Progesterone for recurrent miscarriage

trinity198 · 21/03/2022 09:43

Just wondering if anyone has had any success with using progesterone for recurrent miscarriage? I've been through all of the rm tests and everything has come back fine but slight polycystic ovary on one side. I've been prescribed progesterone for next time.

I have also read It Starts With An Egg and am currently taking a load of vitamins recommended in there. These are methyl folate, myoinositol, uquibinol, NAC, alpha lipoic acid, omega 3, vita b6, b12, E, C and vitamin D3.

Hoping a combination of vita and progesterone might do the trick but I'm not hopeful!

Defo push for 3DPO that’s what worked for me after two MCs. Best of luck!!

Can you get more on a private prescription? Everything I've read instructs to take it from 2/3dpo since it's at these super early stages when the developing embryo needs the support of progesterone, just in case the corpus luteum isn't producing enough to sustain the pregnancy.

It worked for me 🙂

it worked me too the first cycle I took it after 2 years TTC

trinity198 · 15/05/2022 16:43

@Regenbogen22 the private prescription says from pregnancy as well as the letter the wrote to my GP so I would probably have to look into seeing another private doctor. I'll see what I can do, thanks 😊

@Palease ah I've heard that from others too. I have one lot which I got on private prescription and have asked my GP to prescribe it as and when after that. I asked about taking it from 3DPO but they won't let me get any more unless pregnant 🙄

@Fightingbackwithhappiness yeah I agree. I think I'd have liked to have been more informed on the pill. Now I'm older I feel likeminded put on it to cover the symptoms of pcos instead of them trying to help me treat the symptoms. I also ended up having a blood clot due to the pill. It's awful really. And now there's that pill that girls can get without a prescription!

I have given up both alcohol and caffeine although I will have a glass of coke every now and again in a pub or restaurant if there's not much else available. I know the chances of it making a difference are slim but I'm just in the mid frame that if I try and do everything I can no then I can't feel like I should have done it if I was to suffer another miscarriage. Just hope it all pays off!

@trinity198
i totally agree with you about that! We all spend our teens and twenty’s being terrified of getting pregnant and it’s actually quite hard! If there was more education in school we Could all make much more informed decisions from an earlier age!
what’s your view on giving up caffeine and alcohol?

trinity198 · 26/04/2022 11:17

@Fightingbackwithhappiness yeah it's an awful experience isn't it but I feel a lot better about the whole thing now that I'm actively doing something to help. I'm 33 so not got all the time in the world either but like you said, no point worrying about things you can't change!

I'm sorry to hear about what your sister went through! It must have been so hard and I'm glad she got her baby in the end ☺️ I think fertility should be taught more in schools as I went into it blind and have learnt so much this last year which I wish I had known before!

@Palease thanks a lot for contributing your story, it really helps me feel more hopeful for the future! I thought about DHEA but was told that was used only in IVF. Maybe I could do with reading up on it again!

Palease · 26/04/2022 08:04

This can tell you better than I can

Hana89 · 26/04/2022 07:46

Hi @Palease please may I ask what DHEA is? I can decode It Starts With The Egg, but DHEA has me stumped! Haha!

Palease · 26/04/2022 07:12

It worked for me. After 2 MCs and 2 years TTC I was prescribed to take it from ovulation and that same month I got pregnant with my now 1 year old. I could not believe it.

I had also been taking DHEA as advised in ISWTE (after checking hormones via online blood testing service - medichecks) so I wonder if this helped too.

Fightingbackwithhappiness · 26/04/2022 07:02

@trinity198
yeah definitely getting B12.
Oh gosh I’m so sorry to hear that. You must have been heart broken. It’s so hard to come back from something like that but it sounds like you are doing really well and taking control where you can.

