Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

First cycle using SI. I'm now 12dpo had really strong ovulation symptoms day 17/18 and symptoms in the last week have been really heavy boobs, had a super emotional day (cried at work very embarrassing and unlike me) I want to test because we're going away today for a staycation but after so many cycles and 2 chemical I'm scared to test 😭 usually I can't stopped myself POAS as my cycles are so irregular and long I convince myself I'm going to get my BFP every month

gimmeavino · 28/05/2021 21:54

Hi al, Jumping in here as trying SI this cycle, on CD1 now after a 38 day cycle where I couldn't pick up ovulation...never really had any EWCM, cycles all over the shop so going to see how I get on. Gonna try 120mg cd 2-6

choccrumpet · 28/05/2021 21:46

I'm cd15 today and getting lots of ewcm, OPKs are still low but I think my cervix is starting to open so i might actually ovulate earlier this month 🤞🏼apps are predicting CD18 but that's not based on much. So potentially soy and acupuncture are helping to straighten out my cycle

@Marvellouslymadmum yay for ovulation!! Day 21 isn't too bad although I empathise with the frustration that it's later than normal, hopefully you'll see the temp rise now 🤞🏼

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/05/2021 09:23

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks! If the gp doesn't want any tests I may give it a go

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 28/05/2021 09:17

@Marvellouslymadmum yep I'm running low on vitamins again also 😬 I'll have a think on it also, have another week to decide. Good luck for this weekend 😁

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/05/2021 09:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it was definitely good timing! I'm really not sure what to do next month, I need to get some more ubiquinol and other vits, I may do soy again next month depending what the doc decides what to test next time 😂 I'm going to look into the progesence too

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 28/05/2021 09:02

@Marvellouslymadmum yay! Perfect timing tho this month for you and your partner 🤞
Hmm that's strange also. If this isn't the month for you, will you take soy again next month? I was thinking about getting my day 3 and day 21 tests next month so avoiding soy, but having seen the positives on here this week plus the two on another thread, I'm wondering about postponing the tests and doing another month. Maybe along with the progessence

Marvellouslymadmum · 28/05/2021 08:56

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 well I got a peak this morning, a proper one this time and a tiny bit of ewcm and slight temp dip from yesterday so hopefully it'll rise proper this time and I'll be ovulating today or tomorrow!! Cd21 so way later than the last two months on the soy 🙄🤔

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 20:01

@Marvellouslymadmum hope it's a quick ovulation this time 🤞!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 20:00

@Slk3558 don't worry I have hope I'm pregnant every month 😂 Saw my acupuncturist today and she's taking credit for the lack of symptoms. At least you know what to look for for you rather than wasting time analysing each twinge etc!

I normally just follow my chart last few months, rather than test, but I'm out this weekend so will try to test early to see if I can drink. How about you, are you an early tester?

Marvellouslymadmum · 27/05/2021 18:42

@katewitch we are trying anyway lol

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my temp went up to 36.59 this morning and Lh is on the rise again so I'm guessing my body is having a second go at ovulation and it'll be a long month 🙄

@TheHotelCalifornia yay congratulations!! I do love hearing about the bfp gives me a little hope.

@NorthernLass213 amazing! So pleased for you, this is definitely hopeful! Ive never heard of the progressence, I have heard that wild yams are really good for fertility though

🤞🏻 for sticky beans for you both

I've also seen lots of positives with the baby aspirin too!

@Slk3558 great news! And definitely possible

Slk3558 · 27/05/2021 15:36

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 regarding your lack of pms symptoms, not trying to get your hopes up but I would say that’s a good sign! I had zero symptoms when I got my BFPs except a bit of light cramping after implantation ...on the other hand when I didn’t get a BFP I had pms symptoms (sore boobs, back ache etc) ! Do you normally wait for AF or do a sneaky frer before?

