Anyone fancy starting an ongoing thread for those who are having IVF/ are planning to try again via IVF soon?

Ds was conceived via IVF - he's now 2.6 and we're stepping back on the scary rollercoaster ride with a FET - I started taking the drugs yesterday!

soosy I was lurking & noticed your post. so sorry. Be good to you{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}

swerve · 11/06/2008 06:33

Soosy, I'm so sorry! I really thought it would work for you. It's just so unfair. I know exactly what you mean about your friend. A friend of mine, who had IVF at the same time as me when we both got pregnant, told me she was pregnant again (naturally, lucky b*h) a couple of months ago. She knows I'm back on the IVF treadmill but that didn't stop her from moaning at having 2 children so close together and what a nightmare that will be. I had to walk away, otherwise I think I might have slapped her!

Welcome Africa! I know you're out there. I haven't been down your treatment route, but you'll get the hang of the fsh injections in a trice! Sounds like your doctor is very sensible and balanced.

How are the rest of you? OAP? Nomore? Sooty, are you ok?

soosy · 10/06/2008 21:03

BFN and spotting going to turn into AF. Statistically should be good news for you Nomore, so good luck for Fri. OAP hope things are going well for you.

Bad day friend had a baby girl this am, am v especially as she was the result of her first IVF attempt.

Have no idea what I am going to do next, need to move, it is out of London, so I am not sure whether we will move clinics or what....

soosy · 10/06/2008 14:16

Hi Justjules, you are a clever lady with those links! I wish I cold do the same. I just wanted to say, you are very thoughtful and kind.

No More wait until Sat am - much better don't do as I do do as I say. LOL P Day!, A little bit more spotting yesterday eve and this am. I am so frustrated by the whole thing.

OAP, hope all went well today>

nomoremagnolia · 09/06/2008 10:07

soosy I really hope it's a very faint positive line. Are you meant to be testing on Fri or sooner than that? I'm already thinking I might test on Fri eve rather than Sat but DH is trying to persuade me to stick to Sat. I just know I won't be able to sleep Fri night if the big test is Sat am. Sat is being called P-Day in our house at the moment

soosy · 08/06/2008 21:21

Hi Nomore, sorry to hear about your cramping scare, I had cramping with first pg, but not with second, so don't worry about it.

OAP, glad to hear everything going well and you are going to have EC early on Monday. Early morning is good you don't have to wait around starving and thirsty for too long. Are you going up north straight afterwards?

I have had more spotting yesterday, and was really fed up so did a test. I think it is still too early really, esp for an FET as sometimes they take longer to get going. I read the test at 3mins, as instructed and there was the faintest positive line. I even got DH to check, but when I looked at the test later it had disappeared, I can only think it was an evap line. I am feeling very pessamistic.

nomoremagnolia · 07/06/2008 14:11

Thanks OAP of course now I'm not worrying myself stupid I remember your post

Onlyaphase · 07/06/2008 11:35

NMM - if you look back at my posts about 10 days ago I posted that I had had the same thing on my successful IVF cycle. Sharp pains that woke me up in the middle of the night, then went away quite quickly. I think this was about a week or just over into the 2WW. In retrospect this was either implantation pains or just my uterus twinging after all the poking and needles etc.

So yes, I can give reassurance that this is OK - or was in my case anyway. Isn't the 2WW horrible.....and yes, a madness emoticon would be very useful at times!

nomoremagnolia · 07/06/2008 11:00

Hi girls, can I just quickly ask about cramping? I woke up at 4am with sharp cramping, which eased off again after a bit (I got up went to the loo and lay feeling worried for a while before falling asleep again). I know it's too eary to be a symptom and am worrying myself that it's AF, though it's only 6 days since ET. Don't quite know what I'm asking as I know none of you can tell me, I guess I just want reassurance that's it's ok (which I realistically know none of you can give...) [madness]

Onlyaphase · 07/06/2008 08:29

Well, hello everyone, it has been a long week and I am so pleased to be home again!

Welcome to Mowmi - your history reminds me of a friend of mine as it sounds very similar for fertility issues - they have twin boys now, you will be pleased to hear!

