We were supposed to wait a few months to ttc. I decided to track my cycles, as I havent tried to conceive for a few years and wanted to get to know my fertile days.

I had a positive opk on the 27th and it must have gone to my head, because we had sex that night and definitely didn't prevent. A few hours before, I felt something go 'pop pop pop' in my left ovary area (I always feel ovulation). I was out for a walk as I felt it, and the evening sky was so beautiful and I felt all misty eyed about creation. Everything inside me was telling me to go for it, so we did 🙈

The next day I had that feeling of panic, like 'what have I done!' 😄. Then that was replaced by an unbelievable sense of giddiness and excitement to the point I started wondering if I was going to have some kind of reverse panic attack! Honestly, I was so excited that I was nearly sick! I am a 38 year old grown up!

You see, I had thought that ttc was off the cards as my husband didnt want any more kids, but he recently changed his mind out of the blue, to my complete delight, so it's like a dream that I am able to consider another.

The problem: I am absolutely convinced that I am pregnant, or that I will be in a few days when the egg implants. The thought that I am not pregnant seems impossible. The day that I conceived I wrote in my ovulation app 'diary' that I knew it would happen that night. (I just read this back to myself and noticed how I said 'conceived', not 'had sex').

I keep wanting to tell people I'm pregnant, including my boss (to help make decisions about staffing allocations). I just had sex a few days ago! Oh, and it's a boy, as if I'm not being ridiculous enough! I have even named him!

This is totally ridiculous! There is only a 20% chance of conception each month I think, and I am sure that decreases with age. This is our first month trying! There is every reason that I will not be pregnant!

I am constantly going around with a horrible sense of giddiness and excitement that is not congruent with reality and is actually physically uncomfortable. I feel like jumping up and down and squealing with joy at many points throughout the day.

Does anyone else feel like this? I am normally a very stable, pragmatic and generally realistic (possibly overly hopeful at times) person and this is totally bonkers to me! Please, can anyone relate? Or can a very sensible mumsnetter come along and give me a stern deflation?

I actually feel like I can't do another week of this. I have felt excited to the point that I wonder will I actually faint! Smelling salts anyone????

Help!

(If, by the reasonably high chance that I am NOT pregnant, I will update this thread for any other ladies going totally bonkers to help them get a grip of themselves too! Even when I was typing that, I was saying to myself 'yeah right, as if I'm not pregnant!'.

Help!

Thank you! Have started thinking about those 'work plans' that I thought I would be abandoning and some other life admin details that didnt feel sorted enough.

All my symptoms have gone but there was one weird thing that happened today. I dont drink but was thinking about having a glass of wine (normally cant stomach it)but didn't. Then earlier was going past a restaurant and some people were having cocktails outside and I was almost grabbing my throat in drink-lust
My husband had a pint tonight and I asked for a few sips. I could have sank the lot and had to stop myself (alcohol makes me pretty ill). Ah it was so good! Think that is a highly unusual pregnancy symptom...its almost a not pregnant symptom 😄

Anyway, life is still good, God is still God!

I have really loved being part of this little fun club (well, it was fun for me at least!). I will be back with either more musings or embarrassing symptoms, or with an update next week.

Happy Saturday!

Good to hear, love your mindset. But I'm still rooting for you!

Anonapapple · 08/05/2021 18:52

Thanks everyone. You're all so sweet!
I have had such a sense of peace today that I havent had in a while. I went for a nap and slept so deeply and soundly and just feel very contented with all the blessings I already have! What a strange 2 weeks!

You're not out until AF showed up. And not all pregnancies are the same, after all. Fingers crossed!

MyCatIsADentist · 08/05/2021 15:55

I read this thread with my heart in my mouth waiting for the denouement! Sorry it wasn’t this month for you OP, but fingers crossed it happens for you soon! Your lovely excitements reminds me so much of the first month I tried to conceive. It’s amazing how something can be simultaneously commonplace and completely extraordinary, so I think it’s fine for you to be a little excited about it ❤️

Anonapapple · 08/05/2021 15:48

Yes I certainly will! I cant leave this thread hanging, can I?!!!

This morning I did a test with fmu but it was very diluted and the tests are 25 miu. I was staring at it for so long that I realised I actually was starting to go mad. I got in the bath and just prayed and realised that the most important thing was that I was living within God's will for my life, whether pregnant or not, and I am. Soon afterwards, I got a very specific headache that I only ever get before I get my period. I decided to test one more time with a frer with a good concentrated hold later in the day and leave it at that. I did, about an hour ago and it was a negative. I know everyone says 'but it's still early'. With my other children I had blazing bfps by 10dpo at any time of the day. I'm 11dpo and there is nothing, and that to me is my cue to be at peace with the fact I am not pregnant and have just had an extraordinary cycle, heavily influenced by emotions. My period is 5 days away and it will be a fresh start, a new cycle and I will have learned so much from this one. It was also amazing to see two bfps on the thread too, and be part of a really lovely sisterhood as you all held my hand. I already have a very blessed and happy life, so no matter what happens in the future, I'm not losing anything and have gained a very interesting and quite fun experience with you ladies!

@hewegoagain sorry I just saw your message. Where did you learn to temp and what sort of thermometer do you have? Interesting that you were able to get a glimpse into the innards like that! Is your thermometer in Celsius?

Who wants another new symptom? Suction nipples! Like when you are pumping milk and your nipples get sucked into the pump and are kind of clamped in there! I never get breast tenderness, not before my period or in previous early pregnancies, but I do get random milk let down sensations off and off, though I havent breastfed in 2ish years.

Any silent mumsnetters reading this who are similar dpo and want to swap compelling symptoms? Anyone else having all the symptoms but not the positives?

