Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@Marvellouslymadmum oh wow did you discover that with temping?

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 23:11

@RoseGold24 I've just discovered that my Lp changes every month and ranges from 9-17 days! 🤦🏼‍♀️ it's no wonder I've not managed a sticky bfp yet!

@acaciabluebell ive taken 2-6 this month but I think I'll be trying 3-7 next month too

acaciabluebell · 07/04/2021 22:36

I've just finished my 5th day of SI. No side effects except a migraine on a few of the days and random ovary aches from time to time. I don't feel any signs of ovulation at all yet and I'm on CD9.

I started on CD5 because that's when I got my order in from Amazon. I think in the future I would try CD3-7.

RoseGold24 · 07/04/2021 22:08

Lol glad I'm not the only one taking so many supplements! Ok good idea I will pop by H&B then. Last month LP was 7 days, so disappointing but it was only the first month taking everything. But my boobs weren't sore at all and they normally are so painful ovulation til period. So must have changed something to do with progesterone!

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 22:03

@RoseGold24 lol I'm on about 16 supplements a day. There's not usually a very high amount of b6 or 12 in the complex unless they're higher dose. I usually get mine from Holland and Barratt and they're pretty good and knowing their stuff in there so you can ask for advice

RoseGold24 · 07/04/2021 21:50

@Marvellouslymadmum Thanks! I forgot to say I'm taking vitamin b complex so hopefully that covers them or should I add in extra? I'm rattling haha

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 21:13

@choccrumpet that's exactly it! Your gp though 😂 as if it's that easy to just not test!!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm no expert in bbt but I've been charting for a fair few months so may be able to help a bit. Sorry af showed up, it's so annoying when she tears her ugly face!!

Hi @RoseGold24 I've heard vit b6 & 12 are good for regulating your cycles too

RoseGold24 · 07/04/2021 19:01

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks! Second cycle properly trying but been keeping an eye on my cycle for months. LP is only 7-10 days so started seed cycling, agnus castus and evening primrose oil. Made no difference last month but we'll see how this month goes!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 18:55

@RoseGold24 its rubbish isn't it! Welcome. Fingers crossed for you, keep us updated on how you go

RoseGold24 · 07/04/2021 18:48

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind me joining! I've been lurking on this thread. I've taken soy isoflavones days 4-8 purely because I got them on CD4. Now in FW but not sure anything's changed tbh. Fingers crossed.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 sorry AF showed up, never feels good :(

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 18:33

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I completely relate to the longer it goes on the harder it gets. You have to let yourself grieve, be sad and upset and then pick yourself back up, you've got no other choice if you want to keep trying. Easier said than done I know. But you can do it and you will be okay and it will happen xx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 18:20

@choccrumpet thank you 😊 I know realistically that ovulating properly is only part of it, and you’re right there’s only a 20% chance even if sex is on the right days for any cycle. That’s why it feels silly to be upset! Just means I’ll have to try it again next month. And to take the positive, ovulation was earlier, shorter cycle, luteal phase is okay length, so maybe it’ll work in the coming months 🤞🤞🤞

Just a bit of a disappointment each month now the longer this goes on. And I know its not as long as for many xx

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 18:02

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 you should cry if you feel like it, there's nothing silly about this. It's difficult not to have hopes and expectations that it will help if all you're reading is loads of positive threads about it working for women first cycle they try! It's less likely someone will share their negative experience so then it might look like it's worked for everyone else but you which won't be the case at all. I guess that's how pregnancies are in general because people don't tend to share the crap stuff and only share the good news so going into it you think it'll happen first try.

Like you said earlier, even if you do everything right, the chances of it happening each cycle is about 10-20% which is stupidly low. I can't imagine how disappointing it is for you, you're allowed to be sad and upset if you want to. Look after yourself and try do something that might perk you up a bit. And thank you xx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 17:40

@choccrumpet thank you. I saw it when I went to loo, and felt a bit like crying, which is silly! Was super hopeful this cycle having actually ovulated properly and in good time and having had sex all of the fertile days, so I think it’s just disappointment. Will try again next cycle.

Good luck for your test tomorrow xx

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 17:26

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm so sorry 💔 look after yourself. Not everyone shares their negative stories about iso so I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone first try, but it's helped with your ovulation this cycle so hopefully the next one will be even better. Although I know this probably won't help much. We're here to chat if you need any support. xx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 16:32

Update, just had a tiny bit of pink tinged cm, so I think my period must be arriving in the next day or so :(

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 15:51

@choccrumpet I haven't any sensitive tests, I used my frer 2 days ago at 10dpo.

Looking at my 1st ever bbt chart, I'm getting a bit concerned about this cycle anyway. My temps from about 4dpo to 10 dpo were mostly sitting around 36.77, but the last two (11 and 12 dpo) have been 36.66. I mostly don't know how to read these charts yet, but it doesn't seem very positive

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 15:17

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'll just wait and hope the line progresses. It has been on one of the cheapies.. but can't get my hopes up, it's too difficult to ☹️

Did you do any more tests yourself or planning to?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 14:45

Ah sorry they were so rubbish @choccrumpet :(

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 12:46

@Marvellouslymadmum we all take what we think works for us. It's hard when you're trying for so long you want to try everything you can that might help. I totally get that and feel like that at times.

GP call wasn't very useful, he said to wait until next week and test again on Tuesday and to stop testing now (as if that's going to happen 😅). So basically keep waiting until next week and see if the line darkens and then go from there. As I thought they would say

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 12:07

@choccrumpet yes I'm the same, I've no intention of ever eating meat again and though I am Partial to a bit of chocolate or a pudding I don't eat them often, I just eat anything in moderation. The only reason I'm on all the extra vits is because it's taking so long. Most of them Are recommended in the book 'it starts with an egg' and all do different things for cycle or conceiving

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 11:46

@choccrumpet ahh see if your bloods are good anyway that's great! I haven't checked mine for a long while, and I'm lazy at taking too many things, so just went for one pill 😂 I know what you mean tho, I'm probably just getting very expensive urine!

Good luck for the Dr's

choccrumpet · 07/04/2021 10:53

@Marvellouslymadmum thanks! I think you hear all kinds of stories where veggie is good and veggie is bad, same with meat. I went veggie for my own reasons and don't really want to go back to eating meat unless I have to! Or want to which I don't.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I eat most of those things anyways, actually I did get basic bloods done in December and they were fine, although now thinking about it I can't remember what they were looking for. I might see if I can get an appointment for today. They'll likely either want me to have a darker line first or get me in for bloods.

I love chocolate! Don't over do it but am also not limiting myself if I ever want a bit more. I don't do well with diets so try eat things in healthy proportions.

So I'm only taking the individual vitamins right now because I want to finish the packs, I was on a multivitamin before and will go back on once I finish these. But I don't believe we need all the multivitamins and they're a bit of marketing, taking folic acid and vit d is enough if you've got no need to take others, no health issues etc. And my GP has confirmed the same. But I will switch to the multi because I can get them cheaper than all the individuals and it's one tablet

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/04/2021 10:50

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it is hard and I've had times when I feel it's never going to happen plus times when I'm feeling good about it! This is why I'm now doing and trying pretty much anything lol

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/04/2021 10:41

@Marvellouslymadmum three years is tough, I'm sorry.

@choccrumpet maybe a conception multivitamin if you're worried? My neighbour is a nutritionist, she said zinc is one most are deficient in (veggie or not) plus bvits, and vit D for fertility. Zinc esp important for men.
