@Iusedtobedontcall sorry to hear about your journey that sounds very difficult. Sending you baby dust xxx

Iusedtobedontcall · 12/03/2023 15:10

I had a MMC in July and then sadly had to TFMR due to Down syndrome in mid February. I’m 42. Both spontaneous conceptions so I’m trying again. I think egg quality is my issue.

Dragon82 · 12/03/2023 07:25

Really sorry to hear about your miscarriage in January. I had two missed miscarriages last year, one in April and one in July (spontaneous conception). I got pregnant immediately after April miscarriage. I turned 40 last September. Miscarriage can be a very isolating place to be as I’m the last of my friends trying to get pregnant so they are not in the same place as me. it’s a difficult choice but if it were me, I think I would go for IVF. I had my son at 38 (after 16 months TTC) so I’m very lucky but I think that also means I’m not eligible for NHS IVF. So we are trying again for spontaneous conception but it’s been 7 months and nothing is happening yet. I guess a factor is how long it takes you to conceive. Sending you lots of baby dust

Fod80 · 12/03/2023 03:37

Just wondering if there have been any successes since January on this group. I was due to begin IVF in Jan but got an early BFP (spontaneous conception) a few days before. Should be 9 weeks but found out last week that baby stopped growing at 6 so waiting for medical management next week. Really torn though about whether to try again naturally, or go for IVF as soon as we can after the miscarriage. At 42, with low egg reserve, it doesn't feel like I have the time left to recoup properly, unfortunately...

LAURAPAX · 27/01/2023 18:45

So sorry @jalu47 my thoughts are with you. Twice for me too and it is absolutely awful 💔 sending love x

BritishDesiGirl · 27/01/2023 13:12

Has anyone here tried mysitol and folic acid combined

Dragon82 · 27/01/2023 12:20

@jalu47 so sorry to hear this. Completely understand you stepping away. The medical condition must make things much more complex for you on top of the heart ache. Please try to take time for yourself and be kind to yourself. This has happened to me twice and to so many women. You are not alone x

jalu47 · 27/01/2023 11:39

@Dragon82 it wasn't good news unfortunately, no growth in the last week so now waiting for it to pass. I'm devastated but not shocked at the outcome.

They are having to check about medical management and certain medications due to problems I have with my liver. Hopefully it'll all be over soon.

Think I'll be stepping away from this group for a little bit x

circleinthesands · 27/01/2023 11:07

Just checking in see how everyone is going...I think I'm out again this cycle....AF should be showing up in 2 days like clockwork 😩
I'm wondering if I should get a pelvic ultrasound.
I had one at 39 just before conceiving DD1...and it showed everything was normal...
Could something have changed...

Dragon82 · 27/01/2023 07:34

@jalu47 I know you might not want to share, but hope scan went well and everything is ok. If not, sending all the love, I’ve been there twice. You will get through this.

Fod80 · 26/01/2023 22:08

That sounds so traumatic but I'm so glad you got such lovely Christmas news! Wishing you all the best!

Iusedtobedontcall · 26/01/2023 18:22

I had an accidental pregnancy in May which ended in July in a MMC. I persuaded DH to try again and it took a couple of months for my cycles to return to normal after the MMC.

Then I got the positive test on Boxing Day. I feel very lucky.

Very sick also, but very lucky. I was terrified going into the scan because that’s where I found out things hadn’t progressed last time.

Fod80 · 26/01/2023 18:18

That is lovely news! Were you trying for long?

Iusedtobedontcall · 26/01/2023 16:38

I am 42 and will be 43 when baby is born. I’ve just had a scan showing an 8 week 3 day foetus with a lovely strong heartbeat. There is definitely hope over 40!

Holls81 · 23/01/2023 13:21

Thank you ladies. Xx

Fod80 · 23/01/2023 12:34

@circleinthesands I tries the clear blue advance a couple of cycles ago. The issue I had with them is the No of error messages. Out of a pack of 10, I think I got three errors and when I finally got a smiley face (indicating start of the peak - but the “flashing smiley face” is the one you want as that shows peak fertility) the machine broke!
i have real problems reading the cheap OPKs. I get a surge on a couple of days at certain times but also negative results at other times on the same days so v confusing!
Maybe give them a try for a cycle but keep your others as backup (I’d run out so it all became really stressful that month!)

