Hello Everyone,

I just wondered how long it took you to conceive you're first baby? I am 22 and my partner is 24 we have been trying since December 2020 so I know its not long in the TTC world however each month is becoming harder and harder to come to terms with,
Full breakdown today when AF came, as I thought this was my month. We are both are eating fertility friendly foods, moderate exercise, drinking lots of water. I am taking folic acid and my partner is on wellman conception tablets.

I used to track with OPKS but I found it too stressful now we just have regular sex every other day during most of the month tbh. I never had EWCM but I do notice when I am ovulating compared to other times of the month.

i am just at loss and I don't know if its normal to still be ttc this long in?
note- I haven't been on any contraception pill/implant since 2017.

@JB14C hi there, I’m currently ttc my first baby too. I’m 5 months in now. I just wondered how you got on in your journey? Hope all went well for you xx

10 months i was 30. I didn't track ovulation but did track my cycle. Don't put too much pressure on yourself anything less than a year is considered normal

newtb · 17/06/2021 21:13

Took me once, twice. The first time I spent 3 weeks feeling extremely nauseous but not sick and had sinusitis for the first time in 2 years. The fact I could have been pregnant gave us a wtf moment. 2 months later I was pregnant at nearly 41.

Before I stopped the pill I was 100% convinced I couldn't get pregnant, so didn't get hung up about it. Had a fiancé that used to promise to pull out. And never did so spent every month scared I was pregnant from 14 to 17.

Decided to give it 12 months and, if after 6 to see if we wanted to continue. Bit of a shock at the time.

I've read orgasming during sex helps too which I think it mentioned on that amazing YouTube video about the pulses pushing the sperm along

onthecathunt · 17/06/2021 20:58

First cycle for DC1 and DC2, we've had quite a few friends go through fertility treatment so very aware how lucky we were. I had awful complicated pregnancies so feel like I pay my dues at that stage!
I used an app to track my cycle and had sex every night for 4 nights over my ovulation date and each time would lie with a pillow under my bum and legs in the air to let gravity help things along!

Re: sex only every 3-5 days, is that only if there's a sperm count problem? I followed the Sperm Meets Egg Plan, but a recent study suggested if there were no sperm issues there's the best chance with sex every day over the fertile window.
I think they were suggesting it over the entire month if people dont track fertile window.
@abbs1 ah that’s interesting, perhaps I’m going overkill? Because sometimes baby dancing does feel like a chore Hmm xx
@JB14C hi lovely, I saw somewhere that gynaecologists recommend having sex once every 3-5 days as the sperm quality is apparently better and sperm live up to 5 days. Im sorry I cant offer any other advice. I really hope you get your bfp soon.

Chanel05 · 17/06/2021 18:27

Conceive not convince. Sorry, fighting my daughter off my phone!

Chanel05 · 17/06/2021 18:26

It's in the normal range to take up to 12 months ttc. You don't hear about longer stints such as 10 months because people don't brag about it the way they do as a 1st/2nd timer 😉.

It took me 8 months to convince and then I had a mmc. I then took another 8 months to conceive after my surgical management with my now dd. My great frustration was that the 12 months begins again after a loss.

I truly get your frustration and sadness. Both times I conceived I'd really thought it was never going to happen. Statistically, you're overwhelmingly likely to be having a booze free Christmas and fall pregnant by December 31st.

miltonj · 17/06/2021 18:18

1 month and that ended in miscarriage.

Then once my period returned it was another 7 months. So just under a year in total from deciding to try, to getting a positive test (that stuck)

Perfectly healthy, fertile couple can take 2 years to conceive. It's just a patience game in most cases. Good luck!

Popcornbetty · 17/06/2021 17:50

miracle *

Popcornbetty · 17/06/2021 17:49

@JB14C no problem at all, ttc is for sure a terrifying all consuming and longed for journey! Oh no the video, it is a miricle isn't it?!i remember watching that and turning to dh and saying bloody hell that will never happen to us!
Op you are so young and have so many positives on your side so very likely it'll happen for you soon 🌟🌟🌟🌟

JB14C · 17/06/2021 15:09

@PurBal wow that's good! and yes will do, I think I just need to stop being so obsessive ( easier said than done ) Wink

@Pyewackect that sounds like the best way to get pregnant!! love it :D

PurBal · 17/06/2021 15:06

Not long. 10 weeks between coil out and BFP (2nd full cycle). But 1 in 6 couples need support to conceive and we had prepared to be in for the long haul as so many family members had has MC and IVF. Take it easy, enjoy having sex and if you don't get your BFP speak to your GP later in the year.

Pyewackect · 17/06/2021 15:05
 1. Honeymoon baby. Too much rum punch and beachcomber cocktails.
JB14C · 17/06/2021 15:02

@Ohpulltheotherone thank you for this message. i think you are totally right. i am really trying to focus on myself and trying to do more self care because sometimes its so easy to get stuck in this horrible mind set. yes you are right, I think I'm just worrying because when you hear people around you getting pregnant so fast, and by accident etc just leaves you to think doesn't it.

but yes, i think im going to give it another 6 months and try and enjoy the summer and then if nothing after xmas ill book in to see whats what. im just going to keep my fingers and toes crossed... xx

Ohpulltheotherone · 17/06/2021 14:57

It’s SO hard to not obsess when you are trying to conceive but you do need to try and reframe your mind perhaps?
You want a baby and it’s most likely going to happen. Yes there can be issues but also it can just be timing and things just not lining up exactly.
The positives are that you are young, healthy, you get strong OPKs and your cycles sound very typical and average.

Chances are you will conceive within the next 6 months. In the mean time try to find other things to enjoy and use your spare time on, yoga is a great idea, so maybe find a couple of interesting hobbies so that you don’t find yourself worrying about ttc every spare moment you have.

It’s great that you’re so committed but to keep your mindset positive and open, try reframing ttc as something exciting you are doing alongside your every day life, basically enjoy the time you have before baby because your life is now - it doesn’t start when you become parents.

Essentially I’m saying try to enjoy the journey and not make it all about the destination (being pregnant).

If by xmas you haven’t had a positive result then speak to your GP and take it from there.

Best of luck!
