Is anyone currently or about to start IVF treatment at James Cook, Middlesbrough? We’ve just had our top of the waiting list appointment for Feb which was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and is now end of March. 😩 Time is not on my side so feeling really anxious

I’m at James Cook too btw

JuJu234 · 28/10/2021 05:36

Hi.
We have had our top of waiting list appointment early August. I rang yesterday and they said we are near the top now. She said I will get a phone call soon to answer questions and discuss treatment. Can anyone tell me what happens after that? Do you get weighed again before the treatment starts? I don’t feel like things are explained enough. Feel anxious and in the dark. Any info would be great.

Hi, Oh that’s good! The hardest part of IVF is definitely all the waiting. I’ve had my first round and managed to get a couple in the freezer. They discovered I have a fibroid so that needs dealing with first. 😩 then a 3 month wait until transfer. They like to wait 3 months between transfers and 6 months between IVF cycles. I didn’t realise what a long and drawn out process this is! How are you feeling about your appointment? @Jamielee19901 X

@Belle0508, I'm so sorry to hear it didn't take and I hope you and partner are doing okay. I'm sorry I haven't replied before now. We have now had our appointment through for our top of the waiting list appt. It was initally for end of Sept. but has been delayed by 2 weeks now, not too sure why, but am not too concerned at the moment. Take care xx

Hi @Jamielee19901,

Our appointments got moved a lot due to covid. We were due our top of the waiting list appointment June last year. We hade it split in two parts in January and February due again due to Covid and we had our first cycle in April. The transfer didn't work this time but we lucky and managed to have some embryos frozen. As @LS14 said its really helpful to take things a step at a time and keep focused in the positives.

Once you get to the treatment stage it all seems to go very quickly but it does feel overwhelming at times and lonely as people don't always understand if they haven't been through this. I've found this group a great support and nurses are fantastic.

I hope all goes well for you and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. X

Pippya · 02/06/2021 21:31

Thank you and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want to chat @Jamielee19901 x

Thanks guys! @Pippya I hope everything goes well for you and I'm sorry to hear you only get 1 free round, fingers crossed that's all you'll need. Felt pretty isolated after being told we would need ivf, my friends either have had kids during in lockdown or don't want them, have found this site super useful in terms of info/support. Best of luck to you x

LS14 · 02/06/2021 19:42

Good luck to you too @Pippya
Sorry to hear you only get one free round, it seems such a postcode lottery. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that one is all you need xx

LS14 · 02/06/2021 19:28

Thank you. I found writing down my questions helps, they usually answer them as they talk everything through but it reminds me to ask if I miss an answer or they don’t mention something I wanted to know. Time passes quicker than you think, although it doesn’t feel like it at the time! There is a lot of waiting in IVF. Best of luck to you x

Hi @Jamielee19901

We had our top of the waiting list appointment at the end of March and we have a phone appointment next week where they will give us a date to start. She said we will be looking at August/September so just over a year since we were referred. We found out that we are only entitled to 1 free round because of where we live which was a bit of a shock. I just assumed everyone gets 3 free rounds. I totally agree @LS14 it’s comforting to know that we are not alone and ivf is something millions of people go through every day. Good luck girls! Keep me updated x

Hi 👋 thanks for that. I know what you mean. We went in with so many questions to ask and went completely blank. Just glad that things are moving now and hoping we don't have too much of a wait. Best of luck to you on your journey! I hope everything goes well for you.

LS14 · 02/06/2021 18:28

Hi @Jamielee19901
It may be slightly different but we were referred from another unit in November (had all the tests there but they don’t offer NHS IVF) with the plan in place. We had our top of the list appointment at the start of February and we are just waiting to start our first round hopefully within the next week, all being well.
There is a lot to take in but I’ve found people on this site to be really supportive. The nurses will also answer any queries you have too, they’re great. I must admit I didn’t realise how many people are affected by infertility until we found ourselves in this situation, but take it a step at a time and focus on the positives x

Jamielee19901 · 01/06/2021 06:03

Hi, hope you don't mind me jumping on this post. We have been put on top of wait list after 2nd consult on 20th May. How long was it for you to get your next appointment following your second consult? Feel so overwhelmed by it all at the moment. Thank you.

LS14 · 14/04/2021 19:27

Hi @Pippya, no need to apologise. Hope things are going well for you. We had our top of the list appointment at the start of feb and were contacted early March to provisionally book dates. Need to call them with May cycle to organise the next information appointment and then hopefully will start in June x

Pippya · 14/04/2021 17:29

Sorry @LS14 I completely forgot to reply! I will on short protocol. How long did you have to wait after your top of the list appointment until someone contacted you?

Hope you’re getting on ok @Belle0508

@Pippya thanks. do you know which protocol you’re going to be on? I’ll be on short protocol. x

Pippya · 26/03/2021 18:55

Fantastic news! Things seem to be moving pretty quickly then. You can both fill me in on how everything goes! Smile Wishing you both lots of luck! X

Hi @Pippya, I’m good thanks, hope you are too. We have now had our plan agreed and signed the paperwork, I have to phone with my May cycle and then they will give me an appointment for us both to attend and have everything explained re injections etc. I’ve been told that appointment lasts an hour or so, which I’m pleased to know in advance so I can be prepared for it. Then all being well we will start treatment in June. I’m pleased to say time seems to be passing quickly (without wanting to wish time away!). It is an overwhelming process isn’t it, there’s a lot to take in at each stage. I’m just pleased to be moving forward.

@Belle0508 wishing you lots of luck. I hope it all goes well for you. Keep us updated x

Belle0508 · 26/03/2021 18:37

@Pippya they also showed me how to do the Buserilin injection while I was there.

Belle0508 · 26/03/2021 18:36

@Pippya I wasn't sure exactly what the steps were either. I don't really know of anyone who has been through IVF at least in recent years and I think I get quite anxious I'm going to forget something or get something wrong. Once they said it was going ahead, I had to ring on the first day of my cycle and they booked me in for a blood test that week then I had to ring the same day for results and they booked me in for my appointment to go through my plan they gave me a bag with all the injections and things and I had to get a prescription for buserilin. (I'm on long protocol and I have regular periods so no other medication was needed at this point) I just have to start my injections on day 21 of my cycle and ring when my next period starts.

Pippya · 26/03/2021 18:06

Oh wow that’s exciting! You will have to let me know how you get on. I felt totally overwhelmed by the top of the waiting list appointment so god knows what I’ll be like when I start treatment! She didn’t really tell me what to expect next she just said a nurse will be ringing me then I guess they show me how to do injections etc?
