Suddenly pregnant - a silver lining for my grieving parents

Very sadly my younger brother suddenly and unexpectedly died around this time last year. Almost to the day of the first anniversary my dh and I have found out that we are expecting our first child (I'm 37). When we received confirmation - on Christmas Eve eve - dh said, almost instantly, "now we have a really special gift to give your parents" (they didn't want any, too sad as they were to 'celebrate').

I am so very very excited for us and for them. I feel like I am staring in what feels like a modern day Christmas miracle. Of course my parents are still sad, but there is happiness now that I have never before seen in either of them.

This is one of the most special moments of my life.

Congratulations - a baby is such a joy in a family and I am sure many times over the next few years the room will light up with joy and hope for you all - from juniors antics - just when you all need a little boost ! This baby was meant to be xxxxxxxxx
Lovely Xmas present for you all .
PLEASE come back and let us know how it all goes xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

congrats bea, I hope all goes well for you. I conceived my DS after many years of trying, just after my mother died. It is extraordinarily special, like you have been sent a present from your brother. Well that is how I see my DS as a present from my mother. I wish you everything.

What a lovely post, bea0001, and many congratulations on your pregnancy . I'm sure you are right that it will give your parents an enormous lift after such a very terrible loss. Take care.

DarrellRivers · 28/12/2007 14:19

Congratulations to you and also thinking of your parents in this time.
My younger brother died suddenly in the summer and so can imagine what your family has been going through.
May you enjoy the hope and promise the new life brings.

Hulababy · 28/12/2007 14:17

COngratulations. Life always does, really does, go on, but it's so good to have an immediate actual reminder of the fact. Best of luck for a nice puke-free pregnancy, an easy birth and happy parenthood

May your new baby bring joy and healing to you all.

iwantacoolchristmasnickname · 27/12/2007 23:24

what a lovely christmas story bea,

congrats to all your family on your wonderful news..

I, too, believe your brother must be sharing your joy.

Bea0001 · 27/12/2007 22:22

NAB3, and deb, mibbes and blanki, now it is I who struggle to find the words: your, and everyone else's thoughts here, are just SO touching; their sincerity and their realness - even though we've only just 'met' - adds to the sense of connection to, as I said before, great women.

I feel so, well, blessed! And even as I type this I can feel my brother looking on, smiling.

Sorry for your loss. Wishing you all (esp you) health and happiness for the new year!

mibbes · 27/12/2007 16:18

what a fabulous and uplifting story - makes me feel so grateful for what I have. Even though no BFP yet I have so many other blessings to count - thank you for sharing and all the best with your pregnancy. From my family's experience I know that a baby can be a Godsend at times of sadness

debinaustria · 27/12/2007 16:09

Bea - I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes - what a fantastic Christmas present, I wish you an easy and trouble free pregnancy, and give our best wishes to your parents.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 27/12/2007 15:59

I really wanted to post this last time but couldn't think how to word it. I'm still not sure but with your Mum joining in here, I would like to say how lovely it could be to use your brothers name somewhere with your new baby.

Bea0001 · 26/12/2007 23:31

Hello again,

Just to let you I'm going to let my Mum know of the generosity of spirit I have received from you all - it will make her too feel supported.
