I hear a lot of people saying they don't want September babies or August babies because the either start late or are the youngest in the class. Do people really care or would you just be happy with a baby?

I gave it no thought (bar avoiding Christmas) and my first is May. It was only on attending a private school with slightly scary parents that I realised that 75% of the class were born from September to December. There was a strong correlation between those kids and the top maths set and sports teams.

This difference became less pronounced as they went through primary school though. My second was a November birth date although you have a lot of little boys tearing around your house for an inside winter birthday party so you can't have it all...

I think a lot of people have a preference but you don’t get much choice haha! I don’t want a summer baby but would love an autumn baby.

November babies are great (I’ve got one!) it’s nice being inside with a newborn when it’s all cold outside. You don’t feel quite so guilty. Also you just buy them extra stuff in the summer anyway. Pretty sure my son gets more presents because kids with summer birthdays people tend to wait until their birthday to get them stuff, whereas mine gets heaps in summer and then birthday and Christmas. Grin

I’m trying for another autumn baby now but hasn’t happened yet!

Christmas and January aren’t great but I won’t stop trying if it hasn’t happened by that date.

I really didn’t mind but my ex is a biker so wanted a summer baby so he could have pictures of baby on the bike etc. we couldn’t of got further from a summer baby as our son was born Christmas Day 2019Xmas Smile

The first time I was pregnant I had an early Nov due date which I was really happy about from a school perspective (child age for starting and for me as a teacher). After a couple of losses, I stopped caring and ended up with July which has caused me some worry.

My second was born in April. Had I not conceived that month, I probably would have taken a break and aimed for October/ November again.

1 st time we didn’t give it any thought at all , got pregnant straight away and had a January baby . 2 nd time we actually planned because I wanted a May - July baby and had her in June . Fortunately we always conceived more or less immediately .

I have a June, August and December baby. Daughter loves having a birthday near Christmas but my August born son hates being one of the youngest at school.

Couldn't face being pregnant in summer so I'm having a March baby. This way I can spend this summer taking him out and socialise more with other mums rather than hibernating in the winter

DuesToTheDirt · 19/01/2022 20:54

We gave it no thought to conception dates whatsoever and nearly got a Christmas day baby Shock.

StrongerOrWeaker · 19/01/2022 20:54

We didn't want a January or December baby( too close to Christmas) but that was it.

Lazypuppy · 19/01/2022 20:52

We avoided months where there are already a lot of family birthdays, and avoided an august baby

faithfulbird20 · 19/01/2022 20:49

@Isonthecase did u manage to conceive that month?

@APerfectSky apart from that did the November baby get ill during that cold winter they were born?

I specifically aimed for February/March because they're middle of the year so won't find it too easy or too hard, it's light quicker when they're little so less miserable, and the 30 hours childcare kicks in asap so it's much cheaper than an April baby. Unfortunately march 2020 was not the month to aim for so best laid plans and all that...

APerfectSky · 19/01/2022 20:38

At the time I didn't care, I was just concerned about actually conceiving! But now having had 2 (one June, one end of November), I wouldn't choose the end of Nov date, only because bdays are a pain (nothing's open, or is freezing) and it's only 4 weeks before Xmas, so he has pretty much a whole year to wait until his bday, whereas the June child has a nice break halfway through the year.

But that's in hindsight, obviously at the time, I didn't really think about it. I know a lot of teachers have September babies because it works well with maternity leave (got whole of the summer hols at the end of the 9 months before needing to go back to work).
