Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has been for a first appointment at the ACU in Dundee. My husband and I have our first appointment together at the end of January and just wondering what to expect.

Yea this would be our first child all going well 🤞🏼

Overthinking feels like part of the territory now, i have seen lots of people saying that once you have been through fertility struggles even after they’ve got pregnant and went on to have healthy babies that it never leaves you ☹️But on the upside I’m sure it will also make us stronger women and even better mothers ❤️

I am also an Aries too so it could be that x

CuriousAries · 24/07/2022 22:38

@MrsMacttc
Is this for your first child?
I get the not telling family / friends.
I've only very recently opened up to a couple of people but not sure I would openly talk about it. Not until at least baby was here...maybe still not. Not sure if it takes away something from the experience...like it doesn't matter how conception happened just like it doesn't matter what birth you have.
I'm a deep thinker- an over thinker...it doesn't help things!

MrsMacttc · 11/07/2022 13:46

Yeah our letter said PCOS & Unexplained Infertility. When I tried the clomid, the tests seemed to show that it was working but didn’t result in a pregnancy so don’t know if that’s where the unexplained part comes in. I understand trying to enjoy the most of ur time, probably wise 😀 I’m fortunate that I only work part time but like you I’m thinking that once I get my schedule for appointments I will need to tell my employer, we are about 1.5hr drive to Ninewells 🙄but that was the clinic we were allocated so will take what we are given not going to complain lol I haven’t however told my family or my husbands family yet, I have a complicated relationship with my family and wonder if I will ever tell them at all😬

CuriousAries · 11/07/2022 08:43

@@MrsMacttc
I can imagine!
Out of interest, if you don't mind me asking, have you been diagnosed with unexplained infertility?
I'm doing ok, think I said on a previous post that I'm just enjoying all this me time...as probably when the time comes I'll be thinking what am I doing 🤣
Changing my mindset has definitely helped me cope but when the time comes that will be a different story.
Currently forward thinking to telling employers or covering it up? I'm a teacher, 40-60 mins away so already not looking forward to the drive to appointments every other day - if that's the case- I'm not sure. X

MrsMacttc · 08/07/2022 09:04

That’s so kind thank you, I hope I can try and be of some help to you too.

Im a bit of a mixed bag at the moment, I came off the pill and started TTC in Jan 2019 so feels like we have been waiting forever, now that we are (hopefully) close to starting our treatment I go between feeling buzzing like we are almost at the finish line then filled with dread and fear that it might not work so it’s been weird.

how are things with you? X

CuriousAries · 08/07/2022 08:19

@MrsMacttc
Aw that's exciting, it's just round the corner for you now!
How are you feeling?
Happy to support you through here in any way.

MrsMacttc · 08/07/2022 00:28

Hey, it was around nov / dec 2021 that we got added to the waiting list, we got a letter in April this year to go for an appointment which we naively thought was the start of our treatment but it was just to get more bloods taken and check my weight etc, we had a follow up call from the consultant a few weeks later and he said that looking at the waiting list we should expect to start around august. We’ve since got another letter confirming that this is the case and we are due to start next month all going well. Hopefully it won’t be as long for you and you can get started soon

CuriousAries · 07/07/2022 17:40

@MrsMacttc
Hello!
Sorry not as far along as that yet so I have no idea.
Can I ask when you were added onto the waiting list so I can work out how long it's been until this bit?
Literally just been added on today and told 9-12 months to start treatment but appointments will be made beforehand.

MrsMacttc · 02/07/2022 21:48

Hey just found this thread , we are currently on the waiting list for IVF at Ninewells and recently got a text asking us to log in to their website and sign e consent forms however the link doesn’t seem to be working 🙄has anyone else had this same problem? Will call them first thing Monday

mrsmacmc · 26/06/2022 11:36

@CuriousAries, thank you! I'm hoping they'll do a tele / econsult as we're about 90mins from ACU.

