Do you care what month you conceive in?

I hear a lot of people saying they don't want September babies or August babies because the either start late or are the youngest in the class. Do people really care or would you just be happy with a baby?

We didn't really plan this but 3 of 4 of children had due dates all in the same month with 2 of them having the same due date and the other one having a due date that as exactly a week before them so it looks like I was good at conceiving in the same week of the year 😂😂😂

PrincessSpanky · 19/01/2022 22:16

No thought to which month. Doesn't matter to us.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2022 22:15

I didn't care wirh my first two DC. It took ages to conceive the first and I caught immediately with the second so I was just happy it had happened.

I didn't really want a summer baby with DC3 so after three months of trying we took a break for October and November. A September baby felt like a good plan, I conceived in late December and got my September baby.

I know how lucky I was to be able to in some way plan it.

Rno3gfr · 19/01/2022 22:13

My child was born mid December. If possible I’d like another in the spring/summer. I can’t handle birthdays too close to Christmas. Too much planning.

mrsnw · 19/01/2022 22:13

I gave it no thought and ended up with an early December baby and an early January baby. I have two birthdays and Christmas within four weeks. I wouldn't recommend it!

Trinacham · 19/01/2022 22:10

Purposefully wanted to avoid a christmas/December baby, mainly for baby's sake. We were aiming for a February baby at the very earliest, ideally would've liked May sort of time. We'll we cocieved first try, which we didn't think would work.. so I'm due 29th Jan! 🤭

@saywhatwhatnow

After 6 years of infertility I literally couldn't have cared less what month he was born in.
Yes, this!!!!
TheCraicDealer · 19/01/2022 22:00

I was pleased with DD being due in September, I love autumn and my DT, DMum and DNeice all have birthdays around then so it felt like it was continuing a theme we have going. Obviously her being one of the eldest in the school year is nice, but she's too little to see the benefit of that now. It wasn't deliberate, I just conceived shortly after we started trying after our last-hurrah holiday.

With TTC no.2 I've had a MMC, a chemical and an ectopic since April 2020. TBH I couldn't care less now about due dates. If I was told I was having an ELCS on Christmas Day I'd be ecstatic it was even a possibility.

AnAnnouncement · 19/01/2022 21:52

God, no. Couldn't have cared less - plus, babies seem to arrive on their own schedules anyway. Being 'due' in March won't stop a baby being born in January if that's how things pan out and I wasn't going to worry about something so totally out of my control.

I also think that because it took a year each time for me to get pregnant anyway, by the time it happened I was just so thrilled that it didn't occur to me to care when the baby would be born - I was just very glad to be pregnant at all.

OnceUponAThread · 19/01/2022 21:42

I'm due July.

If I could choose, it's not the month I'd go for. Worried about them being young in school and therefore behind and also about being pregnant when it's so hot and keeping them cool in summer months when born.

But my first pregnancy was (by chance) due in Autumn which I think is ideal. sadly I miscarried.

With all the fear about whether it would happen again, it didn't cross my mind to try and time it.

MsSquiz · 19/01/2022 21:42

When we were TTC DD1, it was a running joke that we wanted to avoid a December baby as all 3 of our nephews and niece have birthdays within 10 days before Christmas! It was even joked that I would make DH sleep in the spare room so we weren't tempted. Of course DD was due 19th December and arrived on the 18th!

With DD2 I wasn't sure we would conceive at all so hadn't considered "avoiding" certain times, and she is due in April 2022

canbage · 19/01/2022 21:41

Didn't put any thought into it but could have planned it as I've been lucky enough to conceive all my dc the first time.

Mamascoven · 19/01/2022 21:40

I have June , July , December & due this March. June pregnancy was the best weather wise. July far too hot as was a heatwave in 2014. Dont really notice that my Son born in July is youngest in the class, he definitely isn't behind everyone else. My dd was born December 28th and that wasnt as stressful as I imagined although not ideal having a birthday 3 days after Christmas.. I suppose I will see how it is having a baby in March!

ladygindiva · 19/01/2022 21:38

@APerfectSky

At the time I didn't care, I was just concerned about actually conceiving! But now having had 2 (one June, one end of November), I wouldn't choose the end of Nov date, only because bdays are a pain (nothing's open, or is freezing) and it's only 4 weeks before Xmas, so he has pretty much a whole year to wait until his bday, whereas the June child has a nice break halfway through the year.

