Hey guys first time poster here!

TTC cycle #2 and want to try the SMEP but have a few questions:

 1. Does it matter what time of day you BD?
 2. Do you have to start on day 8 or could i start on day 10 and it still be effective? I usually get my peak ovulation on day 17.
 3. Any success stories anyone can share?!

Hello ladies.
How is everyone doing?

I'm now 6DPO and I have absolutely no signs apart from I had loads of Creamy CM yesterday (sorry TMI)
I had blood tests last week as we have been trying for a while now.. All came back totally fine which is good and frustrating at the same time 🙈

Roll on next week... I hate the waiting game.x

Putlebebeinme · 02/02/2022 16:56

Sweet christ @Catmom21 you have been through the ringer. I'm so sorry you had to go through miscarriage that must have been so tough 😞

I am liking the sound of your strange glow though, hopefully this is it for you! Everything crossed. HCG doubles every two days so test again morning of 16dpo and see where you are. Don't compare tomorrow to today go for the day after.

Keep us posted!

Catmom21 · 02/02/2022 16:18

I had no idea what SMEP is until I read this thread. Sharing my story as We have been ttc for a year after 2 mc but no luck. I’ve been using clearblue ovulation kit but only added to my stress.

In December I visit a gynea who suggested to scan near my “approx” ovulation date to check status of the egg. She also told to not have sex 3-4 days before this scan. Also got me on chlomid and low dose aspirin.

Met her on cd 12 where she showed me enlarged egg in left ovary, upon measuring the egg, doc mentioned the ovulation will happen today or soon so get right to business 😬

Cd 14 I had really sharp and bad pain on left side which continued for few hours. Bad enough to take paracetamol. Cd 18 onwards, I’ve been having period like crams daily and fir most part of the day.
Took test soonish (like 8/9dpo and bfn). Told myself to get ready for AF

With daily cramps, no AF or pregnancy symptom except constant cramp, I noticed strange glow on my face which made me take the test and got faint positive on 12dpo.

Tested again on 14 dpo but it’s still quite faint so I’m not sure how fast is hcg multiplying; hopefully will test again in a week.

Putlebebeinme · 02/02/2022 15:07

Thanks @HellsBellsK wow I did not realise it went up up! Everyone on the trying for a baby reddit seem to use it so might have to put in an order on amazon!

Yogagirl18 · 02/02/2022 14:45
@Yogagirl18 I haven’t read what others have said so this may already have been mentioned, but I’ve heard that DTD earlier in the day while the sperm is more active helps. Now whether there is any truth to this I don’t know x
I’m reading different things about what time of day to DTD, it’s so confusing! Some say evening is better as you’ll be relaxed and lying down for a long period of time 🙈
I might just mix it up every day haha.

It goes up the cervix @Putlebebeinme, It comes with an applicator . I am not sure how good it is. With #1 I became pregnant first round using it and number #2 2nd cycle.
I have been using it this time since December.

Putlebebeinme · 02/02/2022 14:00

Good luck @HellsBellsK

Rooting for you this cycle. Great to see you had such quick success with it last time around.

When you're using preseed I see it's really popular but are women putting it up near their cervix before DTD or just using it externally like a traditional lube? I have been using conceive plus this cycle. Wouldn't be my favourite slip and slide but seems to do the trick!

HellsBellsK · 02/02/2022 11:27

On my 2nd baby I did SMEP, Was trying for a few months then did the SMEP and got pregnant right away, I also used pre-seed.

Trying for number 3 now. Loosely did it last cycle but didn't get pregnant.
Going to try and do it right this time along with the pre - seed and hope for the best. Cycle day 10 today so it DTD day Wink

Peonies94 · 01/02/2022 22:59

@Putlebebeinme agree about the energy to push on! No I’m beginning to loose hope tbh, especially that I have only 4 chances since I started ttc! Have started investigations now though so 🤞!

Peonies94 · 01/02/2022 22:57

@Putlebebeinme 12 months trying and been trying SMEP the whole time albeit I’ve only had 5 cycles in that time due to irregular long cycles! How about you?

Putlebebeinme · 01/02/2022 22:32

@Peonies94 nice one! I feel like when you get your peak it gives you new energy to bang on through!

How many cycles have you been trying? Is it your first SMEP?

Looking at the average time to conceive im not overly optimistic but at least hitting all the bases you have done all you can!

Peonies94 · 01/02/2022 22:03

@Putlebebeinme you’ve done really well! I am a few days behind you and managed to cover all basis this month too! Feeling really hopeful! Ovulated today, so I still have tomorrow and 2 days time to do! I also continue to DTD every other day until I know AF is approaching, as I’ve been known to have 2 peaks and really irregular cycles! After my first peak though I do relax a little and not worry too much if we miss a day and DTD every 3 days!

