Pull out method

My husband and I used this method and it worked fine for us for years. I kept a close eye on my cycle and we always avoided sex when we knew I was near ovulation.

Admittedly we later also found out that my husband has low sperm motility so that could have helped us out.

Its obviously not a recommended method of contraception and definitely not something to be done with someone you’re not comfortable having a baby with.

Yeah, but I find when he comes inside, it either all stays there or just a little bit seeps out. Nothing as bad as having him jizz all over your body which to me is just a bit porn-like.

If you're going to try it then track your cycle properly (eg using Natural Cycles and use a barrier method on your more fertile days (do not rely on withdrawal at those times)

We call it the making dd method.....

Nope, just cracked on with it. But it might be best to avoid the middle of the cycle and use a Condom at that time.

Don't know how pp can say pulling out would spoil the mood but wearing a Condom wouldn't. But we're all different and different things work for everybody! I know people say it's unreliable but we used withdrawal method successfully for 4 years before ttc, nothing is fall proof and it worked for us. It does take good self control on your partners front though! We would have been happy if I did fall pregnant though so not sure I'd use it if that was not the case..

We used it to space pregnancies, and it worked fine. We chose it in a situation where it wouldn't have been a disaster if it had failed (I happen to hate condoms). If pregnancy would be a disaster then it's not appropriate.

And yes course it's a method of contraception - it reduces your chances of pregnancy from about 80% per year to 20% or less depending on how well you're doing in. It's just not nearly as reliable as the gold standard methods like Mirena/implant and vasectomy. If you started a thread titled "is the POP/copper coil/implant/condoms reliable, how many of you got pregnant while using it?" you'd get a whole string of anecdotes about people who had accidental pregnancies while using any of them but that doesn't mean they're not methods of contraception - with varying levels of reliability.

I did twice!! Though the first after 10 years.

It worked for us for ten years. Then we wanted to conceive and did on first try. Now, two years later I'm pregnant again...unplanned this time!

I read once that some men have sperm in their precum and some don't so I think that could be a factor here. I think it was 50/50 but I don't really remember and I've no idea how reliable the study was.

If used correctly every time it's pretty effective. Most of the 'accidents' occur when are he men fail to pull out in time. Most evidence suggest there is little to no sperm in precum.
It worked really well for us for two lots of two years in between 1&2 and 2&3. Conceived first month after trying with both.
I was happy with this choice but only because a baby wouldn't have been a disaster just a little earlier than planned.

I did a lot of research on this. It turns out that some men have some number of viable sperm in their pre-cum, and some men don't have any. According to the only study I could find, actually withdrawing only has about a 4% failure rate, so fairly comparable with condoms, and not too far off hormonal contraceptives. The real problem comes when people don't actually pull out in time.

Withdrawal is the only method of contraception I'm currently using (and we only do that on "risky" days), and I've not fallen pregnant in 4.5 years (and I fell pregnant first or second cycle with each of my children)

Used it for nearly 20 years without getting pregnant. Got pregnant nearly 20 years later using this method, age 41.

I have two beautiful nieces because of this method 😂 I did tell much younger BIL at the time, "yeah it's not really gonna prevent anything"

He text me about 9 weeks after that "chat" ....you were right. 😂

Hmm yes this is what we do, and I've only ever been pregnant the two times I wanted to be (straight away too, so not like we've low fertility). We do avoid peak times so to speak.

My manipulative ex husband used to swear by this method and made me pregnant twice

I used this method for 2.5 years, only became pregnant when actually trying first cycle twice.

Used it for 2 years, no issues. Aware it's not the most safe however I think that depends on how skilled your partner is... Also important to have the conversation 'what if', just so you're both on the same page if an accident happens.
Personally it is preferable to pumping my body with lots of hormones 👍🏻
