Stories/outcomes of BFP and prolonged bleeding???

I am wondering what the outcome of bleeding for more than a couple of days was for others. I started bleeding and cramping last wednesday, not as heavy as period bleeding but enough to need a tampon. It has continued 7days now. On Sunday (5th day of bleeding) I took a pt to see if I was pregnant as I had other symptoms and it was a definite bfp.

I rang the EPU and they have said to take another test in two weeks. I am very early. probably 2-3 weeks. I am just wondering what to expect. The midwife seemed to suggest that it was likely a miscarriage.

Would I be foolish to hope for a good outcome?

@Providence6 trust your gut instinct. If you can wait for another week, that's fine. But just FYI; my ectopic was already 4cm and it didn't hurt, at all. Actually not many experience pain, only after it ruptured, but that's another story.

RoseAndGeranium · 14/06/2021 23:24

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Tbh I think the fact you're still experiencing nausea on waking is a good sign, because for me that was the first thing that went, but of course it's different for every woman. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you, and I hope you have a lovely holiday. x

Providence6 · 14/06/2021 00:54

Thanks @Bundaberg84. How are you coping??

I can cope with waiting another week..I wish I could know now of course, but I have mostly given up hope, no point building my hopes up. I am going on holiday this weekend so the distraction will be good. I just wish the nausea would completely go so that I don't keep waking every morning and thinking to myself 'Am I?'!!!

Thanks @RoseAndGeranium. I am really going on what I have read about cramping and bright red, prolonged bleeding-I don't think I can trust the tests at all- and going on my loss of symptoms, I just think it would be unwise to hope for anything now. Thankfully the bleeding stopped after 8 days, I only noticed some very tiny clots, nothing else. I am not sure there would be much else to see at this very early stage (probably 2-3 weeks when it happened) ?! And I only had cramping on the second day of bleeding, so thankfully no more of that. It would be nice to know either way, but I just have to be patient. I have read a lot of posts now about cramping and bleeding and it seems that for many it is ok as long as you only have one, but not both!

Thanks @feliznavidad2 for your message! I would only be 4 weeks now I think. I am not sure though as this was only my second cycle as I am still breastfeeding DS1 12months on, so my period was slow to return. I only really had bad cramping one day (thursday 3rd of June) and it was the day before that the bleeding started (steady bright red flow, not as heavy as my period, lasted 8 days). I am not really concerned about ectopic as I think I would maybe still be in pain if that were the case? my symptoms only really started that day that I had the sore cramping and I feel like they would probably get stronger if I were still pregnant, I had strange taste and smell was starting to be affected, and nausea, and tired. I only really have a bit of nausea on waking now.

Oh @Providence6 how stressful. I’m sorry. For what it’s worth I don’t think the line is getting any fainter, and the concentration of your wee can affect that anyway. The other posters are right: you should talk to your GP so that if this is still going on in a week or so you can get an early scan. Hopefully it will give you some reassurance, and if not you can rule out or pick up something like an ectopic. Is the spotting changing at all? Or is it quite stable?

Bundaberg84 · 13/06/2021 16:30

@Providence6 some tests don't get darker. I honestly don't know how this particular one would get darker. You could try a digital one where they say how many weeks along you are. Or you go get your beta hcg tested in your blood. I think it would help your anxiety to see a GP? And I don't mean that in a negative way please don't get me wrong, I totally understand you and I did the same after all.

feliznavidad2 · 13/06/2021 16:29

@Providence6 I really don't think it looks much lighter. What a stressful time for you.

How many weeks are you? If you're experiencing pain and bleeding, then really you need a scan to rule out an ectopic - I would think. Hope you're as ok as you can be.

Providence6 · 13/06/2021 16:11

Hi @roseandgeranium I am just grieving. I dont even know for sure that the pregnancy is over but from what i have read prolonged bleeding AND cramping is a very bad sign. I am only having very slight nausea in the morning too which doesn't last very long, so i am guessing the hgc is working its way out of my system. I did another pregnancy test this morning (number 3 on the pic, number 1 i did last Sunday) and i think it looks ever so slightly fainter??? Would it be getting darker if i were still pregnant? I do still have fleeting moments of hope but i think i am torturing myself.

Hey @Providence6, how are you doing?

