Anyone fancy starting an ongoing thread for those who are having IVF/ are planning to try again via IVF soon?

Ds was conceived via IVF - he's now 2.6 and we're stepping back on the scary rollercoaster ride with a FET - I started taking the drugs yesterday!

NMM - that is not at all insensitive. Fantastic news that you got referred to the clinic you wanted. We didn't go down the NHS route so I don't know how it all works but it's shocking you don't normally get to choose in this scenario.

Well the plot thickens with me. After falling from almost 600 to 100 ish my HCG has now risen again to almost 200. The docs don't have an explanation. They say the preg is not viable (which is kind of obvious) and I am on ectopic watch.

I have to go back on Friday for a scan and another blood test (when the Effing hell am I going to be able to get back to normal and also do some work!!?) and if I have any severe pain or bleeding have been told to go to A&E immediately. Now I'm getting paranoid over every ache or pain!
My uninformed view is that given the preg is early it is unlikely to rupture as the embryo can't be growing anymore so at least that's something. Btw I don't even have any tubes as they were removed before my first IVF so it'd be in the tiny stub of the tube I guess if it were ectopic. WTF is going on?

We definitely all need a better week next week.

nomoremagnolia · 20/02/2008 19:09

(((OAP/SS/Sticki))) What a crappy week on this thread
If it's not too insensitive of me I've got a teeny bit of good news - we've heard from the clinic we've been referred to (and it's the one I wanted) and they've invited us to attend a presentation/meeting to introduce us to the clinic/staff/process and it's in 3 weeks time! Unfortunately DH will be out of the country so we'll have to wait for the next meeting but I am really pleased that we are at least moving in the right direction and we didn't have to wait too long either!

SaveScrabulous · 20/02/2008 14:03

OAP - what shite timing - does the MIL know about your treatment? If so I think it would be very fair to say that although you are delighted for SIL and don't want to take away her joy, if MIL could tone it down a bit it would help you - just for the next week or two.

So sorry to hear about AF arriving.

Talking of bad timing, not quite as bad and this was so weird it almost made me laugh but literally 3 mins after I got the call from the clinic to say that my HCG levels had dropped and so the preg was not viable, the checkout lady in the supermarket (I was there when I took the call) started asking 'where was ds's baby brother or sister' and when I said he doesn't have one she said 'oh so does he have an older brother or sister'. No eff off he doesn't would have been a suitable reply. I kind of ran off. Bad timing.

Onlyaphase · 20/02/2008 13:48

Well, AF here so this is a confirmed no go cycle. Was actually getting on Ok - picking clinics in the north for us to to and check out after our move north in April etc, having reflexology tonight to get my body back to normal etc - when MIL turns up with the news that my sister in law is 6 weeks pregnant. And MIL is a chatterer and hasn't stopped talking about it ever since. Am debating either (a) shooting her or (b) running away

SS - so sorry to hear your news.

Seems to be the group of doom so far, hope Sticki and Coggy fare better

Off to find a gun...

SaveScrabulous · 20/02/2008 09:25

Sticki I hope that af isn't on its way and that you are going to get better news than all of us so far!

I'm off to the clinic in a minute - not sure what they'll do - maybe a blood test to double check.

Sticki · 20/02/2008 08:45

SS Im so so so sorry. Hope you are doing ok in the circs. Take care of yourself.

What a bad week we are having.

Coggy - hope you are ok?

Im sadly having cramps which usually mean AF is on the way..... Am terrified to look.

Take care all

soosy · 19/02/2008 11:39

Oh SS and OAP I am so so sorry to hear your news, i really thought my bad cycle would mean statistically better news for you both. It has been one hell of a week for us all. SS You may have to have a scan anyway, just to check. I am keeping everything crossed for you Coggy, when are you testing?

I am seeing my consultant on Friday to make a plan. I have some ideas of my own I want him to listen to, we'll see what happens. I am quite good at being pg in april (its happened twice!)

I am sending massive hugs and lots of love to you all.

S x

SaveScrabulous · 18/02/2008 20:31

I'm not too bad about it at all. Just a bit worried about what happens next - how long have to wait for m/c to actually happen etc....

