TTC 30 months- Clomid help!

Slug123 · 02/11/2021 11:48

Hi all,

Been a while since I've been on here but I need some experience from real people!

Just been to a gynaecology appointment after failing at TTC for 30 months, 2.5 years. For background, I've had 3x bloods, internal and external ultrasounds, and a HSG as well as OH having SA and everyhting is (to quote) "really good" i.e. results are great and nothing appears to be wrong yet we still can't get pregnant.

They've given me two options. Wait another 6 months as "it should happen" (wanted to punch her at this point!) or try Clomid for 6 months to see if that helps. However I feel like she was trying to put me off Clomid by saying I'd be at high risk of OHSS because I'm ovulating normally every month.

My gut tells me to try the Clomid but I'm concsious that could be my emotions just desperate to get pregnant. I've also looked online and can't see any scary stats to put me off so I wanted to ask some normal people of their experiences?

Thank you!

TTC 30 months- Clomid help!
ladyge · 04/01/2022 01:13

@Riviera90 oh another thing I forgot to mention - don't stress if they didn't up your dosage. You ovulated at the current level so Clomid is doing its job for you.

I read a study where they were saying if someone ovulated at 50mg increasing the dosage had no further effects or made them release more eggs (multiple births) .. fingers crossed you get your BFP this cycle!

ladyge · 04/01/2022 01:11

@Riviera90 hey - I totally get how you feel. I'm so bummed having left 2021 without my baby ☹️ I'm hooding 2022 will bring us our bundle of joy!

I just finished round 3 of 150mg Clomid - im not sure if I said but they're not going to be monitoring me anymore so im kinda doing this blind now. My periods are very irregular; so I induce my period each month. However - someone on here suggested taking Myo Inositol to help regulate my periods. So I'm not gonna induce it next round.

I have ordered some OPKs from Amazon but I've been told with PCOS and Clomid it can give bizarre results. But hey ho - gonna give it a go.

How did your first round go? I was feeling so positive for you that you'll get your BFP. Did they tell you what happened?

Riviera90 · 30/12/2021 18:36

Hi @ladyge hope you are doing ok? X

Sorry, I took a little break from MN as I was feeling pretty down about everything and coming to the end of another year with no BFP!

Have you started your 3rd Clomid cycle? It might be good to try a cycle with OPKs just to see what’s happening.

I’m on clomid cycle 2 and trying it with extra progesterone tablets to see if that helps make my LP longer as it ended up being 1 day shorter last month even though my progesterone blood test results were really good! I’ve already been given 50mg clomid to try next month the doctor didn’t seem to keen to up my dose x

ladyge · 14/12/2021 12:24

@Riviera90 sorry I didn't answer you fully .. I haven't tried ovulation sticks because I've heard it doesn't work if you have PCOS or are on Clomid. So I didn't waste my time with them.

We have sex regularly so I don't think the ovulation sticks will add anything additional but maybe I should try them just to see what's going on

ladyge · 14/12/2021 12:17

@Riviera90 it is upsetting 😩 I do feel quiet neglected by them ngl. Apparently no more bloods are needed I'm just gonna do it blind now on 150mg for the remaining time I'm on Clomid. I will be doing cycle 3 when my period arrives.

Apparently I can't get metformin because I need to see a doctor in person to speak about it. I asked for an appointment and they said no 🙁 I'm not too sure what to make of all this tbh.

Oh no - I really hope it's early signs of pregnancy pains and not periods. I hope you get a positive! My fingers toes and everything else is crossed for you.❤️

Riviera90 · 08/12/2021 21:21

@ladyge I’m sorry you’re having such a bad time of it! I cannot believe they’re just leaving you to it for 6 months with no monitoring or appointments, it just seems crazy!!

What does metformin? Are you going to be able make any appointments with someone in the clinic to get it?

Have you ever managed to pick up an ovulation on OPKs? Did the nurse tell you what your levels are? I had my 21 day bloods done on Tuesday so just waiting to hear the results of those but I feel like I’m already having period pains today and it’s going to be another short LP sadly 😞

ladyge · 08/12/2021 10:55

@Riviera90 I heard back from the nurse. Apparently I haven't ovulated again. My cycles are very irregular so i don't know how doing a blood test on day 21 even tells them I haven't ovulated. Confusing. I have so many unanswered questions but they won't see me / let me speak to a doctor until I've done my 6 months with Clomid. I heard metformin works well with Clomid and they refused to give me that too until I've seen someone in the clinic.

I did ask for the follicle scan and they said they don't offer follicle scanning at the hospital 😭 which is so annoying.

I didn't think I had ovulated i don't know why but I just had the feeling. They've upped my dosage to 150mg now. I have to do my 6 months with Clomid before they refer me to IVF (sounds so daunting). I really don't want it to get to that .. I really hope my body responds to 150mg (which apparently is the highest I can do)

ladyge · 07/12/2021 21:50

@Riviera90 I hope you don't have to go for round two! Fingers crossed you get a BFP this month!

I don't think I ovulated this month either. I haven't heard back from the doctor, I did chase it up yesterday because it's been over a week but apparently the doctor dealing with my case is on annual leave and the receptionist didn't get time to speak to anyone else😒 the NHS is absolute crap.

I have been feeling slight cramping here and there but did a test this morning and it's negative. So not too sure what's going on.

I have heard Metformin and Clomid work well together - so I might give that a go this cycle 🤷🏽‍♀️

I do really wanna ask for scans too but I feel like they'll just say no .. they are so crap at dealing with all this. I hate how I'm having to chase this up it's frustrating me even more!