Putlebebeinme · 01/02/2022 22:01

@Arly90 snap we are on the 4dpo train. I feel like we have an age to wait. When are you going to test?! I am hoping to hold out to 12dpo I think Saturday 12 Feb! You got loads of session in everything crossed for you!

@Yogagirl18 I have been reading as many threads as I could get my greedy paws on, looks like the majority who ovulate later start smep later! It actually does fly in, never had so much boom pow in all my days. Walking like John Wayne here! Good luck for Day 1!

@HellsBellsK Day one down! When you think about it it's only 7 sessions. Hard to keep the spark going on a rota like that but we do what we can!! I don't know if I'll be able for it next cycle again so come on lebebes!

Come on ladies, at one point i had visions of being a jockey in Cheltenham, gotta send that sperm home hahaha oh my i have fully lost it 😅

Yogagirl18 · 01/02/2022 21:39

I’m CD7 at the moment but think I’m gonna hold off DTD until CD10.

Bet you guys are glad the Smepping over and done with 😂 keep us posted on how you’re feeling.

Arly90 · 01/02/2022 21:30

Hey. I'm currently 4DP0. According to OPK and temp I ovulated on CD 13 and DTD CD 8 9 11 and 12. We had such a busy weekend we didn't manage 13 and 14 as planned 😭 but also very aware I don't wanna make it a total chore 😂
I have period like cramps today pretty sure i had this last month too. I hate the waiting 😭 x

HellsBellsK · 01/02/2022 21:12

Ah so jealous that you are at the end of it - I'm only at the start. Cycle day 9 so DTD yesterday.

Will do it again tomorrow and so on. No positive OPK yet, hope I may get a flashing smiley tomorrow.

Might dig out some lingerie I have that hasn't seen the light of day in awhile Blush

Putlebebeinme · 01/02/2022 19:36

How are all the Smeppers getting on?

Stats for the month: finally made it to the end of SMEP cycle 1:

BD: CD8/10/12 was supposed to skip 13 but I got a positive OPK so BD for the three days CD 13/14/15 and today which was CD17 after the one day break. Technically on 4dpo today if I did in fact ovulate CD13 (ish).

Now we wait. That was a lot of bom chicka wah wah to get through. 😳

Went out to primark to pick up some lingerie before we kicked off proceedings which DH really enjoyed.

Where is everyone else in their SMEP journey? Happy Smepping to all and to all a good SMEP!

Yogagirl18 · 30/01/2022 14:59

Thank you for sharing this - really useful to know!

I've been reading bits on this thread. Just re when to start dtd. I've read on fertility forums, Google etc that if your partner doesn't have a release of sperm often that dead sperm can build up which is obviously the opposite of what we want. So starting (or telling your partner to DIY) before you think you need to isn't a bad idea.

Putlebebeinme · 29/01/2022 20:44

It's this anecdote off tryingforababy sub-reddit lots of women have happened to have a cheeseburger at 8dpo and they happened to get a bfp that month so it has become a bit of a "thing" - I am willing to try anything and I do happen to have a penchant for cheeseburgers so why not give it a go?! Grin 🍔

lakejupiter · 29/01/2022 20:28

How does the cheeseburger help @Putlebebeinme

HellsBellsK · 29/01/2022 20:19

Im on cycle day 6 so will be starting soon. Going to start my clear blue ovulation kit tomorrow and hope for the best.

DH has said tonight that he doesn't feel well.. He has 2 days to feel better Wink

@Putlebebeinme im definitely up for having a cheese burger too Grin

@Yogagirl18 I have always had a drink during my fertile week and have a 4 & 2 year old so guessing it does no harm. Enjoy yourself!

Putlebebeinme · 29/01/2022 18:02

Surprisingly optimistic, no reason to be but have hit all the key SMEP days so far. Based on EWCM I was ovulating today having got the first positive opk yesterday and by afternoon the LH stripe were fading so here's hoping.

Do you follow r/tryingforababy on reddit? There's a thing about having a cheeseburger when you're 8dpo and anecdotally a good few ladies got their BFP after having one that day so you best believe we're getting that burger on 8dpo!!

It will be really nice to be away during your ferile period, a bit of distraction! I am going to try not to test until 13dpo, having started at 5dpo last tww and symptom spotting like crazy I was sure I was about to be an octomom haha... not exactly!

I know we could probably just DTD every second day from CD8 which would probably cover all bases but I love a good plan so SMEP appealed to me! Let's hope it leads to BFPs for us all ladies Smile

Yogagirl18 · 29/01/2022 16:37

Fingers crossed this is your month Arly90! Do let us know how you get on :)

How are you feeling so far Putlebebeinme?

I’m still deciding whether to start DTD on cycle day 8 or 10. I think the earlier the better just to cover all bases!
I’m also going away during my most fertile period but hoping a drink here and there won’t hurt!
