Hi everyone, first time back on MN since having #1 in Feb 20.
This is 3rd month of TTC #2.

I started ovulation testing this month after having no luck previous 2 months - also my cycles are up the left since having #1 so wanted to try and understand when I'm ovulating. turns out it was on CD18.

I had planned to do SMEP this month but we have temp moved out of our house to renovate for a couple of months and all the upheaval has been exhausting for us and unsettling for my LO - he hasn;t been sleeping at all!
Still managing to squeeze in the BD though - more than last month so hopeful I've at least timed it right this month.

It's all so exhausting isn't it. I feel like I want this baby more than the last - I don't remember feeling this disappointed before with BFNs.

Goodgoodthings · 25/11/2021 13:12

Hey @Moonshine160 I'm sorry to hear you're feeling down. My cycles are pretty long so I know that feeling well and it's so disheartening. I'm at the part where I am waiting for a pos OPK and obsessing about whether I've already ovulated/wont ovulate this month and also feeling it a bit today.

Sounds like you have a lot to enjoy over December and I hope that it brings you a chance to relax and have fun and like you say, see what happens! I don't drink but the struggle to cut down caffeine with a wild toddler in the house is something I can't always do! I will probs take OPKs over Christmas but going to just try to enjoy the time. I think it's important to enjoy yourself and to try to not get too stressed with everything that TTC brings if you can.

Moonshine160 · 25/11/2021 12:22

I’m feeling a bit down about everything today. Only CD4 and I end up wishing time away so that we can get cracking with trying again. My periods are usually about 6 days long but it feels like forever!

Is everyone going about life as normal over the festive month?

I keep telling myself I’m going to cut down on caffeine (I have about 3 cups of either tea or coffee a day) and limit how much alcohol I drink over Christmas, but if I do that I might still not end up pregnant and I’m not allowing myself to enjoy myself! It’s my birthday in December too so have a few drinks out planned with my girl friends and Christmas dos. I think I’m still going to try and enjoy myself and maybe not track as much but DTD every 2 or 3 days throughout the month instead and see what happens…

Tjsmjs · 25/11/2021 08:12

@whatsthecraic91 I’ll give that one a go

@Goodgoodthings I am CD 4 today. Shift work makes it hard, plus DH works away often. He was away for the whole of October so that wrote that month off and last month he was only home for the first day of my fertile window and the day after ovulation. I can’t do BBT due to nights but this month I only have day shifts and one twilight so I’m giving it a go. In month I adjust the times I do my LH testing based on my shifts so last month I was testing early evening as I was on nights, this month I will be testing late morning as on days. Honestly I hate shift work- I’m in training and eventually I will be on days only but that it a year or two off yet!

whatsthecraic91 · 24/11/2021 22:42

@Tjsmjs caffeine free Diet Coke tastes the same I drink it when pregnant as I'm an addict 😀

whatsthecraic91 · 24/11/2021 22:41

@Goodgoodthings the socks thing is real apparently!! When I was TTC number 1 and having trouble I went to acupuncture & the lady said this. She said cold feet = cold uterus!

Goodgoodthings · 24/11/2021 22:15

I am sure it's a load of bollocks but you know when the tips get in your head and you think why not? 👀 It's been freezing lately though so can't hurt can it haha. Bet the lady from Amazon reviews is having a right laugh though!

@Tjsmjs where are you in your cycle if you don't mind me asking? It must be tough working shifts - my DH does too and it's tricky to plan all of this around that and nursery and my own job! Helps to be working from home though 🤓

Tjsmjs · 24/11/2021 22:00

@ExPatHereForAChat My biggest problem is eating regularly- I work shifts and don’t always get time when on shift to get a proper break. I also have a bit of a Diet Coke habit so I’m working towards eliminating that completely but I’ll miss the caffeine on nights. I don’t drink tea or coffee.

I might have to try double socks- I always have cold feet so even it doesn’t work least my feet may be toasty for once.

ExPatHereForAChat · 24/11/2021 21:41

That's hilarious, and sounds like something I would do!
I've been blasting the central heating so hopefully that helps.
DS was very unhappy at me refusing his 7am feed this morning but he had already nursed at 5am so I stayed strong. Really hoping I ovulate a little earlier this month.

Goodgoodthings · 24/11/2021 21:15

Welcome @ExPatHereForAChat I'm similar to you - still breastfeeding my 17 month old and noticing a shorter luteal phase. I've been having smoothies in the mornings and adding flax for the last couple of weeks so hoping this month it might help this cycle.

I'm only officially on my second cycle ttc as last month I was Ill in my fertile window so didn't dtd at the right time. But I'm so willing to try anything already 😂 one of the reviews for the OPKs I bought on Amazon said she got pregnant using them as well as regularly eating lentil soup and keeping her feet warm with 2x pairs of socks every day. I laughed at the time and showed my DH but yes I absolutely have been doubling up my socks and having soup for lunches. Ridiculous!

