Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@choccrumpet no I need the reality check, thank you!! Keep me sane 😂 You're right its early, and also testing isn't going to change the outcome.

Its not very fun anyway in general, and even more awful to keep getting those. I know what you mean, people aren't always very sensitive. I have a friend who got pregnant just after my mc, and despite knowing I'd just just miscarried that week, sent me pics of all her positive tests, talked about her pregnancy non-stop whenever I saw her, messaged me several times a week to ask if I thought she could get away with a drink etc or to update me on her symptoms. And really I think all you want is a little breathing space. I was of course delighted for her, but a little sensitivity would have been massively appreciated

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've got an addiction 🙋🏼‍♀️ love seeing 2 lines. Doesn't matter what it is, pregnancy or OPK lol (OPK in my case really)

3-4 days sounds sensible to aim towards. You're probably a bit too early to see any lines (pot calling kettle black 😂 who am I to say this haha). I'm on day 30 now so that's my excuse.

Thanks, they've taken all the "fun" out of this to be honest. I am scared to get excited when I see a line, now I'm thinking here we go again... when am I going to start bleeding. Feel foolish for getting excited and it ending the same way. And nobody can do anything to help (doctor wise). Just say to keep trying. Whole experience has been really tough. I'm jealous of everyone around me who is pregnant, get upset if someone isn't being sensitive towards losses, if they act like pregnancy is the easiest thing ever. And with a bicornuate uterus I fear I'll have more complications further along, if I ever get there. It's all so complicated

@choccrumpet I'm really sad for all of your chemicals, must be so demoralising xxx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 13:16

@choccrumpet secret testing, sounds like we have an addiction 🤣🤣

If there's the hint of a line there I will, but given I couldn't see a thing in any light, I'm not sure anyone else could either !!

No idea. Has been a consistent 30 days for three months, and then 42 last month (late or no ovulation). But my O was a week early this month. Flo is still guessing period to be in 3-4 days, which would give me a 29 day cycle this month

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 13:07

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've tested in secret a lot... mostly because I can't stop and I know my partner will think I'm even crazier 😂 I get what you mean. Next time you test try taking a clearer picture so maybe I could try help see if there is a line 😉 definitely sense in that but try being a woman in our situation and all sense goes out the window 😅🤣 at least for me, I've got no patience for this.

Do you know when your period is due? My normal due date was yesterday, with late ovulation I would expect it tomorrow or Thursday but it could be anytime really. Last cycle was 37 days long (and I think must have been another chemical) so can't really go by that either 😓

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 12:57

@choccrumpet for me I'm worrying it does get to that stage sometimes doesn't it 🤣 I normally do tests privately in the bathroom, yesterday I brought it through to my partner and was getting him to examine it under the light / natural light to confirm there was nothing there 🤣 Some of the positives people post are always so faint I can't see and yet a positive, and so I wonder if I'm hasty in being like 'yeah negative' and chucking it out! Plus he wants to me to wait until after a late period to test for it to come up clearly. Do see a lot of sense in that, but I am very very impatient, and also getting quite worried now that something is up

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 12:45

I'm pretty sure if I tried hard enough I'd make lines appear out of thin air at this point 😂😂

It's just a waiting game now to test every morning! I'm feeling really tough today, not with it at all, not sure what's happening.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my chin gets bad every month, my skin has always been so good and mostly clear so it's been hard for me to deal with, I know what you mean ☹️ some skin products do help but nothing has helped long term. It's hormonal so not sure if anything will really.

Marvellouslymadmum · 06/04/2021 12:10

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it just sends the emotions on such a roller coaster doesn't it!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 11:40

@Marvellouslymadmum thanks for the chart! Appreciate. Yep feeling similar, its coming, but then nothing. V glad my skin is clearing up though, was not really liking that

Marvellouslymadmum · 06/04/2021 10:59

@choccrumpet I do see something on that one! It's hard to know what's going on when they're like that isn't it?!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I forgot to attach the chart 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don't know the length of mine either, it's somewhere between 9-17 days as it changes all the time! But majority are 13-15 days so I'm going with that for mine at a guess. I'm 11dpo today so Thursday - sat maybe 🤷🏼‍♀️ I keep feeling like af is on the way one min then not the next I'm so confused this month 😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 10:35

@choccrumpet 🤣🤣🤣

In all seriousness, I think I can see a faint line on that one. I've never used those ones before, but from your image I can see something

@Marvellouslymadmum how long do you have of your typical luteal phase left?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 10:32

@Marvellouslymadmum that's great your temp has gone back up! Woop!

I don't really know the length of my luteal phase now - it went to pot a bit after a mc in October and has been quite short since then (8-10 days and with pre period spotting). So 11 days is quite long for me at the moment. It feels exactly how I feel when my period is coming though right now

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 10:25

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I don't think you need to ask me if I'll keep testing, we all know the answer will always be yes 😂 until I get a definite negative or a clearer line. And yeah it super early for me but I'd rather know if I had another chemical than not.

You never know, next cycle taking it you might have no side effects at all. I haven't enjoyed preseed tbh, I didn't use the applicator which may have been a bad idea but i find it's so liquid that it doesn't really stay in, again could be because I didn't use the applicator and didn't go in deep enough.

