Hello ladies.

So this is my story. I am 30years with a beautiful DD, aged 4. We decided we would finally give start trying for baby #2 in May. However, as we had a big family holiday planned for 14 nights during May this meant that we were only able to try prior to going on holiday. So we figured that month was completely out of the question.

My period was due towards the second half of the second week away but Instead I had very sore breasts and a super bubbly stomach. I just figured it was PMT symptoms especially as it was accompanied by spotting.

The spotting continued, everyday. On arrival home, I did a pregnancy test, really not believing I could be pregnant since we were unable to even really "try". To my shock and delight it was positive!

I had some spotting on my DD during early pregnancy so didn't think too much into it. However, the spotting got worse. I tried contacting a local midwife who advised that as I was only 4.5 weeks pregnant there was nothing I could other than wait it out.

It continued, with period cramping pains and a lower bad back, although they were mild. The spotting colour changed to bright red and then on Wednesday (last week) I knew I was completely miscarrying. We are devestated but we understand these things happen. I'm also trying not to overthink everything as that's what I always do.

I've now stopped bleeding. And feel that I've gone through a bit of an emotional roller-coaster the last week. We would like to try again, straight away. So I guess I'm looking for a little advice.

The Dr told me it's probably best to wait a cycle before trying again but looking online there doesn't seem to be any benefit or logic to this if you know you miscarried earlier in pregnancy and have passed the full miscarriage. Do you think I will be fine to immediately try again without first having a period?

And then if I was successful would I just count my pregnancy from the miscarriage bleed? (father than 1st day of last period)

I was thinking of booking a ultrasound scan privately to check the endometrium lining is thick enough to support a pregnancy. Do you think this is wise? And if so, do you think 2 weeks following MC would be the best suitable time to book a scan to view the thickness?

Also, people have told me how common MC is and how I obviously must have found out super early in pregnancy. But I didn't think we did find out super early? A few people have passed the same remark ; " you found out early if you was only 4.5 weeks. Most people don't know until later" now I understand if I hadn't of done a test then I would have assumed this MC was my period. However, I was 3 days passed my due period when I tested so? 😳 Isn't finding out your about 4.5 weeks pregnant about the usual??

Sorry for the ramble. I guess it's nice just to write everything down 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Thanks.

@Lauren441 hi op.

i also have a 4 year old DD :) we have been ttc number 2 for a year though.

took me 11 cycle to fall. But mc at 9 weeks end of April. Then needed ERPC surgery for retained tissue early May.

i then ovulated 2 weeks ago and been charting. Got a positive frer. For it to now be fading away. My period is 4 days late. So I know it’s a chemical but my temp is still high and not sure when to expect bleeding

I’m so so sad. Two losses in a row. And a year down the line with nothing to show for it!

i wasn’t told to wait after my mc or surgery so we tried straight away.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you and know how you feel@Lauren441 I can’t give any advice but wanted to comment as your post has a lot of similarities to what I was coming onto post.

I got a surprise positive last week on the 2nd day of our holiday and spent the last week getting nervously excited but sadly my tests havnt got any darker and Iv started bleeding today ( 6days after period was due) and in my gut I know it’s a full loss not just early pregnancy bleeding (I will test in 5/6 days to check test goes back to negative)

I think we will try immediately this month as I have been reading about how a chemical pregnancy (hate that term) can almost be viewed as the body preparing the womb for a future sucessful pregnancy and you are more fertile right after so hopefully that’s true?!

I will follow closely and see what answers you get about Asprin. Good luck and il keep an eye out for you on here as I guess we will be going through the TWW about the same time 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Sorry for your loss. It is very early but it’s still a loss and you’re still entitled to feel sad.

I have had this happen twice in a row. Once in a March (4wks2days), we didn’t try in April but would have done if DP hadn’t been away, and again just now in May (again 4wks2days).

The first time I thought was just bad luck, two in a row seems more than that so I’ve contacted the doctor for some tests. They’re starting with blood tests but guessing a scan might be something they look at further down the line or something I would look at paying for privately if we’re still having no luck.

