Hi all, I'm back (packed dd off to bed, mug of tea in hand...)

I'm an August baby. I was the youngest in the school when I started reception but it didn't do me any harm - I'm a bloomin' genius

dd's birthday is in May and I can see a difference between her and some of the older sept children - mainly in her handwriting but nothing major. And having a may baby meant I had the whole summer off on maternity leave - result!!

(ps - this is a sympton spotting thread but I have no symptoms to spot )

cb I am in the UK yes, and if it was a summer like last that would be OK :O then again I wouldn't wish the summer of 2007 on anyone again LOL

I've never had a reservation over when my baby would be born, I selfishly wanted a summer baby so that I get summer off and can throw outdoor birthday parties.

Before we started ttc I always thought we would stop ttc'ing in March so as not to get a december baby (and save on the cost of xmas), but now we're actually ttc I can't imagine stopping just in case we miss our chance!

Claire - all I remember is having ankles like an elephant! They're the one bit of me that remains slim, no matter what the rest of me is doing... until August heat and a rather large bump! But, honestly, if it was so bad then I would not be b-ding like mad in an attempt to do it all again at the same time of year.

I wondered about the August baby thing too cbcb. I've also been wondering that if this month isn't our month (8dpo at the mo so will know either way in a week or so) whether or not I want to be pregnant over the summer. The tubes are bad enough then with the heat as it is without a huge bump. Not sure I really want to stop trying for a few months though so humm on that one!

Cbcb - yep, at first, but they catch up. I stupidly sent dd to a nursery where they didn't start her on with things as early as other children because she was the youngest (16th August). This did not help to bridge the gap! I've always worked with her on things to try to bring her on.

By the time that they reach secondary there does not seem to be a difference - I've had really bright students who are streets ahead of their peers who are August birthdays; I've also had weaker students who are the oldest in the year.

I think, like with most things where children are concerned, it's what the parents put in to their kids' education. If you encourage them, then it won't be an issue.

charting temps not for everyone, but if you have irregular cycles then i'd say it's a great way of working out when you've ovulated so you don't end up taking loads of early tests and seeing loads of BFNs.

I'm only on cycle 3 and felt like i needed something more than looking for EWCM as a way to tell. I get the odd day of EWCM right up to AF, so it's not the best indicator for me.

Thanks DG. Taking a temp should be fairly easy then, as long as my beastly cats don't decide the termometer is a toy and spend their time batting it around the room (they're not beastly really, I just like to make out they are ).

I'm just curious. There are all these different things that can be done and I don't think I'm going to go down the route of temping just yet. It's only cycle 2 but maybe if we're still TTC come April or May I'll think about taking more control. I'm also quite curious to know exactly when it is I do ovulate.

sarah no [tut] called up for them, but surgery said they'd not come in yet and to call on Friday evening.

glastochick you have to take your basal body temperature (BBT) which is your resting temperature in the morning when you wake up. You can't get out of bed to take it so stick the thermometer on your bedside table or under your pillow. Don't drink water beforehand or get up (e.g to go to the loo) for three hours before you take it.

However, it's still not over for you...how long are your cycles normally?

Feel shure AF is on her way too. Bizarre though getting spotting on Thursday and Friday last week. Sore boobs have calmed down a LOT, and now I have a low niggle that feels like AF pains.

DG - I am holding your grapefruit suggestion responsible for the - frankly - horrifying amounts of ewcm I'm producing at the moment. I'm having to wear sanitary towels for it!! Eurgh!!!! (sorry tmi). If I don't conceive this month, I'm buying shares in Always - this is going to get expensive.

Well, bit of a surprise this morning - AF turned up. Can't believe how upset i felt, i think because, as i said yesterday, i so wanted to be able to give DH a bit of good news at this time. CD25 as well, never, ever had such a short cycle before. Don't know what on earth is going on. Better go over to the other thread and move myself to the top of the list.

GG pleased to hear about your re-booked holiday. And just go for it at the in-laws - if they want a grandchild they'll have to put up with it! How about some ear plugs for them both for christmas?!

Missushohoho welcome - don't worry about when you are on the 2ww, come here any time - i don't think many of us actually leave at any point in our cycles!
