Clomid-takers - Winter Thread (It's not September anymore!)

nomoremagnolia · 06/12/2007 13:51

Went looking for the Clomid thread and thought it might be about time to start a new one!
I'm starting cycle 6 of Clomid tomorrow - AF showed up this morning. At least she didn't keep me waiting like last month.
Hope it's all gone quiet on the thread for a good reason

Really- started on 50mg, and was sure that wasn't enough. A doc mentioned early on about upping dosage, and I was so frustrated by the lack of adequate care and support that I hd from my consulting team that I did a lot of research online and chatted with docotrs etc....upped to 100mg and it worked. You can go up to 250mg. The frustration is that it only really has 6 months to work, so going up slowly is not necessarily an option...

Hold onto the fact that you did it once, though.

All well with bump-learning to wadlle!

Hello all....can't really help re: motility question. Our problems were all down to my PCOS.

reallyheartbroken · 30/01/2008 19:41

Makecakesnotwar - what dosage of clomid did you go up to? I'm already on 100mg.

12 tests! That's amazing. I'd done 3 and thought that was bad enough.

Hope all well with bump.

loulou28 - I'm afraid I'm a bit of a novice to the whole clomid thing but my dh has also got lower than average motility and we still managed to get pregnant (just not able to maintain it unfortunately this time). We hope for better luck next time.

Hope everyone else OK and things going well.

makecakesnotwar · 29/01/2008 13:33

Reallyheartbroken- my GP said to wait a full cycle post mc to make sure that everything was back t normal. I confess it as sort of a relief not to be trying to hard. Then I spent the time chatting with a doctor on mn about my dosage and decided to up it without consent from my consultant...the first month I had a 28 day cycle for the first time, and the following month I was pregnant. I am not condoning taking medicine without your consultants consent, but it clearly worked for me....I did 12 tests to be sure.

Welcome Lou, and good luck!

LouLou28 · 29/01/2008 10:30

hi

Im Louise its my first time here, and me and my hubi have been trying for over two years to get preg and nothing so i am startin my first month of clomid on Thurs and i hope to god it works.

IV BEEN TESTED AND APPRENTLY IM FINE HAD A LAP AND DYE AND HE HAS A LOW SPERM COUNT BUT ALREADY HAS A CHILD SO WHAT ARE MY CHANCES ???? I HAD A MISCHARRIGE ALMOST 6 YRS AGO (((((((((

reallyheartbroken · 28/01/2008 20:48

Hi makecakesnotwar - thank you so much for telling me your story. It does make a big difference to know that someone else has been in the same position as me - and who now is happily pregnant. And that someone can understand how I'm feeling.

Thank you.

How long did you wait before starting the Clomid again? Did you have one cycle after the mc, without the mc? That's what my consultant has recommended - but I'm just keen to get back trying.
Thanks again

makecakesnotwar · 28/01/2008 14:03

Reallyheartbroken- there is very little I can say at this point that will make a ifference, but please know that you are not alone. I conceived on third cycle of Clomid then miscarried at 6 weeks in June. I was inconsolable, but did it all over again on cycle 5 and am currently 22 weeks and counting every blessing... It really isn't an easy road, and I doubt very much that knowing I did it will make you feel happier or more positive. But please do not lose heart. There are some very supportive mc threads I couldn't have done it without the support. Thinking of you and sending big hugs.

reallyheartbroken · 27/01/2008 18:12

Hi All

Just looking for some words of support/advice really.

Have completed two cycles of clomid and both blood tests showed not ovulating. Got what I thought was my AF so started taking third cycle of clomid but then thought AF was so light that perhaps I could be pregnant. Did a test and it was positive. Went to docs who sent me to hospital who confirmed I was pregnant. However, I miscarried and am now feeling very low. Have been back to see the consultant and he said that the proof was in the fact that I got pregnant - eventhough bloods showed wasn't ovulating and dh's sperm isn't mobile enough!
I've also just read that miscarriages can be caused by a hormonal imbalance (which obviously I have as progesterone not high enough).

Anyone been in a similar situation? Got some positive words for me?

Congrats to Sam - I saw on another thread that you're pregnant.

Congrats to Awen too - your ds (both of them) look lovely.

xx

thanks tigerschick i will try and think positive as i already have a beautiful ds who has gave me smiles all day!!!!

do you no what days your friend took clomid?????

Tigerschick · 16/01/2008 15:19

I know exactly how you feel, sambrads. I didn't ovulate on 50mg. I didn't ov on 100mg either, so I'm now up to 150mg. But there is nothing to say that you won't ov next month; as I've said further down, I have a friend who didn't ov 1st time but did 2nd and conceived on the 3rd - all on 50mg.
Also - see if you can find Awen's story. It's very inspiring for the likes of us.
Fingers crossed for next month - and back to sex just for the fun of it for a bit

sambrads · 16/01/2008 14:14

well i got my results back and i have not ovulated so another month of nothing!!!!

she said i could take 50mg 1-5 then if nothing happens next month it will be up til 100mg feel like shit really do!!!!!!

Tigerschick · 16/01/2008 12:22

I was also told to take it days 2-6 but I have a friend who was only given 4 to take.
I guess it depends on your particular situation.
Safest to go with what you have been told to do.

nomoremagnolia · 16/01/2008 11:23

I was told to take it days 2-6, but I'd go with what your doc has told you.

nomoremagnolia · 15/01/2008 19:35

I know I ov'd in the first cycle as I had a day 21 blood test, but no monitoring after that so can't be absolutely sure, but I think it was working. Will let you know what they say at the hospital...

OP posts:
Tigerschick · 15/01/2008 18:50

Oh, nomore, so sorry that you have gone through the whole cycle. Can I ask, were you responding to the Clomid? It hasn't been making any difference to me, yet, so I don't know how long they will let me take it for.
Really hope you get some news soon

nomoremagnolia · 15/01/2008 16:54

As things stand at the mo I'm not really qualified to be on this thread any more. 6 months of Clomid and not pg so am back to hospital in a couple of weeks to find out what they're going to do next.

Hello???

Don't know if anyone is still checking this thread but I know what we're all like - we check to see if anyone has posted before we decide to post ourselves ... usually.

Quick up-date on me, incase anyone is interested. I was given Metformin before Christmas and was told that it should make me have a period within about 3 weeks. So when I got to 6 weeks of waiting I phoned my specialist and I went for a scan this morning. My womb lining was 10.1mm thick, which is better than previous months but still not enough, apparently. So now I'm back on provera as well as Metformin.

Hope everyone else is OK, any BFPs over the festive period??

Rachee · 16/12/2007 19:26

hello all, just thought i would drop into this thread, i was on clomid for 10 cycles over 2 years..... now have a 15 day old boy !! so it does work.... eventually. or was it the fact that we got a puppy in september and then moved house in december then concieved feb ! so go out and order a puppy and a house from santa !! LOL....

Did m/c twins , then after 8 months of TTC lost other twin to DS at 6 weeks.... i am a fan of clomid, but it does take time to get into your system, i kept spreading my doses out ie, had few months off here and there to give my DH chance inbetween mood swings.....

Good luck all, i wish you all sucsess xXx

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 16/12/2007 08:12

Hi RHB - I wasn't ovulating on 50mg or 100mg either. My specialist said that I should do 2 months at 50mg to see if it took a bit longer to 'kick in'. At 100mg tho, she changed my dose after one month (I have yet to take 150mg, I'm waiting for my period).
However, I have a friend who conceived her ds with Clomid and IIRC she didn't ovulate the first month but did the second and third, which was when she conceived.
