Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

Thanks for checking in @41FerrisWheels , sorry to hear of your BFN, although that is early so still time to change. I tested 5 days after period due date, and was a BFN, still no period, although I feel crampy. I will go to my GP if still no sign early next week.

41FerrisWheels · 13/05/2021 06:19

@Jigglykween how are you feeling today? Did you take a test? Hope you’re ok xx

I’ve had a BFN yesterday and today, AF due Monday which is the same day we head to the Lakes for a few days, so although not practical it will be a distraction at least...xxx

Hope you’re all doing ok x

@Lastyearttc Oh good luck for this cycle then, it sounds like you don’t get a lot of opportunity to DTD if you’re not living with your partner so make hay whilst the sun shines as they say! Me and my DH started taking the DHA (oh so many acronyms!) after I read a Zita West book (I’m a total sucker for recommendations!) but now I just take it, I think it’s just fancy Omega3 but the blurb is “ Vital DHA contains Omega 3 essential fatty acids (EFA’s), plus a small amount of Zinc. It has been designed to help protect both partners’ DNA from oxidative damage during preconception as well as to support normal fertility and healthy sperm production.” Bet you wish you’d never asked!! I’ve nearly run out now and not going to buy anymore..

Lastyearttc · 10/05/2021 21:37

@41FerrisWheels I postponed the hycosy... just couldn’t waste a cycle at this age! Dtd instead although looks like I’m ovulating today so 2 days before ovulation. Still in with a chance I’ve got to hope! Looks like you dtd loads so fingers crossed for you! What’s DHA btw? I take a prenatal multi vit and coq10 oh and evening primrose oil before ovulation!

@Jigglykween good luck!🤞

birdbybird · 10/05/2021 13:32

Good luck @Jigglykween
Cd 13 here and have a solid smile on CB finally!

Jem1979 · 10/05/2021 12:34

@Jigglykween hello, agree that is exciting. I would just go for it! And if positive start taking folic acid now and I'm sure you would be grand, there must be tons of people in the same boat! Good luck...

@Twothirtyam I also started using OPK's when started trying for 2nd and found it easier. I guess though at the end of the day it's about DTD regularly to try and catch!

@41FerrisWheels good luck to you too! Agree it can be very hard to get in the when you know you have to!!

@Jigglykween oh that's exciting! Can totally understand your nervousness as you had put ttc to the back of your mind and probably got your head around not having any more, so it will be a bit of shock, but please don't worry about stopping take the fc...just start taking it again now if you get a BFP - good luck! xxxxxx

Jigglykween · 10/05/2021 12:00

Hi everyone, I used to be on the TTC over 35, but at the start of the year I turned 40, we hadn't really stopped "trying" but sort of stopped thinking anything would happen. 40, endometriosis history so thought my chances were very slim anyway so were not taking any precautions, and I'm sorry to say, had stopped the folic acid, pre natal vitamins etc. But here I am 3 days late, my period are always very regular. I have a cheapie PT upstairs and I'm half afraid to take it.
We already have 2 bigger kids, 14 and 10 so felt blessed and of the opinion what happens will happen, so no pressure. As I said we just had given up. Why am I so nervous.......

Hi @Lastyearttc sorry I'm just catching up with messages now, I'm also 42 and have a DS aged 4, I had my 4th consecutive mc in December and been trying since August 2017 - I had a HyCoSy too when we were thinking it was a fertility issue rather than a recurring mc issue, I did get more peace of mind for having it done and there never seemed to be a right time as I think I put it off twice - did you decide to go for it? It is a tough decision, can totally empathise but as @Jem1979 whatever your gut instinct says is a good indicator, good luck!

Hello @Twothirtyam - since I started doing SMEP and using the ovulation sticks (smiley face one's) I have been a lot more relaxed about when to DTD as you're following a plan, and I have got pregnant before using that method (I've tried most methods Grin). So might be worth trying that and then you can relax a bit knowing you're following a plan, might help give you some control over it?

I am testing on Wednesday, well that's with the 6 days early result kit as I can never wait until the day AF is actually due, which this time will be 17th May...I actually skipped the last day of the SMEP method as I got a flashy smiley face on CD9 (like you @babybird), and a static smiley face on CD 10 so DTD Day 8, Day 10,11 & 12 and then neither of us were remotely in the mood on Day 14 and as it had been 5 days since my +OPK I thought it was safe to miss it - however, DTD has not been great this month, I just haven't been in the right head space and as you all know, DTD is not fun when it becomes so perfunctory and mechanical! Confused

Good luck to all this cycle, wherever you are! I am only having two more cycles after this one and then we are not ttc anymore (although I know for a fact I will just stop taking my DHA and CoQ1 but continue to take my folic acid and Vit D...just in case Wink)

Jem1979 · 08/05/2021 19:26

@Lastyearttc Hello, oh it's a tough decision. I think I would abstain and have the procedure done on Monday. As it could improve your chances and it's already been 9 months without conceiving. But I know how hard that will feel as every month of trying is so important when time isn't on our side. What is your gut instinct telling you to do? I'm a big believer in that x

Lastyearttc · 08/05/2021 18:02

Hi all, just wondering what would any of you do?

