IVFers thread

Anyone fancy starting an ongoing thread for those who are having IVF/ are planning to try again via IVF soon?

Ds was conceived via IVF - he's now 2.6 and we're stepping back on the scary rollercoaster ride with a FET - I started taking the drugs yesterday!

NMM, good news you have two on board today. Now, sit back and rest!

I'm off again tonight down south. We don't have internet access on the houseboat yet, so I will be out of range until Friday night. I'm not looking forward to this at all as I have 3 scans and blood tests this week, and will no doubt have questions for fellow IVFers arising from these. I will just have to wait til the weekend I suppose, boo.

Hope you all have a good week, Soosy and NNM enjoy the 2WW house.

nomoremagnolia · 01/06/2008 14:19

I'm back home with 2 embryos back where they belong Unfortunately none of the others were good enough to freeze The ones they put back were 5 and 7 cells, the others had slowed down/stopped at 3-4 cells. They didn't say what grades they were though.
swerve any news?
sooty glad you found something to cheer you up at the shops

sootykalucy · 31/05/2008 20:38

Sorry to hear you had such a worrying night soosy, my clinic did warn me that there is occaisionaly some bleeding after ET if that helps.

As for me, I took the shopping advice and went and bought myself a new camera - all the different features etc kept me well entertained for a few hours.

I feel like somethings been taken away from me rather than something didn't happen, which I know is irrational . . .

How are you going swerve? I hope you haven't joined me in the outerchamber of the waiting room yet . . .

Good luck with the transfers tomorrow nomore.

soosy · 31/05/2008 14:44

Oh sooty I am so sorry you are having a lousy weekend. I must admit my alcoholic binge was about a week after failed IVF and I felt so terrible for days afterwards. But I know what you mean about closure, in any case a couple of glasses of wine wouldn't do any harm.

I am spending a few minutes to myself before meeting DH, DS and Darling Nephews in communal gardens!

Thank you to everyone who posted on my desperate thread last night. I am still getting the palest of pink mucus, (Yes we are looking at things in rather too much detail, but that is what happens with IVF.) But it is definitely not getting any worse, and as I said to DH there is not a awful lot I can do about it. I decided not to ring ACU as they will only tell me not to worry and test in 2 weeks!

Nomore I hope you are having a good day away from Mumsnet! and that you are not too uncomfortable. I am keeping everything crossed for your transfer tomorrow.

Sad
sootykalucy · 31/05/2008 12:06

Hi, yeah I did have one glass of wine but I'm not intending to go all out until after the test on Monday, my clinic said the same thing, but they also said it's highly unlikely if you have a proper period and mine has certainly settled in . . .. I have to say I don't really feel like drinking - too depressed to enjoy it - it was more symbolic. After a day of clutching at straws and running back and forth to the bathroom, having a glass of wine was a way of getting closure.

nomoremagnolia · 31/05/2008 11:54

Sooty sorry it's not good news, I really thought you were going to get lucky. Have you been told to test regardless of period? My clinic said test after period as one embryo might not make it and cause bleeding but the other one might stick. I know it might sound like clutching at straws, but I'd rather be certain before hitting the booze. Hope you're taking it easy today.

soosy · 30/05/2008 20:56

Swerve sorry about your BFN but if af doesn't turn up try testing again.

I am sorry to hear your news Sooty, my clinic will let you try again after one cycle, but my acupuncturist says it takes about 3 cycles to go back to normal. Personally I found I physically bounced back better when I was younger, I am 38 (nearly 39) now and the last attempt took 3 cycles for everything to go back to normal (well normal for me). Emotionally it can be harder and you must give yourself time to deal with it, as it is tough on you. I am with OAP I find shopping a great healer and getting slightly trashed on champagne with a friend really helped last time!

Nomore, fantastic news 10 embryos brill. I am hoping you'll have some to freeze. Good that your clinic is open on Sunday, mine isn't and I usually have three day transfers as that was how DS came about. Really good luck.

OAP glad your scan went ok, I have a wandering left ovary that I have to anchor by pressing it v hard!

Coggy I am glad you are still lurking and really pleased you are going to adopt. I hope all goes well with the process. Are you hoping to adopt here or abroad? I am sure your referees will be highly complimentary.