Holls81 · 23/01/2023 07:27

Hi.

I’m 43 and hubby and I have been trying for 14 months.

21 day blood checks and thyroid came back fine, his swimmers are all good, sex every 2/3 days (more in middle
Of cycle) periods super regular, using opk’s and fertility cup and still, as yet, not a single positive test in over a year.

Anyone else have this experience and still fall pregnant eventually?

I’m so confused… am I not actually ovulating (even though doc says bloods indicate that I am) or is there something else wrong?

Have you had day 3 bloods taken? That’s when they can check your baseline estradiol, FSH and AMH. Apparently, that will give you a good idea of your ovarian reserve and how hard your body is having to push on the accelerator to produce an egg each month. Like @lizziecat1 said, when you start to get to the end of the reserve (standard at our age), the quality of the eggs drop massively and most will not fertilize or implant.
Im in the same boat as you - 42 and TTC (DC2). I had no problem at 39 but my reserve is now low.
All is now completely lost though - my grandma had my dad at 45… completely unplanned, so it does happen!
IUI might also help boost your chances a bit and IVF… my fertility doctor said that when you get to 42-44ish the success rate of both procedures starts to even out (at around 10% or so) - slightly higher with IVF as you can test the embryo

Holls81 · 23/01/2023 11:58

@circleinthesands
its my 3rd. Other 2 (and one miscarriage at 10weeks between them) all conceived 1st month of trying. (Youngest is 4)
cycles are 28 days. Using opk from day 7 each time. Hope this is right.

@lizziecat1 thank you for your reply. That’s actually made me feel a lot better. It’s so easy to get so bogged down with every little thing it could possibly be by googling all the time!

circleinthesands · 23/01/2023 11:34

@Holls81 is this your first?

How long are your cycles and when do you start using OPK's from?

Could you try DTD every day if possible for around your most fertile days?

GingerFox2021 · 23/01/2023 11:19

I have done my blood tests and all is good apart of very low AMH which I kind of expected, so not surprised i am not getting pregnant in the last 2 years or so. But it’s depressing.
I’m 42, trying for number 2.

circleinthesands · 23/01/2023 10:07

Please someone lurking 👀😆...who has had a baby at 44 tell me it's possible!

TTC number 2 for 12 months. DD1 is now 4. Conceived in 7 months but I was 39 then!

Anyone had success with Clearblue digital s? Are they accurate or so they make you miss it by a day??
X

lizziecat1 · 23/01/2023 07:50

@Holls81 Welcome to the group!
Those are good results!
I'm 45. My understanding, from discussion with my GP (and too much googling) is that the overwhelming issue with fertility at our age is egg quality. Eggs that have been waiting in ovaries for 40+ years have often developed genetic flaws.
Sounds like you are cycling normally, and probably ovulating, but if the developing egg for that month is an imperfect one, it may not be possible for it to be fertilised and form an embryo. Or it gets fertilised but fails to implant.
It's a game of odds - we probably still have some perfect, healthy eggs - just less of them than when we were in our 20s. So each month, the chance of a perfect egg, and pregnancy, are less than they were when we were younger.

@jalu47 sorry to hear about your health journey, that on top of TTC/early pregnancy must be a lot. I’ve got my best wishes that your bean is well and next weeks scan is good. God what a long week waiting, after your first week of waiting. I know what you mean about family not being complete. My sisters had her second baby and my son is besotted with the baby. Makes me happy and sad at the same time. This journey is a lot, but we are all strong. But it’s ok to lose it sometimes I know I do on a monthly basis xxx

jalu47 · 19/01/2023 16:43

Just an update from me - I had another scan today, slight progress in that an embryo can now be visualised but no heartbeat and I'm still VERY behind where I should be. I have another scan in a week and I think that will be the definitive one. This is going to be such a long week....

Stay strong @Dragon82 - it seems we are very similar. I had my first at 38, a little boy who is also just two, and I just feel our family won't be complete without one more. However, I do have some significant health concerns and feel that if this pregnancy doesn't work out it would actually be really silly to try again as some of my treatment is actually on hold at the moment - it kind of feels like my last chance.
