First timers, TTC. Safe space for brain dumps...

Hi everyone!

This thread may or may not contain questions, I've mainly started it to be my brain dump safe space but in an excited way, not a bad way...

Me (30) and my SO (34) have decided to take the leap and start TTC! We have both wanted children for a while but just knew the timing wasn't right for either of us until now. For me, any time I see a baby or even baby clothes recently my heart aches for it to be my turn. I've never really had that strong feeling before.

The reason behind this 'safe space' is that we have agreed not to tell anyone we are TTC. We just want to avoid any pressure or disappointment if things don't go to plan, etc.

For context, I am the youngest of 5, the only girl the only one of my siblings without children.
SO is the oldest of 2, his brother has a child who lives with BM away from here so isn't really seen much by grandparents.

Both families are great and would only want the best for us but I personally don't want to feel any sort or pressure at all (intended or not) from either side.

So, we start our journey, we are on cycle 1 SWI, not expecting anything to happen this cycle and trying not to turn in to a crazy lady about TTC Smile

If anyone else needs a brain dump safe space, feel free to join me here Smilex

Hey everyone, mind if I join? Really feeling the need for some company on this journey! I'm 33 as is my partner, we've stopped trying to not get pregnant for the past two months but nothing has happened yet so I think we're going to have to be a bit more strategic about it and less laissez-faire! I swear my head is already in a mess, flitting between "this is going to happen!" to "what if it never happens for us?" Lots of babies and pregnancies all around me at the moment which is lovely but contributing to a bit of stress and comparison which we all know is the thief of joy.

Lovely to meet you all and best of luck on your journies!

Zubi · 10/01/2022 17:14

@Florrie95 I've ordered some of the first response ones, will be arriving Weds. You can imagine I'll be sat at the window all day waiting for them 😂 being in isolation with covid is making me think even more about it!

Florrie95 · 10/01/2022 17:11

@Zubi ooh let us know if you do test tomorrow!

GAAJ04 · 10/01/2022 16:20
@Zubi consensus is DONT use clear CB... use First response - they are much better and are less likely to give a horrible evap line xx
I didn't realise the CB one were best to avoid! Thanks for sharing this … best go buy some first response ones haha

Zubi · 10/01/2022 16:01

@FlyOnTheWall89 @ERachD interesting I didn't know that, thanks for the advice! Fingers crossed for positives all around

lakejupiter · 10/01/2022 15:57

@Zubi I defs see a tiny line!! Hope it carries on getting darker

ERachD · 10/01/2022 15:55

@Zubi

Has anyone tried the clear blue 6 day before missed period tests? Wondering how reliable they are as I'm starting to feel impatient!
Yesterday I had an evap line on the clear blue and it was a total emotional roller coaster! I now have the first response ones at the ready to test again in a few days x

@Florrie95 I think I see it!!! This is so exciting!! Fingers crossed for you keep up posted. Making me want to test sooner now!

FlyOnTheWall89 · 10/01/2022 15:00

Hi! Joining in this thread as I'm also TTC baby number 1 Smile. We are on our 9th cycle of trying and it feels like a lifetime already. Hoping the flow of BFPs on here with lots of other first time mums will help me feel more positive at this point! X

Florrie95 · 10/01/2022 14:57

@Zubi oh I'm glad yours is mild too! My phone is currently fill of lateral flow test lines and is about to be full of pregnancy test lines, what is life 😅

I caved and did a test just now with smu, the boredom overtook. It had the slightest line with a twinge of pink in real life but I know its too early to be testing really and it could well be an evap. Im using the Amazon Wondfo tests for anyone wondering. If they get darker in the next couple of days I'll use a FRER. Feel free to squint and laugh at my 9dpo test!

I have had a busy weekend so just catching up now. How exciting to see some BFPs!! Hopefully there will be many more to come. I am just getting AF out of the way and then looking forward to month 2 of TTC. Due to our ages - mid 30s - and it being #1, I am expecting it to take a while, but you never know! These posts have given me some hope that it might happen sooner rather than later!

ERachD · 10/01/2022 13:54

@Florrie95

Hey everyone, so nice to see everyone's BFPs! I'm 8DPO, 9DPO tomorrow and the urge to test is real. However, AF is due Thursday so I know I should wait. I only have cheap tests so the likelihood of getting a bfn is high especially this early. Ahhhh.