I guess as it's early it won't be too awful but I just want it over with so I can get on with my life.

I hope for better news for this board soon - it's not been a good few days really has it! We need some positives!

coggy · 18/02/2008 19:50

Oh no! Crossed posts SS...I'm so sorry. What a truly horrible day.

coggy · 18/02/2008 19:45

Sticki...I feel surprisingly normal actually!
Thought I would be going mad by now, but feel okay. I know that this week will probably be hard so I have lots of housework, reading and cooking planned to keep me busy!

I'm down in the West Country (I think it was SS who asked?) So no choice of clinics here! I am content with what I have though fortunately.

SS....I havebeen thinking of you on and off today. Hope it all went ok and we're looking ofrward to hearing that all is okay soon.
X

SaveScrabulous · 18/02/2008 19:40

Hi guys

OAP - so sorry to hear your news. How are you feeling now?

I'm afraid I have bad news too. My HCG had dropped from 599 last weds to 104 today so it's not happening for me either. No bleeding yet. I have to go for a confirmation blood test on weds and in the meantime if no bleeding should continue my meds but if bleed then stop. Can't see the point of continuing with the evil injections but I suppose I will do as told!

Have had a chat with dh and it's early days to decide for sure but we're going to come back to this in a year's time and decide whether to call it a day or do one more fresh (I think FETs are pants - loads of meds at my clinic and a lower chance of success!!)
I'm so grateful for my lovely ds that I can't feel too upset.

So that's all folks. I'll come back and see how the rest of you get on.

Once again OAP - sorry to hear your news too.

Sticki · 18/02/2008 19:04

Oh dear. I hate IF and all the cr*p it brings. It really is the pits. Wish I could make it go away (tempted sometimes to wave DD's fairy wand....)

Hope SS you have some good news with your hcg and progesterone levels?? Fingers crossed

Coggy - how are you? Hope you are ticking off the days ok? (You asked I think which area we live in - Im in SW London, currently sunny!).

Hi Pulapula. Hope your sister is ok. Sounds like she is v lucky to have you and your mum to support her through this really hard time. I wish I had something useful to add, the others have said it all really.

Hi also Seabright - how was your ET? Hope it went smoothly and you are now officially in the 2ww 'house'. Sorry, I cant remember what you posted now, but is this your first ivf?

Sticki · 18/02/2008 18:53

Doh! Meant to finish sentance ...as Coggy says I hope you have wonderful news later in week.
x

Sticki · 18/02/2008 18:49

Oh no OAP Im really really really sorry. I hope the dreaded AF hasnt turned up, and you are doing ok. As Coggy says,

Completely understand about avoiding MN. I hope to see you back in happy circumstances. Take good care of yourself.

Not sure it will help, but I did some choc chip cookies today. Will leave you a plate.
Hugs x

coggy · 18/02/2008 16:42

Oh OAP.....I'm so sorry.

I really, really, really hope that it's just too early for a strong hcg result and that you will get some surprising but wonderful news in a few days time.

I totally understand the need to avoid MN....I have had to do that several times over the last years.

I wish that there was more I could say or do.
Take care.
X

Onlyaphase · 18/02/2008 12:27

Hi all

Just to let you know that I don't have good news I'm afraid. Tested early yesterday, and got a negative and feel distinctly like my period is starting anyway. Given I tested positive so early last time, and the way I feel now, this cycle is a no go.

I will speak to my clinic on my official test day - Wednesday - and see when I can start again. Problem is that we are moving 250 miles north at the end of April, so can't fit a cycle in before then, and will have to line up a good clinic to start asap in May. Bum.

Will be avoiding MN for a while I think - I need to keep busy doing things with DD rather than sitting on MN all day, and also I find it very difficult to deal with threads about people getting pregnant when they don't want to be, or pregnant on demand. So will be keeping busy elsewhere, but will drop in to catch up at some point to see how you are all getting on. Good luck all

SaveScrabulous · 17/02/2008 20:34

ooh coggy I love flapjacks....send some over please!

Where has the weekend gone!? Far too quick for my liking!