Soosy/NMM - hope your waiting isn't too bad. It is always the second week that sucks IIRC

NMM - on my first IVF, we only had 5 embryos and the 3 that weren't put back weren't good enough to freeze and didn't make it past the 8 cell stage. I was gutted by this and really felt the whole IVF was a waste of time and money, as I'd been hoping for 2 grade 1 blastocysts, and 10 in the freezer, and I spent the first 7 days of the 2WW moping away to myself, so I do sort of know what you are feeling. Now I just hope for 2 embyros of decent quality, and forget about the freezer as it just doesn't seem to be happening for us. Oh, and that first IVF cycle produced DD, so all that angst was a waste of time indeed.

I'm booked in for EC on Monday - brought forward by 4 days again as I've responded to the drugs well and fast. Womb lining is 13 mm, and it looks as though I have 2-3 decent follicles on my left side, maybe 6 on my right. This is much better than last time and I am really pleased. The only downside is dreading EC as the decent ovary is the tricky-to-access one so I will feel rather bruised afterwards. Last injection tonight, then a whole day off from needles - but as I've only been stimming for 8 days, it seems really soon to stop.
The other bonus to having early EC is that I will be the only person in the EC suite that day as everyone else is booked for Friday on this cycle - but the procedure is at 8am on Monday so at least 6 members of staff have to start work early on Monday, and I am sure they will be cursing me heartily come 6.30am Monday

Hope everyone else is well and enjoying the weekend

swerve · 06/06/2008 20:07

sorry stuarts, I'm at a london clinic. you could try fertilityfriends.co.uk - I think they have chat boards for different clinics / areas. you may find more people there.

I'm in a much better mood and have bounced my sulk after hearing that a v good friend is pregnant on her first time. she's had such a hard time getting to this point, I'm so thrilled it's worked for her. See! it does work!!!

Been out for dinner with dh and decided to let a month slip by and try for a harvest (if all is well) in august. that'll be exactly 2 years since it working for dd. 2 may babies? can i be that blessed? answers on a chat board...

stuarts · 06/06/2008 10:31

Hi

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) of having IVF at St Mary's in Manchester?

Thanks

nomoremagnolia · 05/06/2008 22:01

I think I am getting the hang of the pessaries now, though tomorrow morning will be my first work morning with pessaries, so we'll see how it goes (I've been taking the opportunity to go back to bed in the mornings after doing the pessary)
Soosy at your DS's dog comment!
Swerve sorry you're feeling low - look after yourself
I spent the afternoon with DGodS and his Mum (my BF) We were shopping for summer clothes that would cover her 14 week 'bump' without being maternity clothes. I saw a tiny babygrow with a zebra on it (my favourite animal, along with cats) and was very tempted, but resisted. If I find I am pregnant this time I'll be back there asap!!

soosy · 05/06/2008 20:16

Swerve Nice to hear from you, sorry to hear you have had another bfn. What steroids do you take? I really should get an appointment with Lister, infact I shall do it tomorrow! LOL swerve about the freezer! Ours' is empty after this as well, and I am already making plans for next attempt and this one isn't over yet! I just feel so rubbish, and I am spotting again.

Nomore, my Clinic says either way is fine. you could do rectally during the day and vaginally at night. I think your clinic is being a bit fussy as your rectum is right next to your uterus, just a different way! Also apparently the skin of the rectum is thinner than the vagina so it absorbs really well. Top tip, if TMI I am really sorry but it works for me, and DS as sometimes I have to use suppositories with him too. Lick your finger before putting the suppository up, if that is too much for you a little vaseline may help. In any case Swerve is right intramuscular injections are no joke and the needle is much bigger!

Sooty have a fab holiday, best thing relax and think about your next move!

DS was very sweet today, as he had been asking for a brother, he said he would like a dog not a brother, because they play more!

Sx

swerve · 05/06/2008 11:07

hello mowmi. welcome to the thread of hormonal highs and lows. my husband had t-cancer (umm.. 14 years ago). It's one of the reasons we've ended up down the ivf route (that and my endometriosis). but we have 1dd who is such a giggle.