ExPatHereForAChat · 24/11/2021 20:59

@tjsmjs Ah, OK! My diet isn't dissimilar though I could up the avocados (time for some guacamole!). My DS has a nut allergy too so I hear you on that front. I've got quite a lot of flax in the house for him so will start adding that to my smoothies too I think.
Even if we don't fall this cycle, we'll be healthier!

Tjsmjs · 24/11/2021 20:56

@ExPatHereForAChat I’m trying bananas, lean beef, chicken, avocado and oat based stuff. Nuts are meant to be good but I’ve never been keen on them and DS has an allergy to them so I don’t have them in the house.
So breakfasts are now porridge (great for winter anyway), lunch is usually toast (I got a bread maker for my bday so make my own bread now) with avo or egg or cheese etc. Dinner is usually lean meat with veg. Still having chocolate etc on occasions but just trying these foods to see if it helps a bit. Who knows.

I’ve heard zinc is good and also vit C.

ExPatHereForAChat · 24/11/2021 16:04

Oooooh @tjsmjs what are you eating? I'm definitely willing to try a diet change. I've heard B vitamins help so have been upping the marmite.

Tjsmjs · 24/11/2021 10:14

@Chanel05 and @Goodgoodthings I hope that you both had a more settled night.

@Chanel05 It took 5 months with my son. First month using OPKs and temping so went straight into it this time.

@ExPatHereForAChat I’ve found myself ovulating later since having my son so my luteal phase got shorter. Mine was 10 days last month to. I’ve read it could be due to a lack of progesterone so I’m eating lots of foods trying to boost them.

ExPatHereForAChat · 23/11/2021 23:55

Can I join?!
Like a PP, I have a 2yo and have been TTC for 4 cycles now.
DS took 4 cycles so now I'm getting antsy!
Currently on CD5 of cycle 5.
I have a short luteal phase which probably isn't helping things. It varies but was 10 days last month. I'm guessing the fact I'm still nursing isn't helping so I'm trying to cut down as I've noticed I've been ovulating a couple of days later than I did when first TTC.

Hoping this is our month and baby dust to all!!

Chanel05 · 23/11/2021 21:38

Welcome @Tjsmjs ! How long did it take you to conceive your ds?

@Goodgoodthings I am taking this tip on for tonight if I need it! I feel as though I will.

Tjsmjs · 23/11/2021 21:33

@Goodgoodthings you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to survive- don’t feel bad for using something that settles her

Yes been using OPKs to track. I seem to ovulate around day 12-13 then period comes between 9-12 days later. I’ve been taking high dose vit c as that is meant to help but thinking of trying conceive plus as I regard good things about them.

Goodgoodthings · 23/11/2021 15:21

@Chanel05 I feel your pain 😵‍💫 it's so hard watching them poorly! Last night we watched the snowman twice on YouTube at 2am and she did eventually drift off. Parent of the year over here, but I couldn't settle her any other way 😔

@Tjsmjs welcome! Hope you're feeling okay, do you use OPKs right now? I seem to have a shorter luteal phase too so not sure how long it will take but trying to stay positive.

Tjsmjs · 23/11/2021 13:38

Hi would I be able to join? 5 months ttc baby number two. DS is 2. I have a short cycle with a short luteal phase so it is proving difficult. I had a short luteal phase with DS but seems to have gotten shorter since I’ve had him.

Chanel05 · 23/11/2021 13:35

Thanks for the advice ladies, I'll forget the temping. My dd hardly ever sleeps though anyway. Last night she was up between 1-4 with a cough, cold and teething so temping would have been completely pointless.

xxfxx · 23/11/2021 13:19

Day 8 still not AF, negative tests. No idea what’s going on. Going to stop testing and try and relax now and see what happens.

GreenFlipFlop · 23/11/2021 09:29

Wow I can't believe we filled a whole thread already!

Moonshine160 · 22/11/2021 20:28

Last month was my first using Flo and I’m going to try it again this month. I only use the basic one though, I don’t pay for the premium one. Does anyone know if it’s any good?

Also has anyone given evening primrose oil a go? I’ve just ordered some from Amazon. I don’t get much EWCM so I’m hoping it could help.

girafferafferaffe · 22/11/2021 19:08

What app is everyone using? I used Ovia last time and downloaded it again but wondered if there were better ones?

Goodgoodthings · 22/11/2021 18:51

Hi everyone, still here as well 😅 just about to get into my fertile window according to Flo so we'll see - hoping neither of us get poorly this month! Still plodding along with the same stuff (prenatal vitamins, OPKs) and enjoying the run up to December hoping that maybe we'll get a bit of Christmas luck.

I tried temping for DD1 and found it to be a nightmare as I'm not a great morning person. This time I have a toddler who still isn't sleeping through so think I've got no chance 😵‍💫
