Tracking your cycle and possible BFP using RHR - part 6

Hi ladies,

This is for all of us with heart rate monitors who wish to help each other analyse the RHR patterns throughout our cycles.

Early research shows there's a correlation with increasing RHR and BFPs - so let's try and spot some together!

Ahhhh @GlassLily thanks so much! I find it really reassuring that you experienced this too. I can imagine how gutting that must have been to go through so many CPs 😔- did your doctor ever do a blood test to see if there was a reason behind this? (But also hugest congrats....17 weeks in is excellent!!)

I'm going to be much more savvy next month, I refuse to let me body trick me again!! It really is so blooming difficult telling apart PMS and early pregnancy symptoms. I've had uterus cramps since 5DPO so I really have no idea, now that I've had a BFN, why that would have been!

@Gizzy93 hello!! I had no idea you could overlay your RHR over your BBT chart like that! (Appreciate I might be late to the party here with this one lolz)

Gizzy93 · 27/08/2021 01:43

Hello, I hope I can join! I'm currently 4dpo. I mostly use bbt to track my cycle. We are not ttc, but I can't do birth control anymore and I need to know where I am in my cycle. I would love a baby in the next few years so I am keeping track and learning about it all.
This is my second cycle using BBT and my first using RHR

@bfnancy I used to get this all the time - increase straight after ovulation, then another increase at what would be implantation time - lots of false hope! I think it just varies from person to person. Like with BBT - I usually get a triphasic chart which is just normal for me, I assume the reason is linked to what my rhr does too. For my first 2 bfps, my chart was similar to usual but a few bpm higher after implantation. They were both CPs so rhr dropped off about a week or so later. Had another cp which was totally different, I don't think it implanted properly as my cycle and rhr were totally normal but I got a vvv faint bfp.

Then for my current pregnancy, it shot up from about 4dpo, and then about 9dpo went up again (higher than ever before). I was still reluctant to believe I would be pregnant, due to aforementioned false hope, but got a bfp at 10dpo and now I'm 17 weeks. So I'd keep hoping even though your rhr will totally troll you - but maybe reserve getting super excited for really big rhr increases!

bfnancy · 26/08/2021 12:21

@EveryMumDay my RHR took about 10 days to go back to pre-pregnancy levels after, I did exactly what you suggested and took my fitbit off as it made me too sad to watch the decline :(

@Juno231thanks for having a look through your charts!!

Juno231 · 26/08/2021 11:41

@bfnancy hm I've had troll charts where my the stayed high and got me hopeful but I don't think I've had any cycles where it's gone up properly.

@LS2020 yeah I think for most the trigger is out by 7dptd. I'm glad your OH took the Fitbit off you and also I have seen soo many women on MN have zero symptoms and still have bfps. Including for IVF cycles :)

EveryMumDay · 26/08/2021 11:29

@LS2020 well done to your OH in removing your Fitbit 😊 do enjoy your holiday 😊

EveryMumDay · 26/08/2021 11:27

Hi @bfnancy, thank you and I'm also sorry to hear about your loss. It's never easy to cope with it.

Regarding the rhr, I noticed a big 3bpm jump on 8 days after my peak on opk (Saturday 7 August 2021).

Then it remained the same for 11 days.

On 14 days after getting peak it remained same so I tested and showed bfp making me 3+4.

However, last week Wednesday 18 August 2021 19 days after peak, my rhr dropped by 1bpm and thought something terrible is happening. Everyday it dropped (4 days) until Sunday 22 August 2021 it jumped to 1bpm.

Monday 23 August 2021 morning started to bleed with rhr increasing by 2-3bpm increase.

Tuesday 24 August 2021, pregnancy test and showed by, as not pregnant on both clearblue fertility monitor and clearblue digital with weeks. However, got an extremely faint line on first response early and first response rapid with the HCG blood test confirmed it being extremely low for 5+1.

Only yesterday (Wednesday 25 August 2021), rhr dropped my 1bpm and same again today dropped by 1bpm.

