Anyone fancy starting an ongoing thread for those who are having IVF/ are planning to try again via IVF soon?

Ds was conceived via IVF - he's now 2.6 and we're stepping back on the scary rollercoaster ride with a FET - I started taking the drugs yesterday!

OAP Good luck for tomorrow - I will be thinking of you. I am hoping all the follicles contain eggs and that those eggs fertilise. At the moment we don't know exactly why we haven't concieved naturally, so the problem might be with fertilisation. The clinic keep saying things lke 'the first round is very diagnostic' which is worrying me.
sooty From what OAP says I'm feeling very positive for you Am really praying for some good news for this thread.
soosy Good luck for Fri - will be thinking of you too, get the 2ww room all nice and cosy for me won't you?

sootykalucy · 28/05/2008 14:59

sorry meant soosy - easy mistake, another mysterious link?

sootykalucy · 28/05/2008 14:59

sooty we must be pyschic!

sootykalucy · 28/05/2008 14:58

thanks onlyaphase I am hoping to the cramps are a positive sign - as it has never occurred before. But right now, on Day Twelve since EC I am starting to get very nervous . . think next trashy movie off the rank to take my mind off it will be 'Sex In the City'. Good luck with your scan tommorrow

soosy · 28/05/2008 14:58

Oh OAP you are on your way as well - hope all goes well tomorrow.

Still waiting to hear about transfer time on friday, i do hate the way they keep you waiting, do they have no idea how much waiting I have done and how fed up it makes me!!!!

Nomore all set to go tomorrow, good luck.

Sooty, it's Sex and the City tonight, i am going with some girlfriends.

Sx

Onlyaphase · 28/05/2008 14:37

Sooty - read your post about the severe cramping and it rang lots of bells for me. First IVF we did, I had the most dreadful pain in the middle of the night about 9 days after EC, it woke me up it was so bad. And it was definately a positive sign, the result is bothering me to get of the PC now and go and PLAY MUMMY NOW. Hope things work out for you too

NMM - have severe follicle envy, am very impressed with your crop. I only ever seem to manage a few on each side, maybe 6 collected in total each time.

Right, have lots to do before driving down to Essex tonight for baseline scan tomorrow. My period only really started today though so I hope everying is as it should be tomorrow.

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 23:27

It's finally 11.30 (well it will be by the time I've fed the cats) so I'm off now! night night x

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 22:18

make sure you leave the 2ww room with lots of chocolate and cups of tea for us then

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 22:17

DH is snoring on the sofa right now - so much for staying awake with me
The one problem with the technique of taking each step at a time means I'm a bit suprised we're here already!

sootykalucy · 27/05/2008 22:02

nomore I had to do mine at 1am, we set the alarm ! And I tried the movies soosy - went to new Indianna J movie, but it really was 'same old, same old.' Now idly surfing the net and placing items for sale on e-bay - I must be getting really desperate.

And yes enjoy the injection free night tomorrow nomore, somehow NOT taking them made it all seem more real to me.

I've just realised that me and Swerve will be handing over the 2ww room baton to you two - lets hope it's a lucky exchange for everyone

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 21:31

I wish I could go to sleep right now - got to do my hcg injection at 11.30pm tonight, DH is looking through our DVD colection for something to keep us awake til then...I fully intend to sleep in tomorrow morning though (and enjoy not having to wake up at 7.30am on my day off to sniff DR drugs)

soosy · 27/05/2008 20:45

Congrats Nomore, good luck for Thursday! Go to sleep - best thing especially as you have a few follicles to drain. Enjoy your night off from injecting tomorrow night!

How's it going in the 2ww House Sooty, go to the cinema, great for taking your mind off things.

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 18:14

Sorry sooty I'm hoping lots fertilise as if we get some to freeze we might be able to afford a FET (or maybe even two) later this year, whereas I don't think we'll be able afford a fresh cycle for much longer. I'm thinking of this as my 'harvest' for the year!

sootykalucy · 27/05/2008 16:24

heynomore now I'm getting jealous , but as you've only got one try on the NHS I am also really happy for you . . . good luck for Thursday.