Well ET went ok, had 2 embryos out of four survived, one survived better that the other, one had six surviving cells out of seven but the other one only had two out eight cells. Lets hope they are fighters and want to stick around. Suppose I am in the House, see you on Sunday Nomore!

Onlyaphase · 30/05/2008 19:46

Oh Sooty, I am so sorry. What an awful day for you.

Re the trying again, clinics vary, mine wants 2 periods before starting again on the 3rd one if you see what I mean. Others I think may be the same or less. For FET waiting times I don't know I'm afraid.

I do know that it can take a while for the hormones to settle down again - on my last failed cycle I felt really really tearful for a good two weeks afterwards, and it only about then I felt I could move on mentally from the failed cycle. Some people do get pregnant on their own on the first cycle after IVF as the stimulating hormones are still raging away in your ovaries.

Call me shallow, but I found that shopping helped me in those first few days a LOT. Be nice to yourself.

sootykalucy · 30/05/2008 18:59

Sorry to put a dampner on the thread but my period is starting to kick in now. Really disappointed as you know doubt all understand - which is nice to know. Does anyone know how long you have to wait before you can try again? I am sure you do Soosy.

In some ways my period coming slowly has been merciful, I have had all day to let it sink in . . . after four rounds of IUI I thought I'd be more prepared, but I guess every new treatment seems to offer new hope.

I'm holding onto the baton by the way - you guy's will do better without it, might bury it in the garden or throw it out the window.

Onlyaphase · 30/05/2008 18:30

Sooty, how do you feel? Periody or not? If it were me I'd test anyway now, just to be sure either way. Might be implantation bleeding. It is really early for your period to start if it is your period and you were not due to test until Monday.

Anyway, hugs to you today.

sootykalucy · 30/05/2008 17:43

Hi guy's, I haven't folded on the tests - seems there's no need. I got some blood this morning, it hasn't really developed into a fully fledged period yet, but I expect it shall .

Onlyaphase · 30/05/2008 13:18

Suppositaries = up the bum
Pessaries = up the vagina/fanjo/insert word of choice here

10 embryos is great, well done you. Looks like they will have lots to pick from on Sunday, and the rest to freeze if of decent quality. Oh and don't worry about quality too much - my DD is from a grade 2 embryo (grade one being the best) as I never seem to produce anything else. Bet you are glad you've had that call now - the morning can seem endless waiting for the phone to ring!

nomoremagnolia · 30/05/2008 12:02

Hi all - what is the difference between pessaries and suppositaries [innocent]
Got a call this morning - 10 embryos! Feeling fine today, so much so that I am going to the wedding tomorrow (wasn't sure I'd make it) ET is Sun at 12.
swerve sorry about BFN but it's not over yet. Fingers crossed for you
OAP Glad you're off and running
coggy best of luck with adoption, sorry it's taking so long - these children are very elusive, aren't they?
sooty Hope all's well, are you starting to fold yet or are you being strong about not testing til Mon?
soosy BEST OF LUCK TODAY lots of positive vibes coming your way

Onlyaphase · 30/05/2008 11:21

Swerve - so sorry to hear things aren't going well for you. Maybe it is just too early, especially if AF hasn't turned up yet

NMM - I agree with Coggy, best to use the pessaries as suppositaries. Frankly I'd so much rather not use them at all, but they are much less messy as suppositaries, once you get your head around using them. And it sounds like your EC was good too, I'm pleased for you. Mine are more like the ones Sooty had, and it takes me until at least the day after ET to feel normal again, both mentally and physically.

Coggy, hope your referees have written good things about you, odd you don't get to see them, but I suppose they have their reasons? Glad things are moving in the right direction for you at last anyway.

Well, baseline scan was OK yesterday apart from not being able to find my right ovary. It does hide away, and is stuck with adhesions to bowel as well - hence why my ECs are so long, drug filled and painful afterwards. Still, all else is well, so I start injecting Puregon tonight. Yippee! Hoping for lots of ovary twinges over the weekend, first scan and blood test Monday and every 2 days thereafter. Can't believe I'm here again.....

coggy · 30/05/2008 09:33

swerve.....sorry to hear that you have a bfn today....maybe wait a bit longer?

nomore....the pessaries are intriquing!
I actually ended up getting on with them better as suppositries as they were less messy...although the feeling was most perculiar.