The wait game is certainly a test of patience 😫

CuriousAries · 26/06/2022 09:57

Hey @mrsmacmc
Of course!
Fingers crossed for a short wait although the first appointment was a let down and could easily be done on phone/online so I maybe wouldn't put things on hold as that could be an option.
I know the wait game is sooo hard but somehow I've felt it easier as time has went on. Just changed my mindset and trying to enjoy all the me time before life potentially changes and I never get a minute to myself again 🤣

mrsmacmc · 25/06/2022 00:08

Could I please join the thread. We are FINALLY on the waiting list for initial appt at ACU letter came through 13th June. Would it be wrong to guesstimate Sept for initial appointment? Feel like our lives are on hold just now as don't want to book anything in case we get appt through!

CuriousAries · 24/06/2022 23:40

@RRk1469

Hey! Sorry I couldn't log in to reply for a while!
We have had progress. Ultrasound and Hycosy done in March within a couple of weeks of each other. All fine.
It's taken 6 weeks to get the letter through today to say unexplained fertility and please phone at 2 years to go on the list??
1.- DH has 0%morphology at times so is that not the reason rather than unexplained?

  1. It's been 24 months now (like 24 cycles) although 2 years in July so dunno if we can't get on until July and then 6-9 months from then!
Website says treatment starts within 12 months but don't know when from! I'll need to email and ask if I can from now! That's frustrating for you but hopefully not much longer now since your appointment was just after mine. And least you'll get added to the list straight away! X

Hey, hows you?

Sorry ive not been on in ages. We are honestly getting so frustrated. Not reakky any further forward. Had my up yo date chlamydia seap and i asked her to chase up the ultrasound bit no luck!

How are you gettung on?

OP posts:
CuriousAries · 14/03/2022 11:26

@RRk1469 Had the HSG this morning. Nothing through about ultrasound yet.

How are you getting on?

CuriousAries · 10/02/2022 19:29

Period came a few days early which isn't usual but typical! That's meant I've not been able to get the hycosy done this month as it will be too far in cycle for the date I provisionally booked and didn't have an appointment slot the week before.
Due booster next month which will probs delay period again, then going on holiday so I bet you this will be into April/May before dates work out Angry

Nothing through about ultrasound.

Aw yeh the covid guidelines- they came out in Dec. Did you not say you were fully vaccinated anyway? I was really upset as well when I first heard!

Anything through about 2nd sperm sample yet?

RRk1469 · 31/01/2022 22:32

@CuriousAries

Glad appointment was ok. Good to compare against 2nd SA as it might be higher next time. Not got ultrasound app as there's a waiting list. Hycosy booked in for mid Feb if period comes as usual - with covid now who knows 😩 R u to get Hycosy as well?
Yeah he said its just protocol to do a second to confirm everything. Yes I think I've to get both tests. He told me I'd get letters through for them though so I'm assuming I don't make the appointment with the doctor?

I have just read on the ninewells ACU news page that all women without an up to date vaccine will be denied treatment until fully vaccinated which I'm a bit annoyed about.

I'm not on the waiting list yet. He said I'd need all the tests first as it's just standard procedure to do that all first.

OP posts:
CuriousAries · 29/01/2022 17:31

Also did they say u r on the waiting list now or after the results of everything.
We were told after results but we haven't hit that 2 years of trying yet so that's maybe why.

RRk1469 · 29/01/2022 17:23

Our appointment was same as you really. We went through all the questions. They said DH sperm concentration was quite low. He had 5million and apparently should be 15, so he has requested a second SA to confirm and I've to get my chlamydia swab and ultrasound and we'll be put onto the waiting list. Have you had and of your appointments yet? You must be so frustrated with having covid again 🙄

OP posts:
CuriousAries · 22/01/2022 15:17

No cos we have covid...again!!
Will need to wait until next month now.
They ask for smear within last year but also a chlamydia swab within last 6 months. Did you not get one done with GP before referral?
Not long to go for you now 😬

RRk1469 · 21/01/2022 19:45

Hey!

Did you manage to get your hycosy done?

Do you mean another smear test? I just had one before Xmas so I'll probs need another before I start anything.

OP posts:
CuriousAries · 15/01/2022 12:13

Took BMI but just asked about smoking and alcohol and we both don't.
Did say chlamydia test is needed to be within 6 months and mines was about 8 months so need to go back to GP...and by the time treatments due to begin im guessing would need yet another one.
They didn't even look at the forms for the answers just asked if all again.
The 28th will come around quick 😬
