Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed for you today!!

Hi @charlsains ! I don't think there's a recommended brand, to be honest I got one that would come before the start of my cycle, it's by Natures Aid. I didn't mind which one it was as long as it was simple to take and I didn't have to take lots of them to make up the dosage. Are you thinking of trying it again?

charlsains · 09/06/2021 23:54

Hi guys!! I have skimmed through the post, hope you don't mind me commenting! I did soy some years ago for 3 months and nothing. Wondering if to try different brand. Is there a brand better used or can anyone recommend? Thanks lovely's xxx

Marvellouslymadmum · 09/06/2021 22:45

@choccrumpet I've got to be able to laugh at this stage I'm in cycle approx 41 of ttc and cd33 with no ovulation though possibly today!

@Slk3558 that's a great line! So pleased for you

@waves1985 all good news then, let's hope they can help sort your hormones out!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 16:30

@choccrumpet I know I'm now feeling I have to go every week! I spoke to my partner and he said it's only six more sessions, so I guess it's not that bad when put like that, but it def does add up. Plus the time out of your work day etc

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 16:01

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh wow, it almost sounds like she's trying to make you feel guilty, I'd feel like I couldn't skip next weeks one after hearing her say that.. that's so strange. Also every week in 1st trimester is a lot, that's a lot of money and time. Surely that should be up to you whether you're able to commit or not. Maybe I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here..

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 15:47

@choccrumpet I'm not sure, she said she sees pregnant women every week in the 1st trimester to help make it successful, and she uses different points. I was going to skip next week as works getting busy, but she said it's really not advisable 🤷‍♀️

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 15:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ooh interesting I haven't tried them. Also interesting that she was doing that, was that to help with the spotting? Did she say anything else to you? How did you find the session?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 15:32

@waves1985 Zita West recommends inositol and sells it, she has some articles on it on her website. The It Starts With the Egg recommended inositol also. It was something I was thinking of trying next.

@choccrumpet castor oil packs were recommended for follicular phase only also for blood flow, I found them super relaxing. Nettle year sounds good!
On my acupuncture today, she was using different very painful points to reduce blood flow or redirect it

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 15:21

@waves1985 my acupuncturist recommended nettle tea to help encourage blood flow to uterus and has other health benefits I can't remember about in case you want to try something less disgusting. I like herbal teas so find it okay. Pregnacare vitamins have some inositol in it, assuming not as much if you're looking at taking it separately.

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 15:15

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Ah that's so good to hear! I think I've had 5-6 sessions of acupuncture and I've just started Chinese herbs as well as my acupuncture lady said that would accelerate things. They taste absolutely DISGUSTING.

@Marvellouslymadmum definitely, and they said still perfectly capable of conceiving, it might just take a little longer.

@choccrumpet so good to hear acupuncture has helped you! I really look forward to it every week. Definitely considering soy for my next cycle, and a friend of mine inositol which is meant to also be something like clomid, so just looking into both things to see what might be best for me!

@Slk3558 also added lots of supplements in, plus grapefruit juice, brazil nuts etc etc. Always so useful to hear what other people are taking. I'm about 1.5 months in from all the changes I've made and this cycle I've at least tried (even if not successfully) to ovulate on day 15 again which is so encouraging! Look at your amazing positive lines!! You must be feeling all over the place, which is so so understandable!

Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 15:10

Thank both for the reassurance 🙏

@choccrumpet I know it will happen for you. You’re so close! X

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 14:56

@Slk3558 yes that lines good!!! Woop 🙌

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 14:49

@Slk3558 your lines look great!! It's hard not to be scared after losses, try to ease into this pregnancy. It's very much real at this point 🤗 honestly I dream of seeing that one day, mine never got to this point of dark. You got this!! 💕

Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 14:37

I just did the FRER couldn’t control my urges lol. The line is matching the control now. I hope that’s good? I’m just terrified. 9,10,12,14 dpo xx

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
Slk3558 · 09/06/2021 14:35

@waves1985 i second what @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 said, completely normal for cycle to be up and down after chemical/mc. I didn’t try accapuncture but did try high strength vitamins (not just a multi vit but high strength individual ones C, D, E etc. and moderate excercise plus cut out all added sugar. The body definitely responds to those little changes you make. Good luck for this cycle hope you get your BFP.

