I thought I'd start this thread as monkey and I have been talking about getting pregnant on another thread. Is it just the 2 of us? Anyway, this might be a good place to talk about it before (and if) we can add to the expecting in 2003 thread

My ds is just 5 so if I do get pregnant soon-ish he will be 6 when any half sibling is born (separated from his father). I feel ambivalent about being pregnant again, as I've said elsewhere. Some days I feel excited at the prospect, some days I think Oh No, no sleep, ever again...Anyway, I thought we could all (or both if it's just the 2 of us!) chat about ttc, pregnancy tests and feelings here. For me I have to say that starting trying was strange (sorry if this is too much info) as it's the first time I've ever had sex whilst deliberately trying to get pregnant, as ds was a happy mistake. Very odd...

Bayleaf, my sympathies - ds was eventually conceived by ivf after 3 years, so I know what its like trying month after month. I would love to be pregnant again, but after 8 months or so of 'trying' (more in hope than expectation) we are now gearing up for more treatment.

Well I feel like the aged aunt on this thread as I have the dubious pleasure of having been trying the longest - 15 months at last count
I had less trouble getting pregnant with dd ( 21 months) but had 3 miscarriages so it stretched out over 2.5 years in the end - not fun.
I'm 38 so people worrying about being too old at nearly 36 make me smile wryly - have done months of Clomid Dot - no side effects apart from hot flushes in the middle of the night - but if your GP prescribes it rather than a specialist make sure
a) it's for 5 rather than 3 days
b) you are regularly scanned/21day tested rather than just waiting and seeing - you need to know if Clomid is definitely working not just find out it probably isn't when you're still not pregnant 6 months later! ( Bitter experience talking here - spending £90 on a private referral was money well spent for me). It must be hard having a very fertile partner - at least most of us can't compare in that way so we don't have that added stress.
Anyone who is trying to conceive should look on www.tcoyf.com as there is loads of information on there which could help - it is the website of the book 'Taking Charge of your Fertility'.
Our local Pound shop does pregnancy tests at £1 - so I feel free to test as often as I am tempted!

I shouldn't worry about ''too much information'' WWW - it's almost inevitable on a ttc thread!

and me. also feel very strange about trying (this is the first month) as ds who is now 1.5 was a happy accident. Also had a diagnosis of pcos when was younger though didnt seem to stop me getting pregnant the first time. Period due tomorrow and not feeling very optimistic.

Add me to the list!! - have been trying for about 6 months and nothing.. DD is 18mths old and would I would love her to have a baby brother or sister

dot1 · 05/11/2002 08:59

would love to!
Just to explain my complicated background.... I have a 10 month old ds with my partner - only she gave birth to him! Now it's my turn and things are proving more tricky (she got pregnant in about 5 seconds...). 8 months later I'm having blood tests and a scan as I had a diagnosis of pcos when I was younger and I've got an underactive thyroid gland. Not brilliant when you're trying for a baby, so I'm taking a couple of months break, but then am trying again from January - possibly with the help of Clomid.

Phew! Fingers crossed for us all...!

My dd is nearly 3 and I am thinking about number 2 - even bought 'Persona' to try to get the right timing! DH is very keen and I feel that dd needs a sibling but I am not really keen to be pregnant again - I am nearly 36 and worried about being that bit older...maybe will start 'trying' in the new Year....

musica · 04/11/2002 21:55

No, me too! I've got 1 1/2 year old ds, and trying for no.2. This month, I'm very unoptimistic, as dh got stuck in Europe due to the gales on the optimum weekend....my bad luck I guess!

WideWebWitch · 04/11/2002 21:54

sorry, and musica too