But that's in hindsight, obviously at the time, I didn't really think about it. I know a lot of teachers have September babies because it works well with maternity leave (got whole of the summer hols at the end of the 9 months before needing to go back to work).

I agree. Dc2 and 3, twins, were born early December. The long wintery rainy dark days with newborns didn't help my pnd, those first 3 months were hard. Plus its always shit weather for their birthday. Dc 1 was late May, so at the start of summer, and it was a good summer that year. Completely different being able to get out in the sunshine every day with a newborn. If I was trying for a 4th ( I'm not) I would be trying to engineer it for April to June time.
Runnerduck34 · 19/01/2022 21:34

Didnt think about it at the time but DS was at a definite disadvantage being a July baby.
DD was September she had a big advantage education wise, maybe could have gone sooner but she loved nursery so not really an issue.
Other DD is Easter and that was just about right.
Ultimately even if you do think about it and try and plan still no guarantees when you will conceive unless you stop trying if birthday will fall in July/August and tbf a friend who is a teacher did exactly that!!

CheesecakeHeaven · 19/01/2022 21:30

Ideally I never wanted an August or December baby but after taking a while to conceive and then a miscarriage I just wanted a baby. Just gave birth two days before Christmas.

Yummymummy2020 · 19/01/2022 21:30

I didn’t think about it with mine, I was under the impression also that we would get pregnant immediately as I had been trying to prevent it for all my younger years and assumed it was easy to happen. No such luck😂 so I think in reality for many it would be hard to plan because it might not happen to your own diary preferences!

Hairyfriend · 19/01/2022 21:27

I used to avoid conceiving if it meant a Dec baby. After 10yrs TTC, 3 losses, 2 rounds of IVF and no cause for sub fertility found, every month TTC is precious.

saywhatwhatnow · 19/01/2022 21:27

MotherOfCrocodiles · 19/01/2022 21:25

I wanted spring babies and got them. Lovely newborn period, lovely birthday weAther, not too close to Christmas. If I hadn't conceived quickly I would obviously have been ok with summer or autumn babies though!

BoatisBoatShirley · 19/01/2022 21:25

Initially I was aiming to had #2 some time between September - December so that they would be one of the older ones in the class. In the end it took us ages though so I was just delighted to finally get pregnant, and perfectly happy with my summer baby.

I now have one winter child and one summer one. The winter one benefits from being one of the older ones in the class, but birthday close to Christmas is a pain. The summer one will always be the baby of the class but has their presents nicely spaced out throughout the year.

There’s pros & cons to everything, just enjoy your baby whenever they arrive.

@Lemongrass9

The only month I wanted to avoid having baby was September as that’s often the busiest time of year for maternity wards.

Obviously I ended up actually having a September baby as I got pregnant the month we weren’t trying but to be honest I was just grateful to be having a baby when I found out I was pregnant.

I was right about the busy thing though as when I was in labour I had to wait over an hour in a tiny room with no pain relief before being examined - I was 7cm. Can’t fault the care I received at all, they were doing all they could and I ended up having a very positive birth overall but that situation was exactly what I was hoping to avoid.

If it helps, when I had mine in November they said it was the business month and those coming in after me were being diverted to other hospitals 🤦🏻‍♀️ Apparently it’s busy all year but Christmas is the quietest!

Summer worries me for SIDS and keeping them cool. 2-4 months is most vulnerable age so actually autumn baby is best in that sense! As they’ll be the oldest they can be by summer.

Minniem2020 · 19/01/2022 21:16

I didn't put any thought into it at all and I have a July, March and I'm due this one in April. July is nice for birthdays as it's the school hols, nice weather so more options on activities. Probably should have planned March better as we have loads of family birthdays Feb/March. In terms of being pregnant the July was a bit harder being so big when it was really hot but then nice getting up for night feeds and not being freezing!