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 14:28

Welcome @waves1985 👋🏼 I'm sorry to hear about your losses. It's great that you're having all of this looked into and hopefully you'll have more info in your next appointment.

Sounds like you've been trying for a similar amount of time to me, I stopped my pill end of July. Are you considering trying soy / other things we've mentioned? Also agree with @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 about acupuncture, I've been loving mine and feel like it's been helping me mentally and with my current cycle.

@Marvellouslymadmum that made me chuckle, you've been so active this month!! And agree with the variety, I personally love some of the meat substitutes!

Marvellouslymadmum · 09/06/2021 14:15

@waves1985 ahh I see, good that they're sending to you see the specialist. From what I know of fsh it is the less reliable version of amh (ovarian reserve test) but as long as you have some eggs left, which you obviously do, then natural pregnancy can happen just fine. It only really effects ivf unless you have 0 the progesterone and oestrogen could be all over the place due to cp though so hopefully they can sort that for you!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my dogs can't go out when it's too hot as one is a big fluffy husky and the other is a little mix breed but as her coat is mostly black she gets too hot as well! We have to walk them when it's cooler in early evening.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 13:31

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed for a dress size then 🤞! Side effect from this plan, we'll all be waifs 😂 My dog is sick of walks already on the days he's at home with us rather than daycare

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 09/06/2021 13:28

@waves1985 hello. Sorry re the MMC and chemical, and hormones all out since then. I sympathise, mine were all over the place after. Have you done acupuncture for long? I really credit the acupuncture, soy, and the vitamin plan for getting me back on track, but it took a good 2-3 months to get them more normal, and all in my cycles were weird for about six months

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 13:26

and PS so lovely to hear about everyone's happy news and big congratulations xxx

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 13:24

Hi @Marvellouslymadmum, thank you!! I'm enjoying hearing about your veggie journey Smile

They think my hormones might have been out before that and it's all sort of built up over time but hard to say I suppose. I'm waiting for an appointment with my GP's hormonal specialist on 28 June. They think I'm probably not ovulating every month and my acupuncturist has said the same as my FSH is high but progesterone / oestrogen are low. Fun times!

Marvellouslymadmum · 09/06/2021 13:18

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 if I haven't shrunk at least a dress size by the time this cycle is over I'll be cross 😂 not only have we been dtd all the time we've also joined the gym, taking the dogs on walks and bike rides too! I'm funny I've not been keen on humus that I've tried either but im not a fan of the chick pea or lentil 🙄 so going to have to try them all again lol

Thanks @Slk3558 im really hoping this is it!!

@hopingforababyh really glad everything's going well for you, hope your scan goes well.

@choccrumpet ive been a veggie since I was 15 so 27 years and I eat meat substitutes it gives more variety

Hi @waves1985 and welcome! Sorry to hear of your losses, they're so hard to deal with. What have the docs said about your levels on day 3 and day 21? Do they think it's to do with the cp?

waves1985 · 09/06/2021 13:06

Sorry for butting in and I hope you don't mind, but I've spent the last 2 weeks or so reading this thread (not the full 2 weeks you understand!) and wanted to say thank you so much for all the useful information! I really appreciate you all sharing your stories.

I'm TTC #1, cycle #3 after a chemical in March and an MMC in December, after having my coil out in August 2020. After the coil out and my miscarriage, my cycles went back to my normal, but after the chemical they've gone haywire, 41 days, 31 days and a 9 day luteal phase both times! So yes, I was very interested to hear about soy and the impact it can have on ovulation. I've also managed to get day 3 and day 21 blood tests and there's all sorts going on, lots of things too high and too low. Anyway 4DPO and keeping my expectation low!

Hope you are all doing OK xxx

choccrumpet · 09/06/2021 12:28

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 haha yes technically we're still talking about soy! I don't think it's bad you're not eating substitutes. I feel like long time real vegetarians look down upon substitutes so I feel like I'm cheating by eating them but I am getting whatever nutrients they contain so it's not a negative.

@Marvellouslymadmum agree about the coating on the Richmond ones! I used to buy them and then decided to try the other ones. I'm not surprised you're exhausted, definitely enough exercise for this month!

@Slk3558 we shall see! It's not unusual to have pms symptoms and think they're pregnancy related.. I would be upset if that is the case but we move on.

@hopingforababyh glad to hear you're doing okay 🤗 scan wise if it helps you there's nothing wrong with that. Hope it goes well!