Join in and keep me company while I lose my sanity and dignity a bit too.

😄

@naevo I really am sure that tomorrow will be a new day for you and you can start planning your next fertile window!

New 'symptom' guys. Hard to put it delicately, but my bottom puffs (trying to make a fart sound sweet) are terribly l, terribly potent and actually stopped me in my tracks with the thought, 'Did that come from me '? Obviously my bottom puffs are normally scented like unicorn sprinkles, so this was out of the ordinary. It does sometimes happen during af, but never before.

Just realised that if I'm not pregnant, I will have shared details of my cervical mucus and sensitive fartage info online for no reason!

hewegoagain · 07/05/2021 19:38

@Anonapapple I actually had no idea about temping until this month bit decided to start taking it just in case, as the premom app has a place to track it.

I normally run really cold (around 35.5°) so when it spiked to just over 36° on 13dpo, I had a 'huh, that's odd' moment. Whoch led me to google and then revealed that rising hch levels (i think) can lead to a spike in bbt.

It may have just been wistful thinking when I read that, or maybe it is actually true and it does mean what it actually meant for me. Honestly there's so much stuff online it makes it difficult to distinguish what it true and what isn't. Like pregnancy related carpal tunel 😂

naevo · 07/05/2021 19:27

@Anonapapple definitely, it's a tough day today but I know I'll be looking forwards from tomorrow 😊

naevo · 07/05/2021 19:25
@naevo I did temping this month too and the big give away for bfp was a temp spike of about 0.5°C at 12dpo.

@Anonapapple your lovely posts are making my day xx
Yes! I've heard this on a few other threads about bbt. This is what makes me want to do it, I think it'll be good to pin point ovulation and have an idea about what's happening after, prepare you for the good/bad. The only thing I worry about is my son is not great at sleeping in, he needs telling to go back to bed every morning every now and then so don't know how accurate mine will be as you need 3 hours solid sleep?

Anonapapple · 07/05/2021 19:12

@hewegoagain what do you think the temp spike at 13dpo represented?

OP posts:
Anonapapple · 07/05/2021 19:11

@bundaberg84 I am totally rooting for your ovaries. Hope you pop a good one and it gets intercepted by a good swimmer! In school nobody mentioned that its dicey lottery and nothing means anything!

@naevo I am so sorry to hear that you got your period. I think the first day is the worst, and after that you start looking ahead to the new cycle. Tempting does seem to be very informative so why not!
@hewegoagain oh thank you! Your bfp made my day!

Just got a pizza in. I collected it from the pizza place and as I was coming home just felt a lot more at peace about things. I peed in a cup, 2 hours after my last bfn and just decided that enough was enough and I had to take control back. I chucked the urine down the toilet and decided to forget about it. I will test once a day from now on. I wish I hadnt started this early testing malarkey but dont feel like I can stop now!

@Anonapapple

Had a sore wrist today. Immediately off to Google.

Obviously pregnancy-related carpal tunnel syndrome.

😂 your only saying what we all think.

Sadly today AF has turned up late (I'll convince myself it's implantation until tomorrow when I can deny it no longer).

I'm going to try temping for cycle 6. I mean, why not add something else I can obsess over 😊

Bundaberg84 · 07/05/2021 18:27

Around next Thursday if it's a regular cycle. Which is conveniently exactly when I have 4 off days, Thursday to Sunday. Not planned, our office is just closed.

True! And if what they teached us in school were true, we were pregnant all the time. Every day of the cycle you will get pregnant.

@Bundaberg84 if I could give you a big old pre-Covid high-five I would! Amazing!

When do you ovulate? Would be interesting to see how you feel then! We could compare our 'ether' babies. Fake little babies to name and care for, like tamagotchis that never even existed!

I'm going to have to stop indulging these emotions. A bit of escapism is healthy to a point, but this is getting silly now!

Part of it is because Just 17 magazine always said that if a boy looked at you when you were on your period, you could definitely get pregnant. So when you actually 'do it' with a boy, on the day you ovulate, it's kind of a no-brainer you will get pregnant, surely?

What a thread! You go @Anonapapple!

I also started thinking about which room would be best for the nursery, I am convinced it's going to be a girl and I also calculated how many weeks I'm going to be in July when we go to France visiting family and if it's alright to tell them then, and I HAVEN'T EVEN OVULATED YET THIS MONTH so yeah I feel you.

I also don't want to jinx things but hey, here I am!

Anonapapple · 07/05/2021 15:16

Me again. Next installment.

I have had that total shell shocked feeling all day again. If people talk to me, I feel so spaced out and answer them in slow motion. I'm sure there are many people reading this thinking 'this woman is insane!'. That's why I havent told anyone what I'm experiencing, because it all feels so bizarre. I am very distracted with all of this, and do imagine that that is playing a huge part in how disorientated I feel. The not knowing is very frustrating too. I just wish I wasn't so convinced I was pregnant. Every bfn is a step closer to the realisation its not happening and it's all in my mind. Maybe it's better like this, so that my period isnt a total bolt of shock next week.

Anyway, thanks for listening. I wouldnt dare share any of this in real life as I sound so deluded. Maybe I am! Time will tell.

Hope you're all having a great day!

@hewegoagain by a few days you must mean in a few hours? 😁 I am so delighted for you! And so exciting that you start making changes like the decaf! Woohoo!

@Moominmiss hopefully something will show up over the weekend. Had cramps yesterday and day before so hoping something would show up by tomorrow. Part of my problem is that I drink a lot of water and am parched without guzzling gallons a day! So my wee is almost always extremely diluted, even in the morning. Or I'm just not pregnant!