Here's the one step. It's sooo faint, you may not see anything. I see a very faint line and I know it's there because I had negative one steps last week and there was nothing on them. But again it's hard to tell if it's got colour or not. And it could be faulty too.

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
Marvellouslymadmum · 06/04/2021 10:14

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it depends on the normal
Length of your Lp? My temps usually start to drop a couple of days before, I've attached last months so you can see, mine keeps going down over a few days then on af day returns to what it was in fp. You're not out yet though, my temp has gone back up this morning!

@choccrumpet I can't see the line either do you have a pic of the one steps? They may be easier to see!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 09:53

@choccrumpet tell me about it, hard to get the motivation up to be back at work today! Honestly I can never see the lines, and then a few people come on and say they can, so I think I have bad line eyes. Will you test again tomorrow? You're still so early in DPO terms!

I will take it again next month, higher dose I reckon, but the earlier stronger ovulation makes it worth it for me despite the side effects not being very fun (for me, some seem to have no side effects).... From looking at my chart I did have less EWCM this month, so I might try Preseed next month also - I think you've recommended but I've been loathe to try because it doesn't sound very sexy with the applicator and all! 🤣🤣🤣

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 09:20

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 appreciate the honesty and I don't mind, don't want to get my hopes up! I'm feeling really nauseous right now and having period like cramps since yesterday, on and off. First day back at work after the long weekend and am struggling to concentrate or want to work 😓

The soy has obviously worked which is amazing! It's still early to tell I guess but you know your body best. Are you going to continue taking the soy next cycle? I don't actually know if that's how it works. And hopefully it's only a matter of time now for you to get good news. Regulating your cycle is a step in the right direction! How are you feeling?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 09:00

@choccrumpet I don't think I can see it, but I am so bad at seeing lines and I think its probably better in person than on screen. How are you feeling?

I think I'm probably out this month. Partially the lowering temp, partially I am feeling well today and my skin is beginning to clear up, so can only think the progesterone is probably dropping. But to look on the positive, I have a luteal phase that's lasted at least 11 days and so that's at least a bonus.

choccrumpet · 06/04/2021 08:50

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm not great at temping so no idea 😓

I did a test this morning, again I swear I see a tiny line but can't tell if it's got colour in it and my partner still can't see it 🙄 one steps are showing a faint pink line too. Am still expecting to start period any day as this is how it normally goes with me..

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/04/2021 07:41

@Marvellouslymadmum can I ask your advice in temps as I’m pretty new to it. 11dpo and had a bit of a drop, when would you expect period to begin and ow far does it have to drop?

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
choccrumpet · 05/04/2021 15:25

My search history 🤦🏼‍♀️😂😅 I'm prone to confirmation bias too, looking for the answer I want to confirm my symptom rather than looking at it from a more neutral perspective.

I can't deal with the wait! Who came up with this 🤦🏼‍♀️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 05/04/2021 15:04

@choccrumpet and @Marvellouslymadmum I know so many curveballs! Would hate someone to see my search history at the moment 🙈😂

That’s so weird the soys been good for you, I honestly felt dreadful the 1st three days of taking, and awful now. From googling it’s meant to be good, but who knows if we’re not all just telling ourselves that 😂🤣😂

Marvellouslymadmum · 05/04/2021 13:52

@choccrumpet omg that would be amazing and incredibly funny! The most frustrating thing is the fact that everything can be a sign of af or pregnancy and as you don't tend to notice them when you're not ttc they suddenly all seem new when you are! I saw a funny one about symptom spotting and googling before, I bet if we looked at our internet history it would be like - itchy left toe, am I pregnant??? 😂

choccrumpet · 05/04/2021 13:32

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it is so hard 💔 try to enjoy whatever you're doing today, I know it's easier said than done. It is still early so you never know.

Your symptoms sound positive. I always get hormonal acne on my chin around this time, didn't think it had anything to do with progesterone before but it makes sense

@Marvellouslymadmum all our bodies do sadly. I won't forget a comment I saw somewhere, something about wishing that when we got pregnant our bodies would tell us and do something really obvious like our nipples turn purple and spin around as a way of announcing the pregnancy 😂 I wish that did happen

Marvellouslymadmum · 05/04/2021 13:26

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes it was a drop of .14 so could mean something or nothing 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had mega strong progesterone last month for the first time even I had acne and really sore boobs and wasn't taking the soy! This time it's not as bad with it 😂 my body loves to confuse me

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 05/04/2021 13:14

@choccrumpet it is the not knowing you’re right. I’m finding it really hard too, I shouldn’t have tested today and I did, felt a bit tearful with the negative, and now having to go hang out with others and be happy. Which will prob be a good distraction!!

@Marvellouslymadmum if it’s a slight drop you might well be fine!!

On the soy front, I can only think it has strengthened my hormones / progesterone. This is the 1st time I’ve had acne after ovulation, I’ve got stomach ache, back ache, fuzzy head slept 11 hours last night (normally get by on 7) so I will continue to take it. Plus the early ovulation, and the (so far) lengthened luteal phase.
