Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@Twiggywinkle13 I took soy 3-7 last month and 2-6 this month 🤞🏻🤞🏻 for everyone! I got a couple of mild headaches last month but nothing so far this month, now on cd11

Still a zero on my opk today, last month I had a flashy smiley cd11 peak on 12 so was expecting it a day or so earlier this month but nope! Will carry on and see what happens

@RoseGold24 yes definitely the down side ! Keep us posted how you go

RoseGold24 · 20/04/2021 08:36

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh that's fab! Bad news is a longer TWW😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 20/04/2021 08:31

@RoseGold24 or no spotting is hopefully something positive!!
I was very excited not to have days of spotting and a bit longer luteal phase last month

RoseGold24 · 20/04/2021 08:27

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 SmileYeah I guess the good news is my luteal phase might be longer which would be great, plus I haven't had any spotting which is unusual for me! So these are good going forward

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 20/04/2021 08:22

@Twiggywinkle13 good luck!

@RoseGold24 ah no! Hopefully it goes back up again 🤞 Otherwise that’ll make your luteal phase slightly longer though? I don’t know if you’re taking them together but I read apparently you should take either soy or Angus castus as they can cancel each other out a bit. It was just on a holistic midwife site, I don’t have a link to hand now

RoseGold24 · 20/04/2021 07:58

So I took soy isoflavones days 4-8. My ovulation day really varies and this month it was day 16 so can't say it was really brought forward. I'm now 9dpo. I have a really short luteal phase (normally 7-9 days) but have been seed cycling and taking agnus castus and EPO to try and lengthen it. I was feeling hopeful but my temp dropped this morning to cover line level. Desperately hoping I've just not taken it properly instead of a sign of AF 😫

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/04/2021 22:04

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 you’re definitely going to need some time off Grin May the force be with us! Think AF should leave tomorrow so I’ll definitely start OPK’s then so I don’t miss it. Fingers crossed!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/04/2021 22:00

@Twiggywinkle13 🤣 this month I'm just having sex every day from my period to make sure. And then straight after ovulation think we'll probably take a break for the rest of the month as will be exhausted 🙈

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/04/2021 21:15

Oh jeez, right I usually get a positive on day 16 or 17 so I guess I better just start with daily OPK’s as soon as AF goes. Don’t want to put in this effort and miss it all together!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/04/2021 21:11

@Twiggywinkle13 I had strong positives on my opk last month. I would say test a little earlier, as mine came on CD 12. Was previously CD 20ish, so I almost missed it!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/04/2021 21:08

@Twiggywinkle13 this is only my second month of taking it. I remember feeling pretty yucky the first month, and the first couple of days were the worst. I kept the dosage lower (100mg) for three days as was scared to increase it further until I started feeling better. I've upped the dose this month and I took 200mg on the last two days, and haven't had a single side effect. Last month I also had really tingling sore nipples, and swollen boobs - sadly my boobs have stayed the same this month 🤣

@choccrumpet good thanks! had a lovely weekend. How are you? CD12, no positive opk, still more EWCM than I've had previously. Definitely crediting the grapefruit juice for that!

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/04/2021 18:52

@choccrumpet I know. I was just thinking there why take it if it’s giving me a migraine then I thought, oh yes... now I remember why I’m doing this!! I’ll just have to put up with it. Luckily still working at home which makes it easier. I was just reading on an old thread that thanking soy can cause issues when taking ovulation tests - what should I be looking out for?? I thought there’s nothing I didn’t know about TTC but clearly I’m at the tip of the iceberg. X

choccrumpet · 19/04/2021 18:30

@Twiggywinkle13 do what you can to ease it off, if you can, fresh air, naps etc I used to get a few migraines too, they are awful. I was annoyed my headache wasted a weekend day, would rather get it in the middle of the week and take time off work if it came to it! The things we do 🙄 hopefully yours will ease off quickly!

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/04/2021 18:28

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 sorry mean to ask how many cycles in you are? X

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/04/2021 18:26

Thanks girls - I suspected it was that. Ok, I’m going to persevere and hope they settle as I’ve still got 3 more days to take them. I went for days 3-7. Just as well I started with 100mg! Fingers crossed for us all. I forgot just how debilitating migraines are. I take daily meds for them. Never mind - hoping it will all be worth it xx

choccrumpet · 19/04/2021 18:20

Hi @Twiggywinkle13 oh no that sounds horrible! I had headaches on days 8 & 9 that I suspect were to do with soy but nothing since and no amount of painkillers helped! They eventually went away after a nap & good night of sleep. If you're able to somewhat tolerate them you could see if it goes away in a day or 2?

I'm feeling okay, my cervix feels a tiny tiny bit open, not sure that really means anything though. And random cramp or 2 a day, not sure whether that's things moving along or something else entirely I'm super aware of & feel strongly this month. I do feel extra tired but again, could be to do with something else.

How are you @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/04/2021 18:15

@Twiggywinkle13 side effect, I had headaches at first, and so did others on another soy thread. But it got better day 3. And this cycle on the soy, no side effects at all

Twiggywinkle13 · 19/04/2021 18:07

Hi everyone, on day 2 of the soy, I have had a banging headache since I woke up this morning - I really hope it’s a coincidence and not a side effect as I don’t think I’d be able to continue with them if it’s a side effect.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/04/2021 08:36

@Twiggywinkle13 thanks for updating! Hopefully it does something positive for you.

Anyone else have any updates on how its going for them?

Twiggywinkle13 · 18/04/2021 22:21

Evening all - just thought I’d update you. Took the first of the tablets today - going for days 3-7, will keep you updated. Usually get a positive opk on day 15 or 16 x

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/04/2021 13:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 @choccrumpet I got a bit fat O again on the opk today, higher temp and no cm but I've not had much the last few months which is very frustrating, been taking epo but that doesn't seem to have helped yet, may try the grapefruit juice! Started dtd anyway as last month I only got one high day before peak and don't want to get caught out

choccrumpet · 18/04/2021 11:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ooh that's interesting. I normally have ewcm for a few days before I get my peak so you might get yours in a few days, that's positive though!

I've got watery CM but it is slightly peaky so I'm hoping that means I will see ewcm shortly 🤞🏼 I would normally be seeing highs on the CB sticks right now, I've got 5 of them left from previous months so am saving to use them in a few days 😆

No headache today and gassiness stopped as soon as I stopped taking soy 🥳

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/04/2021 11:20

@choccrumpet I had headaches the 1st time I took soy, none this time around fortunately. I’m using the clear blue digital pink ones which just have a 0 or a smiley. Nothing today, but I’ve been drinking grapefruit juice and had a lot of ewcm this morning - had hardly any last month so don’t know what’s going on 🤷‍♀️ Seems weird when I have no positive opk

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/04/2021 22:02

@choccrumpet hopefully! I'm using the clearblue digital advance opk I have some strip tests too but don't get very good readings on them
