Also joining! I’ve been reading this - and the other running threads - on ttc post 40.
min 43 and after much back and forth, we’ve decided to try for 9 months to try and ttc #2. We already have a 3yo DD.
we are generally healthy, good diets etc. but my drinking has crept up of late (OH barely drinks), so plan to cut that down to almost nothing. Eating healthily, keeping active, taking vit d, coq10, and a good pre natal. Trying some mindfulness and following a few people on insta who promote positive thinking for the over 40s🤷‍♀️
The longer time passes the more DH is thinking out triangle is perfect for us - but happy to try and said said if a #2 happened he’d be thrilled (so it’s very much me driving this…NB he’s a superb and very hands on father, so that’s not an issue). His main concern is risks associated with pregnancy/birth at my age - he’s petrified!

anyway, wishing everyone lots of baby dust!

MintUmbrella · 12/07/2022 08:04

Hey all, joining this thread as just starting to TTC #1 at 41. DH is 47. I had health problems and was on medication that’s actively harmful in pregnancy, so it wasn’t possible to try sooner and we didn’t ever expect that to change - but it has and I’m really hoping it’s not too late for us!

If we have difficulty conceiving are we able to get any help from the GP at all at this age?

Holls81 · 11/07/2022 21:37

@Anthurium thank you for that. I’ve looked up clinics local to me 😊

Thank goodness for this group. Feeling a little deflated this month after af appeared and I find this group a great comfort as I know you guys understand.
just seems like everyone around me is having babies!
Trying to keep positive and be the healthiest I can be and keep trying.
I know you can’t get an Amh test on nhs.
if anyone has had one, how did you go about it please?

@Holls81

Yes you can get the AMH test alone, I believe it's under £100 at most fertility clinics. The reason it isn't offered on the NHS is because it is used as part of IVF protocols and how likely you're to respond to the IVF medication (I did IVF and was explained this by my consultant).

JA42 · 27/06/2022 11:19

Hi @Holls81 sorry to hear that 😔.I know what you mean about everyone having babies at the moment, it’s the same here. I had my Amh levels tested a couple of weeks ago, it was a blood test we had done as part of a fertility assessment at a fertility clinic. We paid £595 for the couples assessment but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the Amh test on there price list separately.

Great to see someone in the same boat and taking a calm and natural approach. I wish you good luck!

DizzyM43 · 21/06/2022 22:17

Hi there welcome to the group, Thats exactly what I'm doing and I'm 43 as well, we haven't tried IVF but had 2 missed miscarriages, so now we are taking more supplements and just hoping for the best but without stressing over it which didn't help. Wish you and everyone the best of luck and hopefully it will happen soon for some of us xx

HWT · 21/06/2022 07:12

Hi Everyone,

I've been following this thread for a while and wanted to share my experience after a round of IVF didn't work for me at the end of last year and we have decided to focus on making it happen naturally as less traumatic - I didn't cope mentally when it didn't work and no frozen embryos so reluctant to fund something so stressful when the odds are quite low. So we're giving it our best shot and in absolutely believe we will succeed with time!

I have gone down the nutritionist route and have had some bloods, vaginal micro biome and stool tests done via working with her which I've thrown out some really interesting markers which has given us something to work on. The idea being that the environment has to be in balance for you to be successful.

Also using supplements - pure ubiquinol rather than coq-10, a thyroid supplement and a liver one along with a high strength vitamin D being the main ones. The NHS said my vitamin D was fine at 66 but she has told me to aim for 90-100.

I've also bought the book by Rosanne Austin to work on my positive mindset.

I think it's great this group exists and would love to hear some positive stories about people achieving success particularly if 43 or over.

Good luck everyone!

If you leave tests too long they can show false positive results. If no line shows up after the time specified then it will mean you’re not pregnant.

