Here we go! Thread 14 for the nicest bunch of women on Mumsnet

Thread 13 was very joyful and very painful for me, but what it has shown me is that even old warhorses like me can get lucky, so there's no excuse for all you nubile young honies not to deliver the goods! Come on now, Mama Hester expects you to do your duty by your fellow ttc-ers

Get ready now, 1 - 2 - 3, GO!!!

I onceived ds2 while still b'feeding ds1 & had no periods in between I had nearly 3 years with periods - was great. I doubt the feeding at night is the isssue really, more how much in the 24 hours but I'm not an expert.

person is an electronic device which monitors your cycle & tells you when you're ovulating. You pee on 8 sticks a month & the machine measures the level of hormones. You can't use it till the 3rd clear cycle after pregnancy/hormonal contraception/miscarriage/ breastfeeding - basically anything that has big impact on your hormones.

dh just mailed me his itinery, slap bang when i should ovulate & I can't even tell him, might just try to b/d as much as poss b4 he goes & hope 4 the best, nowt else to be done really.

Amyone here in Kent btw?

Hula - I haven't posted on the ttc threads for ages as am so fed up with it all (been trying for 6 months now) but I still lurk and your post struck such a cord. It's Sh** isn't it - that waiting with AF cramps - you just think GET ON WITH IT!

cockenzie · 30/11/2004 16:58

Hi geordie

HOw do you mean when say bf just means you ovulate later in your cycle?

geordie · 30/11/2004 16:34

I am still bf my 9.5 month old...he just feeds at breakfast and bedtime now...not interested during the day!

I have regular cycles and the bf seems to just mean that I ovulate later in my cycle.....

Like evryone else I'm feeling a little impatient at the mo!

I know you're not sure this cycle Hula- but I really hope that af being late is a good sign.....

cockenzie · 30/11/2004 16:33

What is persona?

yingers74 · 30/11/2004 15:48

hula, i know! i was so sure i was pregnant last month, ho hum

Sallie · 30/11/2004 15:46

cockenzie, hello and welcome!
I had similar issues when ttc no2 - I stopped bf ds at 4/5 months as I was returning to work. It took us 5 months after that to conceive dd and my cycles were all over the place too. I waited 3 months after finishing bf and then started persona which really helped. But I guess you probably want to carry on bf don't you? Its tricky as you can get pg when bf but it does muck your system up a bit (well it did mine anyway!). Best of luck..... I can relate to the impatience really well (as can everyone on here!). I am now ttc no 3 and had a mc back in Sept. Finished bf dd in July and my cycles are still a little erratic although they are settling down and am using persona again. Everyone is different....hth

cockenzie · 30/11/2004 15:42

Thanks ernest

I breastfeed about 4 times during the day.she is growing out of it at night

I read somewhere, but a lot of people say its not true, that if you b/feed at night it stops you from ovulating? because of the level of the hormone prolactin? is that so?

ernest · 30/11/2004 15:38

hi cockenzie. you can't use persona, which a lot of us are using (or waiting to use), don't know about opk's as never used. you could try taking you temp every morning - see fertinilty friend or similar for instructions, but I guess the easiest if to keep an eye on your cervical mucus - cm. When it's creamy it's not fertile, when you're getting more fertile it becomes more runny & slippery & at ovulation it's like egg white - hence references to ewcm. I'm no expert but hth. btw how much are you b/feeding? good luck & welcome

Hulababy · 30/11/2004 15:35

AF seems to be taking its time to arrive today. have had cramping on and off yesterday and today, and tummy feels a bit tender, but nothing as yet. Why is nature so mean? Why can't AF just arrive, without all the dragged on warning symptoms?

yingers74 · 30/11/2004 15:25

cockenzie - c'est la vie, i guess. I have to fight myself every month not to use those early pregnancy tests! Last month I went through about 5. Good luck and hope you, me and everyone here will get that special xmas news!

cockenzie · 30/11/2004 15:22

Hi everyone

I am sorry, i just realised that there have been a whole hip of messages on the subject and i feel i am just barging in.I am sorry if my message may have sounded rude.
I guess we all are really too keen on having a special xmas present and why is it that when you really want something sometimes you just cant get it?

cockenzie · 30/11/2004 15:09

Hi there
I am new .I have my 9.5 months old still breastfeeding
We are trying to conceive no 2 but.....oh dear i dont know , its taking time.. just me being impatient as usual
How do you know when you are about to ovulate when your cycles are irregular? any telltale signs?

