Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@hopingforababyh I got my peak this morning 😭 CD19. I've got a ridiculous amount of ewcm, the most I ever remember having so hoping this is all positive. Not temping so taking this as my positive! Look forward to trying soy iso next month to bring my ovulation forward as this is quite late. I assume my period will be late now too so it'll be a waiting guessing game as to when that is.

How are you?

hopingforababyh · 26/03/2021 12:09

I've just had a name change from moly39, in not some random person 🙊😂

How are you two getting on? Have you both had confirmation of any ovulation yet? 🤞🏻

choccrumpet · 25/03/2021 12:08

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes the flashing smiley ones and yes this one was still flashing. Hmm okay, comparing them to normal strips the line colours are fairly similar normally. I'll keep waiting for my static smiley anyways 🤞🏼🤦🏼‍♀️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/03/2021 11:15

@choccrumpet that's the flashing smiley ones? I think that you can't read the lines inside for those (could be wrong) because its a combo of estrogen and LH. Is it still a flashing smiley?

choccrumpet · 25/03/2021 10:59

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that would be ironic but it sounds like you've covered yourself well anyways!

But I'd much rather that than bding for over a week like we have every 2-3 days and increasing during my ewcm and still not getting a positive 🤦🏼‍♀️ my clearblue looked so close to a positive this morning so am going to test again today although my premom strip wasn't anywhere near to a positive, so strange!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/03/2021 10:50

Its ironic if I have successfully moved my ovulation forward but then completely missed it as a result

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/03/2021 10:48

Thanks choc, I think it must have been yesterday then. OPK's are meant to give you pre-notice !! God confusing 🤣 So I did the day before yesterday, yesterday twice and today. I'll aim for tomorrow also. Lesson there is if you take soy, start opk testing and having sex much earlier than when the opk instructions say to 🙈

choccrumpet · 25/03/2021 09:58

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 to be honest I never got to the point of understanding that part! I believe the way it works is in hindsight, so you'll only know you've ovulated once it happened. I think the dip is when you ovulate but don't take my word for it. So if the lowest temp was yesterday then ovulation happened then according to what I know? (Again not sure im correct) so today you are 1dpo. But it's not too late either, if you can continue to bd today and tomorrow that should help too - SMEP

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/03/2021 09:46

@choccrumpet can I ask your advice (or anyone else who temps)?

I had a positive opk yesterday, a positive opk today, however from my temps I had a rise this morning above my coverline (went from 36.37 to 36.59). I know I need 3 days to confirm, but does this mean my opks were wrong and I actually ovulated yesterday or the day before?

In which case, bugger, because I didn't have enough sex in the run up. Because my ovulation was so much earlier, and my period was quite long

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/03/2021 23:08

Tbh at this point I'd be really happy with December! Hadn't actually crossed my mind.

I'll be right there with you! We'll never be so healthy :)

moly39x · 24/03/2021 22:33

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I think I'll just take the one pill, seen as it was for energy but I need to do the research on how much my partner can take as he's happy to! Also after @choccrumpet pointed out, if we were lucky it would be a December baby which my partner doesn't like the thought of possibly sharing the date with other important dates so, if it happens then forever grateful but if it doesn't this cycle, I won't be as upset as I have other months 🤷🏼‍♀️ next month though.. I'll be on the soya, the folic, vit D, maca root & a glass of pomegranate juice every day - a right cocktail of drugs 🤣

@moly39x gosh confusing! I would take that as 2.5 g. Will you use just one pill, or try to cut one into tiny bits to top it up?

choccrumpet · 24/03/2021 19:11

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it's still great news and I'm sure you'll see the change in your temp too 🤗

@pinkpirlie we didn't really have a conversation around whether to try now or not because of December due date but I'm a Christmas Day baby and would prefer not to have another birthday so close to it but if it happens it happens and we'd be over the moon 🤗😅

@moly39x there's a chance my period due date will get pushed back if I'm ovulating later so my luteal phase may stay the same but period due later so longer cycle. And sorry I can't help figuring out the supplement, it sounds very confusing!

moly39x · 24/03/2021 18:51

Then I've just seen it says equivalent to 2,500mg which is 2.5G? God I can't cope 😂 maybe I've just answered my own question 😅

moly39x · 24/03/2021 18:50

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh that's amazing it's hopefully bringing it forwards! I hope mine does that next month, even if we don't get a BFP that will still be helpful! I'm so excited to see how you get on with the SI this month 🤞🏻🙊

@choccrumpet oh I hope you soon get the positive opk so you can stop having to worry, I stressed so much one month because I didn't get it until CD21 but I do have longer cycles and matched up, I know you said you have 28 day cycles! 🤯

Without sounding dense, I'm so confused by the dosage of these vitamins 😭 can anyone work out how many g are in one? If I work it out based on the 250mg back, that's 0.25g? I read 3.1g is good for fertility (although taking for energy, I'm keen for any help I can get with these) so am I right in thinking if need rather a few tablets? As the pack says 1 a day? But then 10:1 makes it higher doesn't it? Gosh I've confused myself so much today I've bought powder to have in a smoothie 🤯

I've ordered some of the Amazon ones to try next month.
We aren't TTC this month due to predicted Xmas day DD, and I would prefer baby not to have to share a birthday with Xmas.
I don't get much EWCM (if any), nor a strong OPK reading, but my temps do increase; so I am really hoping they will help.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/03/2021 17:55

@choccrumpet the EWCM sounds good! I need to wait for temp to confirm I def ovulate before counting it as a yay. But feeling more positive.

With the flashing smiley ones I did 1st morning urine. I've got the bog standard Clearblue tester this time, and so just holding for three hours.

choccrumpet · 24/03/2021 17:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 out of curiosity, how are you using your OPKs? Are you holding your pee for 3+ hours and not drinking much fluids or using fmu or something else?

choccrumpet · 24/03/2021 17:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's brilliant!! And here I am on CD17 and still no positive 😓 have had lots of ewcm so am taking that as my positive.. you're definitely convincing me to try soy iso next month!! I think a mini congratulations are in order 🤗

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/03/2021 15:13

Hey just thought I'd update, I have just had a positive opk on cycle day 12 or 13 (of a 30 day cycle). Last month I didn't get a positive opk (just flashing smileys), and the month before it was at CD 21.

pinkpirlie · 24/03/2021 13:29

Oooh & d'oh!
I have read it again...
A serving is 50mg, but a serving is 5 tablets! Shock
I've never taken vitamins before where the serving is more than one tablet. How strange.

pinkpirlie · 24/03/2021 13:17

I thought the pills are the same strength as the Amazon ones - 50mg? Or am I missing something?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 24/03/2021 13:12

@pinkpirlie I might be wrong, but I think you have to take a lot of capsules with that one to get a 50 mg serving. So to get to the max dose, you night be looking at 20 pills?

pinkpirlie · 24/03/2021 09:08

I've been thinking of trying these so this thread came at a good time.

I found these which are a bit cheaper than the Amazon ones, even with delivery:

choccrumpet · 24/03/2021 08:46

@moly39x my cycles are 28 days normally. Late ovulation might push it to be a bit longer. Had cramping last night and lower back pain that felt like cramps. I couldn't test properly with an OPK as I didn't hold my pee in for long enough. Today am feeling nauseous. So something is happening. Will keep testing throughout the day to see if I get a positive. CD17 today, so definitely late for my cycle length.

You're not crazy, it's desperation making us to try anything we can that may potentially help. I'm going to stop introducing new supplements for now and see how I get on with aspirin / soy iso next cycle