I'm 42, ttc since last mc in August, so 10th cycle this time round.
I'm cd 12 no positive opk yet, usually ovulate between cd 12-14.

My partner is coming over tonight as we don't live together... however I have a HyCoSy booked on Monday which you have to abstain for, which flushes my tubes out and potentially improving my chances of conceiving...
So, do I dtd tonight and postpone the HyCoSy or miss a cycle of ttc?

Twothirtyam · 07/05/2021 13:11

Does anyone else dread ovulation arriving? I just can’t relax with worrying that we DTD at the right time. It’s literally constantly on my mind! Doesn’t help that I can ovulate any time between day 15 and day 26 or something so it’s a huge window and I don’t want to peak too soon so that he’s had enough by the time I ovulate!

Cashewcookie · 07/05/2021 09:33

@gizmo167 so good to hear you doing well. I think we are both 43. No luck my end so far, but I’m a little more relaxed now.
Hope your bean continues to thrive.

Jem1979 · 06/05/2021 22:12

Good signs @gizmo167 hopefully the sickness continues!

@birdbybird @Lastyearttc welcome to the chat, new ladies always welcome. I've just had a mc 4 weeks ago at 8 weeks, took me 9 months to conceive number 2. I am still bfeeding also so lots of similarities. I am going to follow the SMEP and try not get too obsessed. Easier said than done...

OP posts:
GingerFox2021 · 06/05/2021 21:10

Hi @birdbybird I think on CD9 I had already a static smile but it was the first month I tried ovulation sticks so no idea what’s going on! I hear many women ovulate early.

Lastyearttc · 06/05/2021 19:39

Hi all
I hope it's ok to join you all. I'm 42, 43 in August, have a DD aged 5. My last mc was last August so have been trying for 9 cycles to catch.

Just had my bloods done and all ok except a low AMH reserve of 3. Booked in for a HyCoSy on Monday but I'm probably ovulating this weekend so not sure I want to skip a cycle trying (you have to abstain for HyCoSy so needs to be just after your period). Oh... added challenge is that I don't live with my partner so dtd isn't easy!

X

birdbybird · 06/05/2021 19:34

Hi ladies, first post here.
Am 40 and ttc #2 and also breastfeeding my 16 month old and managed to get two back to back BFPs in December and January. Neither stuck and lost the second at 8 weeks.
I was also worried about the link between breastfeeding and mc but my consultant says there is no issue.
I took a month off after the last MC as per doctors advice and this is the first proper cycle.
CD 9 and already have a flashy smile on clear blue. Am worried about ovulating this early. Confused

GingerFox2021 · 06/05/2021 16:55

Congratulations @gizmo167 !!! Wish you all the best!

gizmo167 · 06/05/2021 16:36

Hi @41FerrisWheels, aw thanks for thinking of me lovely. I'm doing ok, 6+3 today, havent had any spotting or cramping to be concerned about and the nausea has really set in now, was sick yesterday too so I'm taking it as a good sign, even though I know its very early days and I hate being sick lol!

Oh, advice? Dont give up! Simple as! I'm probably one of the older ones in the group and am aware if this little bean doesnt stick then I wont be trying again! I dont take any fancy supplements, just the usual Folic Acid with Vit D and just try and bd as much as possible! I dont temp as I found it made me more stressful so I was just keeping all crossed that I was getting the right signals at OV with CM etc! I'm really shocked I got my BFP so quickly after the last mc as with the first I had nothing for a year so just dont give up!

41FerrisWheels · 04/05/2021 16:20

Hi @gizmo167 how are you feeling? Have you got any top tips for the rest of us here as I am open to any advice!! I am on my second month of SMEP so shall see, I was convinced I was pregnant last month, even my son snuggled up to me and said "Mummy, there's a baby in your tummy, your tummy is going to be so big in the summer!" Now that got my heart racing but...nope! AF arrived and it turns out my son is no mystic Meg!
Anyway, just wondered what supplements you were taking or if you were doing SMEP too? Hope you are feeling good!

Also shout out to everyone else that's ttc on here - the struggle is real Grin but we can do it! xxx

Twothirtyam · 24/04/2021 09:14

@41FerrisWheels it’s so tricky! I’d feel happier with Pfeizer or moderna but realise I don’t get a choice. AF has just arrived today so feel like if I book it in now there’s less chance of it affecting ovulation but then I’m really busy with work so could do without feeling poorly for the next couple of weeks! Argh dilemma!

41FerrisWheels · 24/04/2021 08:13

I was wondering what to do for the best too...I haven’t been offered mine yet but it’s only a matter of time obviously...it’s a little bit of fear of the unknown isn’t it...and we don’t really know what the effect on fertility/very early pregnancy would be? Confused

Twothirtyam · 24/04/2021 07:59

My partner suggested waiting 6 months after the vaccine and then resuming TTC like I’ve got all the time in the world!!!