Coggy - if I get that far there would indeed be a 7 week scan - scheduled for a week on Weds. I will have a better idea of viability tomorrow I think as I have my follow up blood test for the progesterone and I'm going to insist they check HCG again. If it has gone up since the last one in the right magnitude that'll be good news.

Will let you know tomorrow night.

Had a lovely weekend - dinner with dh last night at a gastropub type place and then went to Surrey today to see friend's new gorgeous country house. Bit of a trek (am in outer N London) but worth it.

Where vaguely do you all live by the way?

Bum hurting from today's injection - ouch!

coggy · 16/02/2008 14:41

also weeks

Must go and get my flapjacks out of the oven now!

Let's hope they are better thanmy typing!!!!!

coggy · 16/02/2008 14:39

oops...alos meant to ask...will you have a 7 weeks scan?
Is that standard with fertility treatment?

If so...that won't be long after our TDay I guess.

coggy · 16/02/2008 14:38

Sorry to hear about your sister Pulapula.

SS...I'm on day 5 of the 2WW I think...I'm a bit confused really 'cos I thought that everyone would test 2 weeks (ish) from ET but you were all talking about how long since EC I seem to remember. My clinic told me the bog standard 14 days after ET which would be a week on Monday.
That would be horrible testing before I go back to work so I think I'll probably test on Saturday or Sunday morning (assuming I get there!). I don't suppose a couple of days early is going to make all that much difference is it?

SaveScrabulous · 15/02/2008 20:25

Pulapula - sorry to hear your sister's news. it sounds like she has a very caring family around her in you and your mum. She should try and go to the clinic if it is a negative and decide next steps when she is ready so that she knows what to do next.

OAP - it is a total pain in the bottom (literally) re the injections. The only upside was the nurse at the GP was lovely and it helped me to have someone to talk to as I've been pathetically weepy and rubbish recently. She also said that she totally understood why I couldn't do these ones myself as they are so much harder than the other IVF injections given the way bigger needle/ into the muscle etc.
So I didn't feel like quite such a wuss. They're really uncomfortable afterwards for ages!! I never had this problem with the other injections.

Wow OAP and Coggy - d-day (or should that be t-day) for you guys is just around the corner!! When are you going to get those pee sticks out?!?!

pulapula · 15/02/2008 14:34

Thanks onlyaphase,

My sister called my mum, and she'd spoken to her clinic who said to carry on her treatment for now but it looked likely that the pregnancy had taken for a short while, but now ended.

She is obviously really upset as things were going so well compared to her first attempt when no eggs fertilised. The only positive is that they have 1 frozen embryo from this attempt if they want to use that.

Onlyaphase · 15/02/2008 10:52

SS - can't believe you have to go to the docs every day - is there not some sort of tablet or pessary you can take instead. Talk about disruptive!

No spoiling here from DH. As he is away I half expected him to have arranged flowers or something, but nothing turned up apart from an Amazon order I had arranged myself! Still, he isn't entirely to blame as the card I had bought for him, intending to slip it into his suitcase, is still sitting beside me on the desk. Oops. Hope everyone else managed better than this.....

Am feeling increasing drawn to shopping as a means to passing the time. We all know that IVF etc is expensive - well so is the 2WW! DD has sufficient summer clothes now to last for at least 3 years!

Onlyaphase · 15/02/2008 10:47

Hi Pulapula - your poor sister, she must be feeling gutted today. I think my clinic says if you tested negative but have not started bleeding, to test again two days later. Bear in mind that embryos inplant between 5 and 10 days after ovulation/egg collection so if she has embryos that implanted late then it is possible that she won't have a positive test yet. I know this may seem like clutching at straws, but I do hope it all works out for her.

pulapula · 15/02/2008 09:37

Hi,

I posted last week, as my sister is having IVF. She tested this morning (2 weeks after ET) but got a negative test result. She is gutted and can't speak to anyone and has gone for a lie down.

Is there ANY chance she could be pregnant as she hasn't had a period yet? Or really should she be getting a strong test result at this stage?

I am probably clutching at straws but its heart-breaking as everything was looking so good and I had assumed if her period hadn't shown up, then it was probably going to be positive (and twins). For there not to be any baby is very upsetting.