Applecrumble24 · 27/05/2021 12:16

Oh @TheHotelCalifornia congratulations! I remember you from one of the other threads, I had a mmc around the same time. So happy for you Smile

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 12:12

@choccrumpet oh I agree, crazy expensive!!

choccrumpet · 27/05/2021 11:52

I had an impulsive moment and got a progessence from eBay! It was definitely more expensive than I expected but it mentions lots of general benefits for women so hopefully worth it 🤞🏼 and eBay seemed to have the best price when I looked around without getting a young living membership.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 11:38

Thanks @NorthernLass213 I'll look that one up also. It makes sense to me to boost estrogen and boost progesterone. And I have worried my progesterone could be a little low

choccrumpet · 27/05/2021 11:16

@TheHotelCalifornia @NorthernLass213 OMG congratulations!!! It's so encouraging to hear about your happy news, I hope you're both feeling okay 🤗

@Slk3558 I picked up on the late ovulation too 🤞🏼 I'm cd14 and have ewcm today but it may go and come back again so not getting my hopes up for an earlier ovulation just yet.

In terms of dtd we are taking a different approach this cycle, starting it later this time as we normally get worn out pretty quickly. So if my ewcm stays we'll be starting any day now, my cervix is still closed so will keep an eye on that too. I'm trying not to get too excited about this cycle but I'm feeling mostly positive it's hard not to.

I tried aspirin twice before and it didn't help me but I have seen so many positives of other ladies on it. I might ask my acupuncturist about it next time as she thinks I might have stickier blood so am wondering whether I should try it again.
@Slk3558 official recommendation for aspirin is 150mg, I tried both 75 and 150, it's up to you which one you take of course but even the higher dose shouldn't hurt

@NorthernLass213 progessence sounds super interesting! I'm going to look that up as if nothing else it sounds relaxing

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 11:11

@Slk3558 just 75mg!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’m still using the oil - it’s such small amounts I’m not worried about the vitex. I’ve read a few reports that vitex is safe in pregnancy just not encouraged, and sometimes recommended for people with multiple miscarriages. I started using it when it got it in the mail - just have been 3-4 dpo? I managed to convinced my GP to test my progesterone tomorrow so we will see if it’s high enough!

Slk3558 · 27/05/2021 11:07

@NorthernLass213 it’s really encouraging seeing that you got your BFP with a 7/8 day leutal phase! You’ve proved it can definitely happen. I think you made good changes to your cycle as well with the soy, progesence oil and baby asprin! How many mg of asprin you taking? 75mg or 150mg? X

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:56

@NorthernLass213 thank you. Do you just take it until you get a positive? And just for the second half of the cycle?

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:49

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it’s an essential oil blend and I actually got it off eBay but you can buy it through a young living member. It’s essentially wild yam extract (natural progesterone) with other bits like vitex and peppermint extract. I just do a few drops on my wrist twice a day. It could be doing nothing but I find it calming so that helps too! I felt the same way as the aspirin, it can’t hurt and I have read a lot of reviews of people getting BFP first month using it so gave it a go. (Haha now reading this I’m seeing how desperate I am - trying everything!) :)

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:45

@Slk3558 yeah I have read that it can help with plumping up the lining? There is so much info out there but because my luteal phase is 7-8 days usually I thought it was worth a shot!

I did have heavy spotting/bleeding 7-12 dpo so thought I was out for sure, but must have been implantation bleeding! (Now I’m just addicted to testing to check the line progression which I’m sure I need to stop!)

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:43

@NorthernLass213 can you tell me some more about the progessence and where you got it? I think that might be of some use for me also

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:42

Congrats @TheHotelCalifornia!! Definitely understand your hesitation to get too excited, but at this moment you are 100% pregnant! So excited for you! :)

I should also mention we only DTD the day of my positive opk - literally 1 time. The past few months we have done every other day so maybe DH needed a break?

I did 80mg of soy each day for days 3-7 at night, along with b6, prenatal, vit d, vit c and the aspirin. I also started using the young living progessence plus because I suspected low progesterone - but that could totally be mental!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:42

@Slk3558 yay it finally came that's good news. The 2ww is a bit of a rest