I'm sorry if I can't be much help right now. However, I would say to remove the Fitbit and try to relax/divert your mind elsewhere (easier said then done I know). Lots of hugs.

bfnancy · 26/08/2021 09:32

Hiiii everyone - please can I (very belatedly) join this thread?! I've been tracking my BPM a bit obsessively over the past few cycles of TTC and it's lovely to know there's others doing the same!

I'm really interested to know if others have had RHR peaks that might suggest pregnancy, but then get a BFN?

I keep thinking I'm pregnant as I get a BPM rise around 9-11DPO that mimics exactly what happened with my RHR when I was pregnant a few months ago. Sadly that ended in a MC at 6 weeks (biggest hugs to you @EveryMumDay ...it is so devastating) - so I keep thinking I am spotting all of the same signs but then get a BFN.

This month got me good....I've had loads of uterus cramps and my BBT temps have fluctuated a lot...reeeeeally thought I was preggers but there was not even a hint of a line this morning at 12DPO! I feel like my body is tricking me!

LS2020 · 26/08/2021 08:24

@GlassLily thank you! I know and it’s daft because I do have symptoms and then don’t so there’s no making me happy 😂 my OH has taken my Fitbit off me now too because he’s sick of me talking about it 🤣🤣

GlassLily · 26/08/2021 08:14

@gezelligheid agreed, it's too early to read into it. Could just be a weird cycle!

@LS2020 not worth trying to second guess symptoms in my opinion, right up to about 8 weeks pg I had times when I didn't feel pregnant at all, so not feeling much isn't really a sign of anything! Gosh the wait feels so long. So excited and nervous for you 🤞🏻

LS2020 · 26/08/2021 06:42

@Juno231 yes but that was a week on Saturday ago so would think that would be mostly gone now? Some women test it out though to know it’s gone and should have done that!

@mumof23188 thank you! I’m feeling a bit of nothing really! Progesterone is still hammering me a bit but thats only good I guess but starting to feel disheartened I don’t know feel more?! RHRs dropped a small bit but I’m also on first day of holiday so probably makes sense I’m relaxing. Plus even if I was pg from this cycle I still don’t think I’m far along enough for RHR to be impacted by it so I’m now just loco 😂

@EveryMumDay take care of yourself ❤️ You’ll get there with your rainbow baby one day.

@gezelligheid it’s honestly still so early at 7dpo it’s hard to tell, you probably won’t have even implanted for your body to know you’re pregnant to then raise your RHR so there’s still lots of time!

gezelligheid · 25/08/2021 16:55

7dpo and my RHR has been going down since 4dpo. Usually it rises until about 12dpo and then drops a day or two before AF but this month just a straight drop Confused

Thank you ladies.

Yes, indeed I told my husband yesterday when the worst happened when in reality I wanted to give him the reveal gift but sadly didn't end on a happy note.

Upside is that going for blood tests tomorrow to see if HCG has cleared out and then next week plan what the next steps could be. Either a second cycle of monitoring or IVF.

Wishing all ladies the best of luck, these tww is indeed feels like a lifetime. Hang in there and take each day as it comes.

mumof23188 · 25/08/2021 15:48

@LS2020 how are you doing? Hope the progesterone isn’t to bad for you. Hope your little egg is getting nice and snug 🥰.

@EveryMumDay so sorry for your loss ❤️

Juno231 · 25/08/2021 14:48

@LS2020 is there a trigger to wait out first?

@EveryMumDay I am so so sorry to hear about your loss. Does this mean you didn't get to tell OH until the worst had happened? Unimaginable to have to go through that :(

OP posts:
LS2020 · 25/08/2021 14:23

@Juno231 I need to! It’s stayed the same and now I’m sad 😂

@EveryMumDay sorry to hear you’ve gone through that recently. Take lots of care of yourself and comfort from your OH.
It’s a good sign the cycles worked though and it’s an option to try again when the time is right.
I totally understand though if this IVF cycle works, my due date will be one year after my due date on my MMC and similar my OHs birthday is on Friday and we’ve remarked how odd it is that I’ll technically be pregnant for two of his birthdays but we still don’t have our little one. It’s a hard wave of grief.

