Hi all!

I just joined MN today and I've been reading this thread for HOURS (ttc related panic attack(ish) at 2am paying off).

I don't know any of you but @Lastyearttc and @Mattieandmummy posts had me almost tearing up. Congratulations to you both and crossing all fingers for everything to go well!

I am 42 and after a stupid series of unfortunate events culminating in a global pandemic, surgeries etc, I now can go back to TTC but feeling terribly scared and almost hopeless. I feel I'm too old and I've also have hypothyroidism and can only see hurdles and more hurdles. The more I read the more I feel what's the point. So lost...

But anyway, that's why reading this thread has helped a lot! So glad to see good things happening. :D

@sabtom great to hear from you and congratulations on the low risk results. I can’t wait to get to the stage you’re at. It sounds like you’re being closely monitored. Glad you’re feeling better about scans too. I’m dreading my next one at 8 plus 2 as I know it’s a bit of a make or break one. Hoping I’ll relax a bit more once that one is over. I’m considering having the nipt at 10 weeks so we can find out hopefully all is well a bit earlier.

Hoping for a very non eventful second trimester for you. Xx

sabtom · 14/08/2021 18:15

Hello ladies! Sorry I've been a bit quiet on this thread for while, I've been trying not to obsess and worry too much about this pregnancy so staying away from the internet is quite refreshing. I hope everyone who has their BFP's are doing well and good luck to all who are TTC, don't give up hope, I nearly did and then bam! It happened. 41, trying for 2.5 years and 1 miscarriage. The day I got my BFP was the day I had my appointment with the IVF nurse to order the meds ready to start. Even with the first BFP, it was the month I was due to start IVF, so maybe trick your body into thinking you're starting IVF and it'll kick into gear lol 😂

So I had my 12 week scan yesterday along with the results of the combined tests, all low risk and it turns out I'm a week ahead, so the baby was actually measuring at 13 weeks! Next scan is at 21 weeks 28 then 36. Apparently I'm high risk for pre-eclampsia so I was put on 175mg of aspirin till 36 weeks and gunna be closely monitored.

Although the midwife said baby is looking and growing normally I still can't help feeling anxious, but now being in the 2nd trimester I definitely feel a lot less nervous going to scans 😅 Thanks

Trying to conceive over 40
Lastyearttc · 14/08/2021 09:24

Hi all!
For those that remember me I have had a break from it all this cycle due to me being away from partner over fertile window. So I haven't been temping or even taking any vitamins. Have also been drinking most days due to my 2 week holiday and it was my 43rd birthday on Wednesday... I was even out just last night having cocktails and wine... anyway... realised I might be having a longer cycle and boobs looked a bit different... so I've just done this!!! OMG 😳

redandwhite1 · 14/08/2021 07:42

Giving you all hope that after 18 months of trying I am 11 weeks pregnant and just turned 40 ❤️

99pctpractice · 14/08/2021 07:41

Woop! Amazing way to start the weekend @Mattieandmummy , congratulations!!!

Catconfusion · 14/08/2021 06:45

@Mattieandmummy oh wow, didn’t want to read and run. That’s amazing news. I’m so pleased with you. I’ve got everything crossed it sticks! Xx

Mattieandmummy · 14/08/2021 05:23

There's a second line! Am crying now

Mattieandmummy · 14/08/2021 05:23

My husband is away and it's so early because my daughter gets up so early and I have to tell someone so I'm telling you guys because you'll understand the craziness of this!

But there's a second line! There's a second line on a FRER. Oh my God

Marvellouslymadmum · 13/08/2021 23:51

@Catconfusion oh yes it's absolutely worth it! I ended up spending some time in hospital whilst pregnant with my son and the itchy rash was the worst thing I've ever experienced but I wanted another straight away after and fell pregnant just 7 months after I had him with my daughter 😂
I don't envy you with your sickness though, I do hope it's better for you soon

@Honey2 that's great to hear! I do like the positives and actually I've spoken to a couple recently it makes a change from all the negativity. @Catconfusion maybe it's more of an old fashioned view these days which is very refreshing

@99pctpractice good luck for your Ivf I do hope it all goes well for you

Catconfusion · 13/08/2021 21:32

Thank you so much @Honey2 believe me I’m not complaining. We are very very lucky but I’m not going to lie, it is hard at the moment. It’ll be ok though eventually. Xx

Catconfusion · 13/08/2021 21:31

Thank you @99pctpractice, it’s also so lonely. DH is having to do so much more as I’m ill so I’m spending a lot of time alone. There’s just no rest from it. Even when I’m asleep I’m aware of the nausea so could literally sleep for a week. When I get down I then feel guilty because we’re so lucky to have this pregnancy. It’s such a difficult one mentally but we’ll get there and it’ll all be worth it. Xx

Catconfusion · 13/08/2021 21:27

@Portlandia glad to have helped and I’m glad you’re feeling more relaxed. It’s so hard at our age to just let nature take it’s course but I think with the time the chances are good. Hoping for good news for you soon. Xx

Honey2 · 13/08/2021 21:26

@Catconfusion I forgot to say the hyperemesis sounds horrible… sorry you have to go through that! But soo soo pleased pregnancy is developing well!

@99pctpractice exciting news about the IVF! I’ve everything crossed for you x

99pctpractice · 13/08/2021 21:19

@honey2 that is so great to hear. so much of what I read and hear is so negative about fertility over 40 and it’s good to get a more positive perspective!!

@Catconfusion so glad your pregnancy is progressing, but also sorry to hear about the hyperemesis. A friend had it and it was totally debilitating, so I really feel for you. Hopefully it doesn’t last so long for you this time!!

@Littlemiss41andfabulous that’s great news. So exciting that you are starting to feel a bump!!

I have started a round of ivf. Not enjoying the injections so much, and I am still a bit anxious about whether we’ll get any embryos to transfer at the end of it, but i think it helps to feel like I am doing something. I have been sleeping really badly due to anxiety and getting really down each month when my period arrives. somehow handing the process over to science is making me feel a bit more relaxed - though that will I’m sure all change when we get closer to egg collection / transfer! Re the progesterone : my ivf schedule provides for 400mg of cyclogest progesterone twice a day post- egg collection. I will also have to take a lubion 25mg injection once a day as well which i think is also a form of progesterone. But more artificial progesterone support may be needed in ivf because they are disrupting your natural cycle so much with all the medication….

Portlandia · 13/08/2021 20:29

@Honey2, @Catconfusion and @Mattieandmummy
Thanks for sharing these positive comments, they're really hope giving and helpfully challenge the negative stats on the Web. I'm feeling more hopeful and relaxed about conceiving since we first started trying almost a year ago. Quitting coffee has helped me feel more relaxed and patient (though it was pretty painful to start with!)
Fingers crossed for us all xxx

Catconfusion · 13/08/2021 19:05

As I’ve said before, I’ve never been made to feel like it was odd to have a natural conception over 40 with ds or this pregnancy. Or when I had my mc at 39, the doctor laughed when I said I was worried about fertility at my age. Even the midwife recently said on the phone she expected I’d be back with a second baby. If it was that uncommon over 40, I can imagine there would be more surprise at appointments. Although I know some people have had more negative experiences Xx