I used to be dead on 28 days. i started 5 months ago on a 34 days, and 31 days, 32 days, now 30 days. so , guess its slowly regulating. how do you work out an ovulating time/date?

Please help

mariella · 30/11/2004 12:29

oops, earnest, thanks very much for your thoughts. def too early for implant bleeding . I don't know about ovulating - I've never had any bleeding at ovulation before (and how are you meant to bd with this going on?!?!?!). it isn't spotting btw, it is proper, tampax every 2 hours stuff (TMI, sorry). it is the right time for ovulation though. did you have really short cycles after mirena earnest? I mean when you say you were all over the place - do you mean like this? I don't know, its very odd. has anyone else had this?

Mariella, sorry about af - don't want to sound stupid, but it's def. af/ too early for it to be a light implant bleed really. All I can say is that after I had mirena removed I was all over the place for about 3 months, but it is especially frustrating that you've had a couple of normalish cycles. My experience is that Mirena messes you up (when you've had it removed) more than they let on. I was basically told, as the hormones were such low doses & localised, that there'd not be much reaction & that it was easy to get pg straight away, but this was not what happened with me. Hope your body calms down soon.

Btw, i had mine taken out mid October & was pg mid Feb & had beautiful ds mid November

Tania, I haven't but my best friend has had this done. She was told she was v. likely to get pg straight after it. When r you having it done? Best wishes for you & hope it works keeping everything crossed. xxx

mariella · 30/11/2004 11:25

OK girls, I need some HELP and ADVICE!

My AF has just started.... on what would have been day 15 . Just when dh and I were really getting into the swing of bding!!!!! WHAT IS GOING ON?!
I have always always had cycles of 28-30 days, like clockwork. Had Mirena taken out mid Oct, had AF 2 days later, AF 30 days after that, and now AF 14 days later. Why would it do that? I can't have had time to ovulate, I don't know what is going on. Any ideas????

No xmas baby for me, then! Serves me right for saying that next month would be better than this

Tania2 · 30/11/2004 10:03

Oh Hester lets hope this is your month i really feel good about this for you they do say that you are the most fertile after being pg. Best of luck to you.
I had no signs of ov this month and struggled to bd at all and now iam feeling really depressed about it cause i know af will show up and that is another month gone by.
Has anyone had a laperoscapy and curet (sp?) and fallen pg not long after??? gyno says that iam having it done at the right time of my cycle. 1 week after my af is due so once the bleeding has stopped if i get straight into the bd i could very poss fall pg. Iam a little worried that i may bleed for too long and miss my ov day iykwim.

hester · 30/11/2004 09:42

Ooh Hula... doesn't sound good but you never know (remember my, 'I know I am definitely not pg' protestations, just before I was? I am never trusting my body again!).

Tania - I'm feeling loads better today, thanks. Reason is - I seem to be ovulating! VERY happy that it didn't skip a month, though very aware that I have convinced myself I will get pg again instantly, as a consolation prize. Wish me luck!

Oops - thank you for remembering that I am first in queue for your super-fertile dh. If anyone tries to nick him, be warned; I'll make the first day at the Harrods sale look like a vicarage tea party

Jeddah - yes yes yes, oops is about my favourite person in the world this morning! Obviously she is some kind of uber-fertile goddess, and not comparable to us mere mortals, but I'm hoping that mere cyber-proximity to her may rub off on us! And thanks so much about the uterus thingy - I was so expecting to be a freak, and am delighted to be normal! I'm growing rather fond of my womb; when I had an HSG they told me it was lovely and glossy and a rather fine specimen and I now see it as the Julia Roberts of uteri Let's hope it's functional as well as decorative....

Btw, where is Shely?

Hulababy · 30/11/2004 08:54

CD29 today so AF due any minute really. Have had some mild cramping and feeling groggy so suepect it shouldn't be long. Messed up my temps this morning too so that doesn't help me.

Tania2 · 30/11/2004 04:39

Hester hope your feeling better today.
Sweetfudge Best of luck with this insemination really hope it works this time. Shit it sounds so frustrating.
Can i ask a personal question why do you have to do it that way does you dh have an extreamly low count???? And is the donor a stranger or a friend??? you dont have to answer.
BeckiF sorry you are feeling so down, angry and frustrated with everyone but regardles of how long we have been ttc or if we have a child/en already we are all here for each other and are all frustrated as each other. Hay i didnt ov this month either and now i have to deal with 2 of my friends having their babies in the next couple of weeks and put on a brave face while going through an operation on the 15th of December.

greenbug · 30/11/2004 00:23
