if neg they say repeat again in a week. Mind you, I'm a fine one to ask.

bluestar · 11/11/2002 13:02

Also am a few days late but do have a slightly irregular cycle and have done a test, but -ve. Does anyone else find it frustrating that you do have some symptoms, are not usually this late but a test is not showing positive? How long can it take for a test to show positive? Of course, I could just be in a for a late one, and if I am, I wish it would hurry up!!!!

Lizzer · 11/11/2002 12:20

I can hear it now...
Marina: Ring-ring "Hi, is that provident insurance? Yes, well I'd like to make a claim please...Of course, its erm.... its erm...a personal item... yes, its a....erm....how shall i put it?"

Ok, off to Boots in an hour. Deep breaths. Monkey The reason I managed to convice myself there was nothing to worry about was that I feel sooooooo premenstrual, every day since friday before last. But also there's that wonderful place I like to go to a lot in my life called 'Ignorance is Bliss' Have you heard of it? Its beautiful, really worth a trip....

Lizzer, best of luck!

monkey · 11/11/2002 11:40

How did you manage to hold off for 9 days Lizzer?

monkey · 11/11/2002 11:40

Marina - working on that helpline ... don't you think they've heard no end of bizarre things? I bet dropping your machine down the loo will seem pretty tame. Tried putting it on the radiator for a couple of days??

Marina · 11/11/2002 11:17

Oooer Lizzer, keep us posted and hope you get the result you want.
Can I suggest a category on here for most inept TTCer? I DROPPED my Persona down the toilet last week and it is knackered. Too ashamed to ring their helpline to find out if there is any point in trying to resuscitate it...

Lizzer · 11/11/2002 11:02

Never thought I'd see myself on a thread like this BUT, am 9 days late. Am off to buy a test this afternoon. Have absolutely no idea what to think - i've not been trying, but now dd is nearly 3 I don't think it would be the end of my world. Ok, I admit to quite liking the idea sometimes...only snag is I've only been with dp for 7 months - we don't live together. I DO NOT want to be a single parent again with 2 under 4...

But then [in sarcastic tone] I'm sure the tender boobs, back ache, feeling sick, sleeping badly, heightened sense of smell is just a bad dose of PMT....????!!!!!!

I'll be back this evening with the answer, hopefully cursing the waste of a tenner for the test...gulp....

Hi Tinker

Re: taking the pill - don't have any 'technical' medical advice, but this happened to a friend of mine who got to about 28 weeks pregnant before she realised, and she'd been taking the pill throughout this. She went on to have a lovely baby boy with no problems at all.

bayleaf · 10/11/2002 13:00

I keep thinking of other sites that I havent' mentioned on here. This one is worth a look

monkey · 10/11/2002 11:37

Ta. I don't think I can start doing it now anyway, from the little do know, but I might start doing this in the future.

bayleaf · 10/11/2002 10:38

I've always taken it in my mouth - which I know is fine - I'm not adamant but pretty sure that any normal temperature taking site is OK AS LONG AS IT IS FIRST THING IN THE MORNING, AT THE SAME TIME EACH DAY AND YOU HAVEN'T MOVED VIGOROUSLY/GOT OUT OF BED ETC ETC. I know the electronic ear thermometres are NOT OK but a digital mouth one is OK. Tcoyf.com is the place for any in depth charting/temperature questions!

monkey · 10/11/2002 10:01

another one for you bayleaf. All the sites saying about taking your basal body temperature - well, maybe I'm just totally thick, but no one's specifically said - does this have to be your vaginal temperature or can you take your temperature under your armpit?/ in your ear?

bayleaf · 09/11/2002 18:21

Oh this one I can do! You can either go back to your GP and insist on him investigating your irregular cycle - possible PCOS etc etc, 21 day test to check that you ARE ovulating.
If you don't want to do that then you can regularise your cycle by either accupuncture or homeopathy or herbs- I had a totally irregular cycle when trying for dd and got it to a steady 31/32 days by taking a homeopathic medicine not sure of the name now tho' and I've not got it any more as am onto conventional medicine these days.
Look at the nutricentre site here and also some of the sites I've linked to below - one herb that is particularly good is Angus Castus (Sp???) AKA Vitex
HTH
Bayleaf ( fertility expert - theory only, have so far failed the pratical exam!!)

pluto · 09/11/2002 15:49

Still trying for no2 - for 13 months now. GP says come back in the spring and try to relax Grrr! Totally irregular cycle varying from 23 days to 37 days. Any suggestions?

bayleaf · 09/11/2002 15:44

WONDERFUL Tinker - I have absolutely no idea! But then slightly unfair as getting pregnant by accident is NOT by speciality subject

Tinker · 09/11/2002 14:35

I've got one. If you are on the pill and forgot to take it and got preganant as result, but DID'NT KNOW you were pregnant until it began to show and, thus, carried on taking the pill, would that cause any harm?

bayleaf · 09/11/2002 11:38

The baby implants 2-6 days after conception usually but it can be as late as 12 days.
DEpending on how much you are drinking alcohol has been linked to failure to conceive ( but then most thing have!) I don't think a glass a night would be too much of a problem but 2 or 3 every night might well be.( Or at least a theoretical problem!)
I have clearly devoted FAR too much of the last year to researching this ttc business - please someone ask a question that I have no idea about and have never even considered!

Wills · 08/11/2002 22:32

We're still trying and I'm fairly convinced that since we're both stressed out at the moment that there is no way that I could be pregnant yet - but... because I'm really stressed I find it really easy to come home and pour myself a glass of wine. Everything I've ever read says its ok at first i.e. before you know - but does anyone know if that's true?

Also I know that when you concieve its a little while before the baby attaches itself to you (i.e. it floats for a time being). When does the attachment happen - first month, second?

bayleaf · 08/11/2002 20:21

Oh Thank you Soupdragon - I'd got so chuffed with my little self and then so frustrated - I'll give it a try!

SoupDragon · 08/11/2002 18:25

Bayleaf, This is off topic but the word from Tech is that if you put a comma after the first link, you can put another one in later in the same post. I think the comma has to go after the final }

It was annoying me so I emailed Tech a while back to ask!

bayleaf · 08/11/2002 18:20

I know 2 people who have tried it - tho neither 100% strictly - One lot had the hair test and passed before they even started the diet but are not pregnant - the other didn't have the hair test ( too vain to stop dying like me!) and just tried the diet loosly and has just got pregannt thru ivf.
A nurse at the fertility centre I'm atteding was very dismissive of it insofar as she said she had seen sevral examples of people who had tried to follow the diet very stricly and got obsessive and she wasn't very impressed. That said most of their recommendations follow the general advice for ttc and aren't controversial, I don't see that it can harm to try the general healthy eating/organic principles without going over the top and never allowing a gin and tonic or a Jelly tot to pass your lips

monkey · 08/11/2002 17:09

Hello Tula & good luck to you too.

To all those who are having difficulties conceiving, have any of you actually tried Foresite? I was just curious because one (sorry can't remember) just made a jokey comment about them, but actually I heard they had an 85% success rate in dealing with fertility problems, from women with very irregular cycles to those not ovulating at all. I'm sure that very strict diet must be a real drag, but 85% sounds pretty impressive to me. What do others think?