Sorry i haven't around for a few days. sulking mostly. and feeling hormonally confused along with nagging headaches as i come off the steriods. AF has sent a postcard saying she'll be with me any day now. (and, yes, i've tried weeing on another stick but nothing). Just like last time. We'll wait and see how the next few weeks go and then see when we can try again - full harvest as the freezer's empty. I sound like I'm off to Wholefoods instead of Iceland!

Nomore, hold on with the pessaries. The alternatives are worse!

Sooty, I wish you sunny days and no rain. Lots of smelly cheese and fab red wine to wash it down. I hope you have a wonderful time.

soosy, congratulations on exchanging on your house. It sounds like you're in a buyer's market so I hope you find a wonderful home soon.

nomoremagnolia · 04/06/2008 21:49

no no no soosy why did you tell me that - I've been counting down the days til I can stop using them! Are there any hints you've got to make it less messy? I'm using them vaginally now (was using them anally from EC to ET and I thought that was bad - but at least it was not messy) I did ask the clinic about using them anally but they said no, it's not as effective

soosy · 04/06/2008 20:22

Good luck, you never know about you DH, he may surprise you. Mowmi. Don't worry about the age, my consultant thinks anybody having IVF under 40 is really young!

Nomore, yes they want you to test on Saturday to get your results as if you are pg you have to use the progesterone pessaries/suppositories until you are 12 weeks pg, and so you will need more! sorry that is the only downside to finding out you are pg!

mowmi · 04/06/2008 20:06

really need to get to grips with the icons - I'm such a novice!

mowmi · 04/06/2008 20:05

Thanks sossy, my fingers are crossed for you too - 15 cycles!! wow you must be the oracle!!
It's really sods law, I wasn't ovulating for a long time...metformin, losing a bit of weight and accu kicked it back off, DH's sperm count was improving and we thought we'd just keep cracking at it [blush} then out of the blue in Jan DH found a lump in the bath - i put it down to being a cyst...a week later he was having it removed! 4 rounds of chemo later he's cleared it which is great, he's done so well. We've been told we should wait 2 years to try naturally and there's a chance the chemo might have killed the old swimmers for good - we don't want to wait 2 years (I'm 35 and he's 39) just hoping our luck holds!!

nomoremagnolia · 04/06/2008 20:04

ET was Sun, so day 4 here, though they told me to test on Sat not Sun (so I can ring results in?)

mowmi · 04/06/2008 19:54

we did a massive sort out when we put this place on the market so shouldn't be too bad plus we've gone for a new build barratt thing and they send in the removal people to pack it all up as part of the deal - just don't want to take a load of crap with us.
just tried to work out how many days in to your wait you are - is this day 3 or 4?

nomoremagnolia · 04/06/2008 19:51

blimey that's not very long to do the packing in!!! If I rememer properly it took us about a week (from big rented 3 bed to little owned 2 bed though, so lots to sort/bin)

soosy · 04/06/2008 19:51

Hi Mowmi, I had acupuncture with DS (10th Cycle!) and well obviously I had DS. I have had acupuncture for my last cycle (5th post DS) which was unsuccessful, but my egg quality was pretty damn fab for a 38 year old! I am having acupuncture for this FET cycle, and I won't know anything til next week. From what I understand the important thing is to have treatment which makes you feel relaxed and that is the thing that helps.

I wish you loads of luck with your IVF, I had a friend with testicular cancer, he has two children now (no IVF necessary). My DS has poor count, mobility and morphology. DS was as a result of IVF with donor sperm.

Nomore glad you are feeling a bit more cheerful. Not entirely sure how I feel, really tired actually! I would always think of having embryos to freeze as a bonus, as it hardly ever happens. In 15 cycles of IVF/ICSI we have had 3 cycles in which we have frozen four eggs each time, plus they don't always survive the process. So don't feel like you have failed, nomore you are actually normal!!!

Nice to see you sooty, Have a lovely holiday, you deserve it, eat stinky cheese until you are sick of the sight of it and salami and parma ham, smoked salmon and everything else now banned during pregnancy, as you can be sure those are the things you want to eat when you are pregnant!