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 14:13

all go
Looks like I've got 16 good follicles (14-17mm) and a few smaller ones as well

nomoremagnolia · 27/05/2008 11:22

sooty still got everything crossed for you.
soosy great news on your lining. We're all got for Thurs EC/Sun ET so we'll almost be cycle buddies

sootykalucy · 27/05/2008 10:41

Congrats on growing your lining soosy, I will be thinking of you on Friday. Cramping has not returned of which I am very grateful - really painful. Finding this second week waiting quite hard - I think I gave myself a week off mentally last week - if only I could trick myself back into that mindset . . .

soosy · 26/05/2008 22:48

Well the suppositories certainly give you really painful wind! and a friend complained about how much they hurt, but I did get cramping with my first pg, so fingers crossed sooty.

Swerve, i didn't have symptoms with DS so don't worry about it! I am beginning to think no symptoms are a good thing.

OAP nice to hear from you how is life in your new home, gald to hear you are really chilled downregging, stay that way!

I had scan today, lining much thicker and I had a positive OPK this am so FET fixed for friday pm! all systems go....

Hope you are ok Nomore and having a chilled bank holiday weekend!

sootykalucy · 26/05/2008 10:54

Thanks swerve, I like your SIL story, but I am also thinking it might be the suppositories - ? Any other ideas anyone?

swerve · 26/05/2008 10:27

I hope that's a good sign, Sooty. Could it be implantation?? Opinions, anyone? My SiL had terrible cramping after ET - in bed with hot water bottles and convinced it had all failed. but it was a pregnancy.

I, on the other hand, have no signs, twinges or anything. I'm trying to get the balance between staying optimistic and not getting over optimistic (as I did last time). hmm..

sootykalucy · 26/05/2008 09:30

onlyaphase that was me about the 4-6 cycle thing. I am quite obsessed with the relationship between probability and chance as you guy's may have guessed. Having said that we're all gamblers in this game . . . but my Dr strongly recommends this approach as he says that for the first 4 cycles your chance of success does not diminish, and if you have been responding well that holds for another two.

I had the most intense cramping last night - 10 days after EC - and had to go and take paracetamol at 2am. It was like my worst period ever and was expecting blood - but none came. I can't help but think this is a good sign as I have never experienced cramping this early in the cycle, or this intensely without blood following the cramps. . .

Onlyaphase · 23/05/2008 20:04

Ah yes, the suppositaries do delay periods by a couple of days allegedly - certainly did for me last time around anyway.

Swerve, good news on the blastocysts, and lucky you only having to wait 10 days.

NMM - lucky you with lots of follicles, I am very jealous (but in a nice, good natured way!)

Spook - sounds like all your bits are functioning and ready and waiting, so I would think you should be well on the way. And yes, you will probably start treatment after your holiday in August unless you are downregging over that time.

I've been downregging for ages and ages now - about 5 weeks I think (rather embarrassing not to know, but as I just take the pill I can never remember when I started), but the final day for downregging is Saturday, baseline scan next Thursday. Can't believe I am about to start all the scans and injections again! It is an enormous pain having to go back to my old clinic again, but the waiting lists for the ones in the north were too long for me to have a May/June cycle like I wanted to. And I'm looking forward to seeing all the lovely nurses in the clinic again anyway.

And re the luck question - I think IVF is just a numbers game, we are all playing the odds each time. Sometimes we are lucky, sometimes not. Whoever said to think of it as a course of 4-6 cycles was spot on.

soosy · 23/05/2008 19:16

No more PMSL about Alex, can't stand the man perhaps I should think of him and it would definitely stay away!

Aspirin thing I did with DS but I hear all sorts of conflicting views about it, some clinics do and some don't. Milk is a no no I can't stand the stuff, never have done, and DS takes after me as when I started milk in a cup at about a year he wouldn't drink it and hasn't done since!

Must go and Iron before DH gets home. I have failed miserably this evening as we are having pizza and salad. Perhaps my lining needs a night off from worthy food!

nomoremagnolia · 23/05/2008 17:59

AF means Auntie Flo(w) - that terrible (american?) expression - in our house it has come to mean Alex Ferguson (after DH was abbreviating it on chat), so we have Alex come to visit rather than Auntie flo

sootykalucy · 23/05/2008 16:18

Great news nomore. And soosy I have to say I have no idea about the lining issue, but my clinic told me to drink up to a litre of milk and take 75mg of baby aspirin daily to support the lining. I'm not sure if that's appropriate prior to ovulation, but it probably wouldn't do any harm - at least the milk. I'm lacto-intolerant so am drinking lots of 'lacto-free' which is milk minus the lactose - you might find it easier to digest at larger quantities.

BTW I had heard that the progesterone suppositaries delay your period anyway (what the hell does AF stand for ?) Has anyone had any experience of this?

Have a good, growing weekend all