Holls81 · 20/06/2022 19:07

Hi all. Do you think this looks like an evap line or a faint positive?
it didn’t come up immediately (it was about half hour later) which made me think maybe an evap line but then I read something to say that evap lines are usually colourless and not as thick as the other line 🤔
Your thoughts please! X

Just quick update, another unsuccessful cycle, a lot of tears.
still waiting for gp response to our constant requests for some help with fertility.
partner def has low sperm count and I’m 41, first time trying to concieve, think we are onto our 6th cycle now, considering IUI and maybe also sperm retrieval but it’s so expensive.

winterfox78 · 11/06/2022 12:27

@CateyA hey just wanted to see how you are going.
I'm also 43 and Ttc number 2.

Trying for the second nearly two years now. There’s still a hope, but fading.. turned 42.

pitterypattery00 · 09/06/2022 12:14

@Cofefefe I conceived my son at age 40 after 12 cycles of trying so stay positive!

After trying for 6 months I discovered via GP blood test that I had an underactive thyroid (if I remember correctly TSH should ideally be under 3 to conceive and mine was over 5). So who knows, that may have played a bigger role in the time taken to conceive than my age 🤷‍♀️. Worth getting it checked anyway if you haven't already - underactive thyroid is a common thing to have and easily treated.

DizzyM43 · 09/06/2022 12:02

Just catching up on reading posts 😊

I'm taking Ubiquinone just a diff version of coq 10 and still absorbs quicker then the co q 10, I'm taking 300mg am and lunchtime along with other bits and pieces and also read it starts with egg, currently have covid so out this month, not the positive test I was hoping for, I'm 43 and my hormones appear to be all over the place. Do any of you know anything I can do to help regulate them?

Mel

Cofefefe · 09/06/2022 11:06

I'm 40 and trying for my first. Reading online people's experiences it seems to be that it's harder to conceive a first baby over 40 than it is second plus babies. I'm not very hopeful about my chances to be honest. I'm just heading into cycle 5 now.

JA42 · 08/06/2022 21:04

Hi all
@Holls81 I have been taking 200ml of ubiquinol per day for the last couple of months and on cycle six now.
Im reading a book called it started with an egg and there is some useful info in there about supplements, not sure if it works but thought I would give it a go, can’t do any harm 🤷‍♀️.
I am also using the cheapies opk and clear blue opk which seem to work well so far.
@CateyA I think there is still a chance at 43, I’ve read a few posts of it happening successfully at 44
I was advised to have a thyroid function check, so I’ve found a company online who send you the test kit to do it at home which I thought was easier than going to the gp at the moment and the results should be here in a couple of days, just hopefully to rule it out 🤞
I feel very very lucky to have fallen pregnant at 37 & 39 with my two with no issues and it happened the 1st and 2nd time of ttc.
fingers crossed for us all and good luck 🤞

Perexi · 08/06/2022 18:22

Hi I'm 40 and we've decided to try for our first, slightly concerned we left it too late tbh but here goes! It's our first cycle of trying so fingers crossed!

CateyA · 08/06/2022 17:51

That should say ‘hasn’t delayed me before’

CateyA · 08/06/2022 17:49

Hey other over 40s
i know this is possibly a bit of a desperate post but I think I’m looking for hope or at least a gentle let down!

we’re not officially ttc but have one child and would welcome another. We dtd on ovulation day according to my app. I’m now CD34 and no sign of period. I’ve taken two tests which have been negative. I think I’m grasping at straws but - I had spotting 11 days post ovulation. symptom wise now I’m very bloated (much more than usual pmt) and my cervix seems high. I can’t tell if I’m fatigued as my little one not sleeping well so tbh I’m always tired!

I’m still breastfeeding my toddler and obviously he was home and wanted to feed more over the bank hol weekend than usual but no more than he does if he’s poorly etc and it’s It delayed me before. My cycles are averaging 26 days usually sometimes up to 30.

someone help my sanity am I just hitting menopause or could there be a chance?

be kind as I feel like this is my last chance due to my age (43)

Holls81 · 08/06/2022 17:19

Has anyone taken ubiquinol? I’m confused as to how much to take!

DizzyM43 · 08/06/2022 16:18

Hey there,

I'm using clear blue opk as wasn't getting peak with the cheapies and I am now, still trying. Good luck to all xxx
