Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@Riverskye that’s frustrating, do you usually have a longer luteal phase?

@Twiggywinkle13 hopefully so 🤞!

Twiggywinkle13 · 26/04/2021 22:21

Evening all, just checking in - hope everyone is doing ok. I’m on CD 11 today, I think there’s a chance of a positive Opk in the next couple of days - which will be amazing if it happens as I usually don’t get it until CD15/16. Will keep you all updated. Need to get going with the BD as well! Keeping my fingers tightly crossed, as always! X

Riverskye · 26/04/2021 20:49

Currently on CD62, supposedly 16dpo... bbt still above coverline. Did a test a couple of days ago and it was BFN, just sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for anything to happen. I'm still quite crampy so just anticipating AF really.

choccrumpet · 26/04/2021 14:07

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ah I get you, I'm sure it'll be a welcome break either way!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 13:14

@choccrumpet sorry I should clarify, a month off trying and temping and peeing on things, but a break of only a week! Couldn't get that long off work sadly, and saving it up for when we can go away again :)

choccrumpet · 26/04/2021 12:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 a months break sounds amazing! I think I've obsessed a bit too much during lockdown too but at the same time I'm glad I've had this time to deal with this stuff in private and not having to see many people, it might have been quite difficult otherwise.

I don't know how to do this so it doesn't feel as much of a chore, any way we try we're still having more sex than we normally would, it still has to be somewhat timed and it's still going to be emotionally up and down. I can't figure out another way 🙈

@IntergalacticP that's amazing, fingers crossed for you!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 11:46

@IntergalacticP yes that's crazily long! I get frustrated enough waiting around, I can't imagine waiting months. I'm so so happy it looks to have worked.

I just read back through your messages, and ovulation would be 24-36 hours after your strongest opk, so actually you might be less DPO than you think? Hence the faint line? I'm so hopeful for you tomorrow! We need some good news on this thread

IntergalacticP · 26/04/2021 11:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 no you read that right!! You can see why I was starting to crack up a bit! Previous cycle was 115days, one before that 75 so seemed to be getting worse.

IntergalacticP · 26/04/2021 11:39

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 just have to keep my fingers crossed that I haven't willed a line into existence!! Just thought I would post because I tried to find posts of other people taking it late on in a long cycle and couldn't find anything.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 11:38

@IntergalacticP wait, I thought that was a typo about the CD 120 to 125 - you took it that far in and you think it forced ovulation then? Or have I misunderstood? That's brilliant if so, I didn't think it would be so strong

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 11:36

@IntergalacticP wow that sounds so positive!! Keep us posted. That's awesome.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 11:35

@choccrumpet sounds like you might need a break, and I'm really glad you're taking a bit of holiday at the moment to look after yourself. Wouldn't hurt to stop soy and supplements tracking etc, and restart if you fancy it later on.

I've booked a few days away in the UK and plan a months break in June, want to make it fun for me and my boyfriend - nice walks, meals, bottles of wine etc. I think it being lockdown has made me more obsessive, and I'm aware I'm being a drag on him. Foreplay at the moment seems to revolve around waving an OPK in his face from 8dpo 🙈 plus the beep of my thermometer wakes him up at 6.15 every morning

IntergalacticP · 26/04/2021 11:32

Sorry should have said, got the most positive opk I have ever had in my life on day 3 of taking soy and I'm counting ovulation from then. I guess the soy may have just pushed my levels high enough for ovulation to finally happen? Not sure.

IntergalacticP · 26/04/2021 11:31

Ive been following along! I took soy this cycle for the first time. Been ttc since January 2020 and getting nowhere. Fairly confident the issue is with me since I have ridiculously long cycles- I'm not convinced I ovulate on my own very often if at all.

I took soy cycle days 120-125 because I thought it might at least do enough to kick start my period a couple of weeks after.

I'm now 12dpo and have got the faintest of faint lines on an internet cheapie. DH can't see it and is blaming the fact I took it and then went in the shower and got it all steamy! He might be right but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

choccrumpet · 26/04/2021 11:12

@Marvellouslymadmum it definitely feels like a circle going round and round!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 you might be right, my mental health feels out of whack, I'm not feeling good, I'm taking time off work to look after myself as I'm feeling quite low, it may well be that my hormones are all over the place too. I feel the same about my cycle too so I think it will be a welcomed relief to not have to think about it. If you're able to track and stay healthy mentally then that's great. I don't think I can.