My older sister had the worst time conceiving and she miscarried several times and even had an ectopic pregnancy 😢. She was left with only ovary and a broken heart. She fought back though, She changed her diet, took supplements and she went for reflexology. She was one month away from starting IVF and then discovered she was pregnant! That was 11 years ago. Her story give me hope!
I’m 38 now and I’m trying not to get to hung up on my age as it’s not helpful. my main goal at the moment is to actually just feel happy again and get into the best frame of mind and so far it’s going okay!
thanks for the book recommendation, it’s making a lot of sense so far :)

trinity198 · 25/04/2022 18:23

@Fightingbackwithhappiness yeah I heard vegan diet is good for fertility as long as you get your b12. I've been taking that vitamin too because I probably only eat meat about once a week.

I'm sorry to hear that. Mine was similar, we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then at 9 weeks it had passed. It must have stopped beating right after we saw it.

I think I'm trying to rely on vitamins and nutrition more so than medicine. It's hard to believe any medicine will help when miscarriages have been an issue for so long. Might try look for a fertility cook book as I struggle with meal ideas

Hi
thanks for that, I will keep it in mind. Have down loaded it so I will listen to it later on.
I’m vegan for many years but my husband and I were total junk food vegans! I was never happy about this so this new diet has been so good for us both and we’ve cut out most processed food, reduced gluten and sugar a lot and seriously upped our fruit and veg intake! Annoyingly though, It’s not helping me to shift the 1&1/2 stones I wish to lose! So I’m wondering about doing vegan keto? Not sure how important a good diet is compared with being slightly over weight?

Yes it’s been a truly eye opening and heart breaking experience. I had a missed miscarriage last October (baby had died at 6 weeks and I had no idea) and we were both just devastated.
Miscarriage has taken me to lows that I didn’t know I would be able to come back up from but somehow, I have. Exploring nutrition and vitamins as a preventative has given me hope and helped me get through.

trinity198 · 25/04/2022 12:25

@Fightingbackwithhappiness yes I've heard a lot about B6 and am taking that as well.

The book is great. There's a lot of chapters about using plastics in the home and the types of toiletry products we use which could have an impact. I understand where they are coming from but have chosen to leave that but as it seems a bit far fetched. But the other chapters are great and explain things clearly for anyone who doesn't come from a medical background.

I've heard the Mediterranean diet is great for recurrent miscarriage, it's just difficult if you're also doing gluten free and cutting out dairy and sugar too!

It really is an awful journey and so much harder than I ever imagined. I really hope is and anyone else going through it gets there eventually. I hate to think of anyone experiencing this pain

Hi @trinity198
I'm in the exact same boat as you and I’ve been on a health kick since January before we start trying again. I’ve just been reading about the wonders of B6 and B3 for helping prevent miscarriage. I’m very interested in the book you mentioned so I’m going off to buy it just now! I would be very glad to hear of any other ideas you may have also. It’s been a hard journey but I’m sure you will understand all about that

trinity198 · 25/04/2022 11:33

@Angrymum22 thanks for replying with your story. It's great to hear of other peoples success stories. Was it just the progesterone which you did differently?

Sounds like PCOS sends hormones out of whack, just trying to do everything I can to restore my body 🤞

Angrymum22 · 25/04/2022 11:08

should read dodgy pituitary

Angrymum22 · 25/04/2022 11:07

It worked for me. The result is now a strapping 6’3” grumpy teenager.
I had multiple miscarriages, mainly chemical pregnancies but two made it to 6weeks.
I had endometriosis and secondary PCOs ( I have a soft pituitary which puts all my hormones out of sync).

trinity198 · 25/04/2022 11:03

@Hana89 I agree, sugar cravings are the hardest to deal with! I'm just getting back on the wagon after a bad week food wise. Just want the tww to be over, it's the worst part of the month. Just wanna find out if I'm pregnant or not and move on 😂

OP posts:
Hana89 · 25/04/2022 09:36

@trinity198 That is so good! I really struggle with sugar cravings and over Easter I've really taken two steps back so I am trying to get back on the waggon! I'm also trying to increase my calorie intake a bit, but with the right sort of food - lots of lean protein! I so hope it works out for us!

@SophieSoSo This is so wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing your good news :)

trinity198 · 21/04/2022 19:42