Sorry for the rant Hahahha I just needed to get it off my chest

Riviera90 · 29/11/2021 21:57

@ladyge Haha I did go for a second scan today and only two follicles/ eggs so he’s given us the go ahead!! Did say there’s still a real chance of twins though.

They usually only do one scan around CD12 but it is still comforting to see what’s going on in there. I would definitely ask your doctor!

Have you heard back from the gynaecologist about whether you ovulated? Fingers crossed for you that you did and had a good progesterone level! X

ladyge · 28/11/2021 22:40

@Riviera90 hey! That's really good news! Glad you responded well. Id be tempted to try even if that means I'll have twins haha!

Im so jealous you get weekly scans! I wish they offered me that, I might ask the doctor for scans if I don't ovulate this cycle.

I just had my day 21 scan on Friday and I'm waiting to hear back from the gynaecologist if I ovulated. Fingers crossed I hear back Monday / Tuesday.

Im not too when I ovulate because I have PCOS so ovulation sticks can be misleading so kinda just have to wing it each month. It is definitely a pain not knowing what's going on tbh.

Riviera90 · 26/11/2021 23:57

Hi @ladyge, how are you getting on? Have you ovulated now? X

I went for my scan on Thursday and he said that he was hoping to see 1-2 follicles but there were actually 5!! So he was a bit shocked and has asked me to go back on Monday for another scan. So he’s asked us to be safe until then and if there’s more than 2 still growing on Monday then to leave it until next month as the risk of multiples is too high 😩 so we shall see but just really worried that we’re going to miss ovulation by having to wait until then anyway. How many days after your last clomid pill did you ovulate?

He wants me to keep trying clomid though and go for a lower dose next month.

ladyge · 24/11/2021 15:07

@Riviera90 aww! Fingers crossed! I hope this does the trick.

I can't help but just have thoughts that this round isn't working for me either 😢 it's such a slow game waiting each month.

I wish I was offered scans too but I'm just relying on blood tests atm.

Let me know how things go with you too x

Riviera90 · 20/11/2021 22:13

Congratulations on your wedding @Slug123!!
Love a winter wedding. We are meant to be getting married 10.12.22 but think we’ll have to postpone as baby comes first.

@ladyge it’s strange how everywhere does things differently! I have also been told to get the day 21 bloods done though. I don’t think it will affect my ovulation (well I hope it won’t) as I ovulate every month but I was given clomid as a way to help boost my progesterone levels and give me a longer LP so hopefully it does the trick. That’s good you haven’t had too many symptoms, I haven’t either really just noticed that I’m really thirsty!

Please keep me updated and I hope it works for you this month too x

@Allshallbewell2021 dad 😂. That’s amazing that it worked for you to give you your Dd!

Let’s hope the success stories keep coming 😁

Allshallbewell2021 · 20/11/2021 17:18

Dd not dad!

Allshallbewell2021 · 20/11/2021 17:17

Hi, Clomid worked for us over ten years ago when I finally got pg with dad. It was our last chance really. But it worked as I was told I was 'sub-fertile'

ladyge · 20/11/2021 17:15

@Slug123 good luck and congratulations on your wedding! I hope everything goes smoothly for you! ❤️

ladyge · 20/11/2021 17:14

@Riviera90 that's incredible! I haven't been told to have any scans. I wish I did tho! I only have 21 day blood tests which confirm if I have ovulated at the current dosage.

Fingers crossed I hope it works for you this cycle! I'm on cycle 2 at 100mg. I didn't ovulate at 50mg unfortunately so they increased my dosage. I don't think my symptoms were so bad tbh. I had random cramping and backache etc the usual pre-period aches around ovulation time but that's about it. I haven't felt much different at 100mg either so far but I'm not sure if that's just because it's too soon 😂

Please keep me updated with your progress! It's nice to have someone to speak to that is in the same boat

Slug123 · 20/11/2021 17:11

@Janejanedoe86 thank you for the good news story and congratulations!

The doctor prescribing mine won't be able to do scans due to their facilities but at this point I'm willing to try anything!

We get married next month so we've decided to wait until after that and then start in January.

Fingers crossed for everyone and please, please keep me updated as this is all really giving me hope.

Interested to see dosages too as I wonder what I'll be on.

Riviera90 · 20/11/2021 16:46

@ladyge You’re exactly one week ahead of me! Did you have a scan? I was originally told I would need a scan on cd12 but I’ve contacted the clinic twice this week and haven’t received a response yet so will give them a call on Monday.

I’m only on 50mg and taking it between cd2-6, this is my first cycle. What dosage have they given you? Have you had any side effects?

ladyge · 20/11/2021 13:48

@Janejanedoe86 congratulations Jane! I can't wait to post my success story too once I'm in the same boat!

@Riviera90 I'm currently in day 12 of my cycle. Could be ovulating any moment now. What dosage are you on? And how many cycles have you been on Clomid?

Riviera90 · 20/11/2021 12:38

@Janejanedoe86 that’s amazing, congratulations!!! I hope your hormone levels keep rising and you have a happy and healthy 9 months ahead of you 💛
Thank you for posting back on here, you’ve given me hope! I’m on day 3 of 5 on my first cycle of clomid and I just really want it to work.
Hopefully we’ll see some more success stories on here over the next few weeks 😊

Janejanedoe86 · 20/11/2021 10:00

Hi guys i commented on this thread a couple weeks ago (see above) and after 10 years of unexplained infertility and 2 months on clomid i just got my BFP!!! I cant get too excited as my hormone levels are low so might end in chemical but to even get pregnant means so much. Good luck everyone i know its going to work for you too 💓

ladyge · 20/11/2021 01:30

@Slug123 I'm literally in the same boat and have started taking Clomid. I think it's worth giving a shot if it's not working on its own.

Good luck and let us know how you get on x