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/04/2021 10:22

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 we did yes, I'm just not hopeful as I know his swimmers aren't the strongest lol

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 10:07

@choccrumpet it’s tough to say, I wonder if your cycles are a bit mixed as you’ve had a number of chemicals. Your hormones must constantly be up and down. Maybe a break for a month or so would be good, to regroup and let them settle. Focus on having fun, enjoying yourself, and having a few drinks now things are open. It does all get a bit all consuming, and wishing away parts of our life so we can get to ovulation, then get to end of cycle etc.... or maybe that’s just me! I might need a break from temping as it’s making me wake up earlier than the alarm worried I’ve missed it! 😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/04/2021 10:01

Ah shame@Marvellouslymadmum. Understand the irrational anger also as it’s how I’d feel too, but it’s tough when someone gets sick. Plus you did manage it in the fertile window 😊

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/04/2021 09:38

@choccrumpet I think we all go through ups and downs and get to points where it's mentally very difficult and then get past it again for a bit it's like a circle going round and around!

I may just leave it this month now as I think passed ov day anyway 😑

choccrumpet · 26/04/2021 09:22

Thank you both @Marvellouslymadmum @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know I haven't been trying as long as you have but it is so tough mentally to go through it cycle by cycle. I'm not even sure if I'll ovulate this time, but I'll keep thinking what to do with the soy, if I should try it again next cycle. For me a longer cycle is tougher mentally so it feels crap but I'm trying to relax about it and just let it be and get through it.

@Marvellouslymadmum that is frustrating! We experience the same every now and again (not being able to bd) and at this point I've just stopped fighting it and trying to believe that if it's meant to be it'll happen anyways and not get myself frustrated as it doesn't help. Good luck asking him that 🤣 tbh the idea of that sometimes does feel easier than bding.

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/04/2021 00:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've no idea I'll let you know though!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/04/2021 22:14

@Marvellouslymadmum the things we’re willing to consider 😂 honestly I’m considering it just to get a break in the fertile window. Hope you manage to get it done whichever way 😆 But yeah if he’s feeling poorly it’s probably not something he’ll be too keen for.

Marvellouslymadmum · 25/04/2021 22:04

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've no idea if he'd be 'up' for it 😂 I may suggest it tomorrow if we don't get anywhere 🙊

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/04/2021 21:40

@acaciabluebell I agree I reckon three cycles is enough to see if it’s working, reckon I’ll do the same.

@TheHotelCalifornia it only moved mine forward by 6ish days so it might not make too much of a big difference but should hopefully bring it forward.

@choccrumpet I’m really sorry, hope you’re okay 💙 MarvellouslyMadMum is right, we all have wobbles, and feel crappy sometimes. There’s so much waiting around with trying to get pregnant, so so much time to get stressed 😩 I’ve not heard about lengthening cycle, but tbh we are trying to figure it out on this thread with a few of us trying it because a lot of the info available online is anecdotal. Hopefully you’ll ovulate in the next day or two. And hopefully this cycle is successful! But absolutely step back and take a month or two without and without tracking everything to get back into a positive headspace. Otherwise it’s so tough x

@Marvellouslymadmum nooo what terrible timing! I’m honestly not joking, could you use a syringe if the sex is too painful? I probably would rather than waste a month 😂 that’s proving he’s well enough to do that

Marvellouslymadmum · 25/04/2021 21:06

@choccrumpet sorry you're feeling low, we all have times where it all gets a bit much I know I have! Sometimes it's good to take a step back and relax for a bit.

I've just been really cross the last few days as it's been my fw peak yesterday so ov today/tomorrow but we only dtd Thursday cos oh ibs has flared up and he's in pain, I know it's not his fault but I'm irrationally cross with him! We tried today but had to stop as it hurt too much and now I'm cross and we are both frustrated 😂 going to try again tonight 🤞🏻