I wouldn’t worry about doing this yet since it was just your first time and you were also lucky enough to catch first month, hopefully it was one off and you’ll catch again soon, this time with a sticky one.

They can’t do my blood tests until next cycle but I’ll be 100% trying again this month as I don’t see any point in waiting, I’m just mentally more prepared this time for it not to be successful if I do get a BFP.

good luck!

Sorry for your loss OP.

I had exactly the same circumstances, I miscarried my second pregnancy at 4 weeks, 5 days. Painful cramps and bleeding and pregnancy test went back to negative a few days later.

We started trying again that first cycle and got pregnant immediately. Everything went well and my 4-month old daughter is currently sleeping on me.

As a previous poster said, just make sure you're emotionally ready to try again. I was a nervous wreck until we got a private early scan and even then I was extremely worried throughout the pregnancy. I wasn't nervous at all during my first pregnancy as I didn't think it would happen to me.

Good luck!

I felt the same, once you’ve had one baby you think well I’ve already done it how can I not do it again. There’s so many things can influence why you have a miscarriage but that doesn’t stop it from sucking 😢. The one thing I know is there’s nothing you’ve done or not done, it was just nature being horrible.

Like Laurzz said, if you feel ready go for it. It is more nerve wrecking after a loss but fingers crossed for a quick sticky one for you too!

I’ve seen about aspirin but don’t really understand it but I’m tempted to ask the gp for thoughts on that one as it seems a lot of people rate it.

good luck getting your sticky bean!

Forgot to add.. It doesn't matter when you miscarry the heartache is the same for each person.

Laurzz · 30/05/2022 09:59

Hey

We had a miscarriage at 9 weeks, and I fell pregnant right away with no period in-between. I tracked my cycle so was able to pinpoint ovulation day etc. I was told to wait at least one cycle but they only say this for dating purposes. My Midwife dated me for confirmed day of Ovulation. I’m currently only 7 weeks pregnant but praying this one sticks 🙏. I'm unsure about the aspirin theory but maybe worth speaking to a medical profession on that one.

One thing I will say… make sure you both a mentally ready. We thought we were and got straight back to it but now it’s happened we are both a nervous reck. I’ve also been having nightmares about bleeding again. Every little twinge scares me. Although I think it is very natural to feel like this after a loss.

So my answer is "yes it's absolutely fine".

Good Luck on your journey!

Lauren441 · 30/05/2022 08:56

Thank you so much for your reply. Its really positive to hear a success story of someone else who carried to term first, MC and then went on again to have another successful term pregnancy. Most people I talk to MC first before having a successful pregnancy. I guess because I've already had one I thought it would be the same. And now I can't help but think somethings wrong. Or I've done/not done something.

I'm sorry about all your previous MC though, and hope that you catch soon with baby #3.

Ill begin trying immediately then. I kind of knew it made sense but just needed someone else to say, "yes absolutely that's fine!"

I guess the scan could only add value. So maybe I'll consider that too. I've also read that taking low dose aspirin at least 4 days a week can help the pregnancy stick and has a lower MC rate in early pregnancy. Do you know anything about this?

Many thanks!

Hey,

I have broken your message into questions as there was a lot but I hope this helps. I’ve had a miscarriage between my first and second child and between my second and what I hope one day will be my third so I do understand what you are going through.

  1. with both miscarriages I didn’t wait for a period and went back to trying straight away. With the first, I was successful that first month. With the second I’ve only just had my first period so can’t say this time around. Fingers crossed for you that it works for you and your ovulation pattern is the same.
  2. yep, count it from the day you started bleeding as this is effectively your cycle day 1 now.
  3. i can’t answer to do with scans, I have never done it, but given this was earlier on I’d expect your body will bounce back faster. (No promises, I’m not a scientist, it’s just my experience).
  4. 4.5 weeks is totally normal, I think the issue here is how people perceive miscarriage I.e. to them it is much later in the pregnancy. Don’t pay any mind to that, once you’ve passed your period due date it’s normal to test.
i hope some of this helps and good luck! X