Bundaberg84 · 09/06/2021 16:31

@Providence6 thank you hun! Yes, he's absolutely great. And for you, don't lose your hope!

Providence6 · 09/06/2021 16:25

@Bunderberg84. I hope your hubby or partner is a good support to you at this time, and I wish you the best for next cycle!!xx

Well we are similar @Bundaberg84 in that we haven't been TTC for long, but it is still as gutting isn't it. I know I didn't think I would be this gutted and I don't even know for sure yet, but apart from having a felt a little bit of nausea this morning when I woke I don't have any other symptoms now so I am not building my hopes up.

@RoseAndGeranium thank you so much!

RoseAndGeranium · 09/06/2021 14:14

@Bundaberg84 Really sorry to hear your scan didn't give you the news you'd hoped for. Wishing you lots of luck for the next try, whenever you feel ready for it.

Bundaberg84 · 09/06/2021 13:56

@Providence6 so the first cycle ended in February with a chemical. March was nothing (I think I sabotaged it a bit tbh), April we took a break, and May is the cycle I got pregnant again. So, while it feels long, it certainly isn't.

Providence6 · 09/06/2021 13:04

Awh @Bundaberg84 I am really sorry to hear that. Had you been trying a long time?

OP posts:
Bundaberg84 · 09/06/2021 12:41

@Providence6 sorry hun, unfortunately not. I don't want you to lose hope though! As I said, in 50% of all cases it's going to have a positive outcome!

Providence6 · 09/06/2021 12:39

@Bundaberg84 how did your scan go? I hope it was a good outcome for you :D

Hi @Ktd88 thank you for taking the time to write that. These stories are giving me some hope that everything might be ok. I am still bleeding today so we are now on day 8. I am not going to torture myself by taking pregnancy tests as if they show up BFP I still cannot be sure that that is the case. It is really difficult!

Bundaberg84 · 09/06/2021 08:23

@Providence6 I'm 5 weeks and 6 days today. Still bleeding. I've got a scan in two hours, but my ob/gyn wasn't really concerned as my hcg levels were good, he said "it's not normal, but that doesn't mean it's bad".

Ktd88 · 09/06/2021 07:43

Hi @Providence6, I hope you're doing ok this morning just wanted to tell you about my experience with bleeding in early pregnancy in case it helped. I bled from about 6 - 8 weeks (light bleeding, no clots), convinced I was miscarrying, so phoned the GP who booked me in for a scan. Everything was fine, the prolonged bleeding was caused by a bruise from implantation. I think that early pregnancy bleeding can be normal (but that doesn't make it any less frightening). The wait is so tough, my fingers are crossed for you that you have a positive outcome. X

Providence6 · 09/06/2021 05:58

Thank you SO much for taking the time to reply. I have just gotten up out of bed and I actually do feel a bit nauseous again, so hopefully that is a positive sign. I don't want to torture myself by continuing to take pregnancy tests until some time has passed.

Thank you again! I really appreciate it!!!!

Don’t lose hope yet!
For me, with both miscarriages, my pregnancy symptoms (nausea, fatigue) had been gone for a few days before the bleeding and cramping started.
In both successful pregnancies I also had days here and there in the first trimester when I felt less dreadful and of course I’d worry that something awful was happening but then the symptoms would flood back the following day. In my first pregnancy one of the less sicky days coincided with a little gush of red blood and I thought that was it for sure. But then the bleed turned back into brown spotting, the next evening I felt wretched again, and a few days later the vomiting started and I figured baby was still on board. It was Christmas as well, so we were visiting family and there was absolutely no way to get an early scan or anything. God, the stress.
But really, from reading loads of MN threads I get the impression that experiencing reduced or absent symptoms for a day or so, especially very early on, is totally normal. That leaves you just waiting and seeing, I know, which completely sucks, but it really might all still be ok.

Providence6 · 08/06/2021 23:51

Hi @RoseAndGeranium, thank you for sharing your experiences. Do you mean other pregnancy symptoms that you had had started to disappear? I actually "feel" less pregnant this evening. Last week I had bouts of nausea and a strange taste in my mouth at times, I was gassy and congested, but I have just noticed tonight that I think all that is gone. Sad I started to notice this earlier in the day but I guess I didn't want to just jump to the sad conclusion that the pregnancy is over. I just don't feel prepared to accept that. I was only coming to grips with the exciting prospect of having another child!!