Just today I've started having sensitive nipples, lower back pain (not usual for me) and some very mild cramping. When you write them down they seem so obviously related to implantation, but I also currently have covid (mild so far, thankfully) and who knows what's going on inside my body 🤔 I'm isolating at home and the tests are sitting there staring at me. Is anyone else testing in the next couple of days?? @Zubi you seem to be close to me in DPO, how long do you think you'll hold on for? 😁

I'm exactly the same! AF due Thursday and caved and did an early detection test this morning which unsurprisingly was negative! When are you going to test? Xx
lakejupiter · 10/01/2022 13:29

@Mariabombia yes I'm 2DPO (I think!! Struggling to pinpoint ovulation exactly tbh). We did home inseminations on three consecutive days over that period though so trying not to stress too much.

Mariabombia · 10/01/2022 13:24

@lakejupiter that is really lovely 😁 are you in your TWW now? 🤞🏻

@taytay2020 that is a really good attitude to have. Are you going to do OPKs etc this month? I need to be more zen!!

@ERachD I've stupidly told all our close friends and keep getting asked every time we see people 🤨 thinking that was a bad move now. Burst into tears last time a friend asked me casually 2 minutes into seeing each other arghh.

ERachD · 10/01/2022 11:28

Thank you for starting this thread! Please may I join you ladies?
Me (30) and my partner (35) are TTC for our second baby and I'm insanely excited but have no one to talk to as like you we don't want anyone to know just yet!

Where abouts are you guys in your journey? I'm currently in limbo, due to start my period (hopefully not) a week today. I have my tests at the ready but it's so hard not to build hopes up!

Hope you're well xxx

taytay2020 · 10/01/2022 11:15

Hi everyone, can I join?

I'm 33, and I stopped taking the mini pill last January 😯 Cue 6 months of ttc with opks and stressful twws and nothing but BFNs, followed by 6 months of not trying quite so hard (a summer 2022 due date would have been...inconvenient) and still nothing but BFNs.

But I think the ttc attitude of both DH and I has changed over the last year of waiting. I've had time to accept that I can't plan when this will happen, and I've enjoyed taking up new hobbies, doing more exercise and getting in better shape, and enjoying free time while I still have it. DH has become less nervous about the pressure of ttc, and less nervous/more excited and confident about the prospect of having kids. 😀

So, new year, new start, and we're really going for it this month! I'm calling this month our Cycle 1 of Round 2!

It's great to see a range of experiences and ages on this thread. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone here. We can do this! 🤞🙌✨

lakejupiter · 10/01/2022 11:01

Ahhhh I'm so excited to see everyone's BFPs

@TinyDancer91 no neither of us have partners involved, it's just the two of us. We spent a few years really getting to know each other and are very close platonically which really helps with all the emotions coming up (already!!! Lol)

Can't wait to see how everyone's TWWs go

CrazyCatLady95 · 10/01/2022 10:54

@TinyDancer91 I ovulated on either Sunday or Monday I think so I'm 7/8 dpo! I have no symptoms though so not too convinced really!

TinyDancer91 · 10/01/2022 08:37

@CrazyCatLady95 I'm about 6/7 dpo. AF due next Tuesday, how about you?

OP posts:
CrazyCatLady95 · 10/01/2022 08:07

@TinyDancer91 how many dpo are you? I'm also about half way through tww so I think we're on similar timings 😁

TinyDancer91 · 10/01/2022 06:28

@lakejupiter that awesome that you have both decided to do that! Are you both in couples? Excited to hear about your journey!

I'm almost half way though my TWW now and honestly it's dragging 😩 but I am quite an impatient person haha. Going to try to hold off testing until AF is due I think 😬

OP posts:
Zubi · 10/01/2022 00:16

@Florrie95 I have covid too! Haha luckily fairly mild for me too. My AF due Sunday so we're really not far apart, I'm thinking I can hang on until Sunday.

Really hard as the symptoms of implantation are so similar to AF. Defo got the breast tenderness and I'm thinking I'm quite emotional but I'm wondering if I'm thinking into it all!

lakejupiter · 10/01/2022 00:04

Hello! Excited to join this thread. I'm 36 and TTC for the first time with a coparent (I'm a lesbian, he's a gay man) via home insemination. Been tracking cycles and doing OPK test for a while to pin down my fertile window and this month was our first month TTC! I'm now on CD17 and 1DPO so it's the start of my TWW. I haven't bought tests or anything and honestly was so preoccupied with the logistics of home insemination and ovulation dates and getting the timing right that I hadn't given much thought to the TWW until today. Now I'm reading up on threads and feeling a bit clueless about early tests vs regular tests etc. My AF is due 24th or 25th so it's a long old wait! Looking forward to catching up on this thread so far.