Hi Soosy too.....I do lurk on this thread every now and again to keep an eye on you all!

We are under way with the adoption process at the moment. Due to go on a course at the end of the month, our referees have written some things about us that we do not get to see, and I'm going to book our medicals in for next week.

It sounds as if everything is moving really, really fast, but, in reality, our SW still said that we were probably going to be waiting until next Easter before anything it decided!

I seem to have been waiting and waiting for my children one way or another for EVER!

Hoping for lots of good news from this thread ion the next days and weeks.

swerve · 30/05/2008 06:02

nomore, 14 is a great catch. Hopefully lots to freeze - that hopefully you won't need!

coggy, great to hear from you! how are you?

i did my wee stick this morning. BFN. but still no sign of AF. pants! Is it wrong to put a slosh of gin onto my morning cereal?

nomoremagnolia · 29/05/2008 21:20

I'm a bit nervous about feeling bad tomorrow - I feel quite normal at the moment, yet I know that's not normal. I'm also not looking forward to the pessaries tomorrow, I know after everything else my body's been through they shouldn't be too bad, but I'm still worried!

soosy · 29/05/2008 20:33

Hi Coggy, how are you? It is lovely to see you.

Nomore, 14 eggs that is fab! You may feel quite sore tomorrow, As they give you some great pain relief which lasts about 24 hrs. I find that keeping moving helps and you can take paracetamol for pain. fingers crossed they all fertilise!

They are 3 day embryos so they defrost on the day....

Sx

nomoremagnolia · 29/05/2008 16:18

hiya coggy nice to 'see' you
Hope you're ok?

coggy · 29/05/2008 16:09

nomore....that's fantastic!
14 eggs from 16 follicles...well done you.

I will pray for good news for you tomorrow.
Cogs

nomoremagnolia · 29/05/2008 14:54

Well I'm back and I feel ok. Don't know if there's going to be shocking come-down from the sedative but at the moment I feel ok.
swerve and sooty Best of luck for testing this weekend - I won't be around on the weekend, so am sending you really positive vibes now Really hope this thread turns fruitful for all of us.
soosy fingers crossed for your embryos defrosting sucessfully. Do they defrost them today or tomorrow? Will be thinking of you tomorrow
Got 14 eggs from 16 follicles - not bad. Will know tomorrow how many fertilised.

soosy · 29/05/2008 14:15

Sooty, very spooky.......
I enjoyed sex & the city too, but was a bit shocked by the sex scenes I think I must be getting old! Plus it's not marriage that changes everything it's children!

Not long now for Sooty and Swerve, I hate the last few days, af usually turns up before testing time for me anyway. keeping fingers crossed.

OAP, hope your trip goes well, well done for timing it in half term.

ET set for 12 noon tomorrow, I am hoping that two of the four embryos will survive the freezing for transfer! Having acupuncture before and after the event, costing me a fortune but I want to give it my best shot.

Nomore I hope you are feeling not too sore, that all your follicles contain eggs and they fertilize well. Keeping fingers crossed for you too!

Sx

sootykalucy · 29/05/2008 10:21

swerve I know how you are feeling. I have a wee stick that I have promised myself I won't use until Sunday . . there is something deeply humiliating about testing only hours before your period arrives isn't there?

good luck nomore - now that you are safely 'on the table' I can say that EC was the most distressing part for me - worse than the drugs I think. Take it easy afterwards, I really underestimated the toll it took on my body (and mind).

And thinking of you tomorrow soosy, hope your ET goes well. BTW I really enjoyed 'Sex in the City'. It was great to see 'real' women, who looked their age, and the fashions were so much more exciting on the big screen rather than my tiny telly. I recommend it - and I am usually a complete snob about mainstream cinema.

swerve · 29/05/2008 06:19

nomore, I hope the fishing for eggs goes well for you today. sounds like you've got a good crop. I'll be thinking of you today.

OAP, I hope you had a smooth drive. We wait to hear how your scan goes. Are you driving back and forth until the transfer? I hope you have some good music to listen to.

Soosy - very important question: how was S&C???

I've bought my wee sticks. Lord, this has been a slow week. Just one more day. patience. patience.