@GlassLily thank you! I’m on 2 x 400mg pessaries so ugh! I really hope so 🤞🏻 Official day is a week on Friday but trying to get through til Monday and if I do then I’ll be pleased. My RHR is high and if that stays up I might early test 🙈

GlassLily · 25/08/2021 06:19

@EveryMumDay so sorry for your loss. Hope you are keeping your head above water, the shock and grief of it all is so hard after the initial happiness isn't it. Especially second time around. Thoughts are with you while you try to process this! One day you will get your rainbow baby, but you'll never forget the ones who could have been ❤️

@ls2020 huge congratulations on your lovely little egg! Hope he or she is snuggling in and really holding on tight. I'm so hopeful for you, it's great news that you got such a good quality embryo, every reason to be optimistic! I hate progesterone and I assume you're on a higher dose than me. I was overjoyed when I was finally able to stop taking it. It'll be worth it in the end though! Hope you can find a way to distract yourself the next few days, when will you test?

@gezelligheid I don't want to get too carried away here.... But from memory I think I had lots of watery discharge before my current BFP. I had that, and also rhr which went higher than ever before at about 9dpo. I'm 16 weeks now! So I'm rooting for you, could be a good sign. Keep us updated!

EveryMumDay · 24/08/2021 21:36

Hello ladies.

Sorry I've been quiet, as was going through a rough storm of happiness then straight to sadness. My first cycle of monitoring with private clinic on medication and got my bfp on Fri 13 Aug (week 3+5 days). Only tested as my rhr remained very high on the same figure for numerous days so thought let me see what is happening. Didn't tell anyone of the results, not even my husband, except told my consultant the results, as we are on monitoring cycle 1. I wanted to surprise my husband on his birthday Tue 24 Aug and even got a reveal present for him.

Sadly, yesterday morning (Mon 23 Aug - week 5) I started to bleed with clots and today morning (Tue 24 Aug - week 5+1 days) went for a scan and HCG blood test. Nothing showed up in scan, as it was too early and blood test results received now saying the numbers are too low for week 5+1. I suspected something going wrong, as wed 18 Aug rhr dropped by 1 and kept dropping each day until Sun 22 Aug rhr started to increase and today it's jumped up by 3bpm to what it was when I tested on Fri 13 Aug.

Now, just waiting for the next plan. It's very sad one minute you have happiness and the next minute it's snatched from you. My second MMC and both the MMC happened the same time last year and again this year.....feels like déjà vu a very cruel joke.

However, I won't give up and will press ahead for the next plan and keep moving on.

Hope you all ladies are keeping well, keep safe and most importantly keep strong.

Juno231 · 24/08/2021 09:27

@ls2020 Ha yes take it off! or at least disable the RHR function in the app. I'm looking forward to bank holiday monday for you then!

OP posts:
LS2020 · 24/08/2021 05:51

@gezelligheid yes 5DPO is way too early, you’ve probably not even implanted at this point so try not to worry!

@Juno231 going to Northumberland for the time so a couple of hours drive away which will be nice. Official test date is 3rd September. I reckon I’ll probably crack bank holiday Monday 😂 I think I might have to take Fitbit off. It’s gone up to 64 now and it barely went above 62 all night so it’s deffo gonna drop soon 🙈

Juno231 · 23/08/2021 20:35

@gezelligheid 5dpo is too early for anything so you're def not out!

@LS2020 ooh are you going anywhere or staying here? When is your official test date btw and when do you think you'll actually test? 😅

OP posts:
gezelligheid · 23/08/2021 19:52

5dpo rhr dip by 3bpm. Bad news or still in with a shot? (pink arrow is o day)

LS2020 · 23/08/2021 19:33

@Juno231 ooh that’s a good tip will try that! Yes but I’ve been on that a week and only gone up last 3 days, must be it building up. I’m on holiday from Wednesday so thinking I may stop then as I’ll probs relax and it’ll drop and I’ll freak out 😂

Juno231 · 23/08/2021 15:40

@LS2020 also you'll be on progesterone now no? that will make rhr shoot up so maybe just turn that function off until test date...
