47 and trying for my second child....!!!

Just been to the doctor today and all my blood test results are good in fact the doctor says I am fertile. I'm not menopausal, not even perimenopausal; FSH of 9.5, LSH of 6.4 Progesterone 21 days result confirms ovulation; regular cycle and I could go on and on and on....bottom line is my body is able to get pregnant but I just need a good egg. Of course I know that the quality of my eggs is questionable and to use the doctors workds even though I'm ovulating its a lottery as to whether a good egg is released. My husband believes that I will get pregnant. Oh I have a son of 21. I've read success stories of women over 40 but know that of course they are not the norm. Anyone have any experiences to share with me to keep me believing???

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm 44 next week and was thinking about giving up TTC after 2 MC's this year.

This thread has shown me that there could be life in this old dog after all - Grin

Hi. I'm 47 with 4 children. I gave birth to them at the ages of 30,32,35 and 46. All natural, unaided conceptions and births. My husband and I are keeping our minds open to a 5th even at the age of 47. My doctor says my numbers look great, my periods are regular and the last pregnancy was no more difficult than the first. All healthy babies. Good luck!

I had my first child, 2 months before I was 35. I now have 4! I have been trying for one more but have had 2 m/c's in the last 10 months. I am nearly 43 and was worrying about my age, thanks to you lovely ladies I know there's a good chance that I will get my last beany!

Nogin, I'm like you, 37, turning 38 this year, contemplating a third. I was feeling a bit too old to maybe be thinking about it, but this discussion makes me feel a lot better

Bloody hell I'm 34 with an 18 month old and am totally knackered! Wouldn't be without her but wouldn't contemplate another at my age! Very impressed with you though you put me to shame!!!

Im 36 this year and thinking about having no 3 baby , but keep thinking am i to old and how old i will be when child is older , does anyone els have these thoughts? and does it matter?

I had my DD2 2 months before I turned 44. She was an "instant" baby conceived while we were wondering whether to ttc following 2x mmc. I actually got pg 3 times at 42-43

DD1 took us 18 months to conceive when I was 20....

I'm 47 and just had my third baby. Eldest is 25. Natural conception. Trouble free pg. It is lovely being a mum again. Good luck!

Go for it. I was 43 when I had my DD in Dec 06. I conceived in a month and hadn't ever tried before. What a shock! Now I'm pg again after a month of trying and expecting my second at 44. No sickness either time and the first pg was trouble-free. Just expect it to happen and it will.

I read about Annie Leibowitz the photographer having her first child at 51, conceived naturally I think. She later went onto have twins by surrogate.

Hi Keepbelieving. I had my 3rd son at 44 after a 12 yr age gap. He's now 2. Getting pregnant was easy (2 months) and I felt fit and healthy all the way through. In the toddlers group I go to 7 mums out of about 13 are mid forties. There's lots of people doing it

I was almost 42 when I had DD. I was going through an early menopause and my FSH was 12. The specialist said it was unlikely I would fall pregnant naturally and sent me off with Clomid. Never took it, was pregnant a month later. He was suprised and pleased! Then fell pregnant with DS when DD was just over a year old. Had him 6 months before my 44th birthday. Not sure what FSH levels etc were like then as I had no further tests. If I thought I was lucky with DD, then DS was a little miracle I think. Hope it all works out for you. No reason why it shouldn't.

I'm 46 and 24 weeks pregnant with my second child - conceived without too much difficulty, took six months (and, because of work, only saw DP at weekends for the first 4 months of that - living together all the time clearly helped!). Everything has gone smoothly so far, though I am finding the bump seems a lot heavier than I remember from DD1 at this stage - I think I've mislaid my abdominal muscles somewhere in the last 23 years.
Your hormone levels sound great, so you could be lucky. As you say, you only need one good egg!

I think you have the right attitude.
The odds are stacked against you but if you keep trying and hope for the best, well who knows? My friend and neighbour conceived last year at 44, gave birth at 45 to a gorgeous and healthy little boy. There are some very fertile women in their 40s.
Keep us informed.
